Defective diabetes insulin delivery pod

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

The Pod malfunctioned and did not deploy properly during the start sequence, thus the insulin in the pod was not able to be injected into my body.

User's recommendation: This happens but not often. Just remove the pod and attach a new pod. The contact Omnipod and they will replace the faulty insulin pod.

They won’t replace a faulty pod anymore. My daughter tried to activate a new pod that failed while priming it.

Spoke to someone today and said that we need to purchase a replacement since she threw the faulty one out. This was at 10pm on a Saturday before bed. We have only called 3 times in 6 years for a replacement pod and now suddenly they can’t replace unless I have proof the pod failed!

Are you kidding me? Time for them to care about their patients before people start getting smart and got to a company who actually cares.

Lack of product availability

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Product can't be obtained via Tricare for Life / Express Scripts Home delivery. Omnipod told me it was due to federal regulations with the product but that can't be true since it is available via Tricare Active Duty and Medicare Part D. It seems that Tricare for life is locked out by a Wallgreens contract which results in about $400/year more to the retired Military.

Concerns with OMNI POD (not with my supplier, Diabetes Express)I've been having problems with a few POD's for one lot. Called in for help following a 7 + 6 day stretch in the hospital with high blood sugars (+50) . When I called OmniPod I received: (2) - 10 ring calls with no answering machine message system (1) - answering machine response (1) - call answered. but no voice. Just what sounded like pots and pans being moved around a kitchen with faint voices in Spanish or Mexican. (1) - call answered that offered help from an accented voice that helped, but was not followed through with my request following instruction. This may be as much my fault. Finally I waited 12 days to receive an order of 16 POD's, but only received 2 in the order.

They finally called me. They have no intentions of reimbursing me for lost insulin!

Bastards!

I think they started out as a "Snake Oil Sales Tent" at the state fair! Bye Bye you scamming crooks!

The Omnipod system requires filling the pod with "very expensive insulin".The Pods "are not" perfect and there are times when insertion fails from the PDM. Then there are times where the Pods don't stick to the insertion site. Once the pod is filled and primed if any of the aforementioned occurs, the insulin is captivated and cannot be recovered therefore it is lost! I recently lost 2 pods to failure and have been waiting for reimbursement (or pittance) they claim they will pay. Numerous calls to Insulet and they tell me someone ( a supervisor) will call me back. They never do! I lost another pod that was 80% full and all they did was send me another Pod. I lost another Pod that didn't stick this past Monday, The replacement Pod is on the way, but I'm waiting for a call from a Customer Service Supervisor, that will "Never Happen"! To date, I'm out of 1 full vial of insulin @ a cost of $283.00. I think they think I'm a charity, not a customer? I refuse to donate my insulin to the trash bin when the Pods fail! What is so difficult to respond to a customer that sends numerous emails and numerous calls? That's "Poor Customer Service" and bad for business!

Pros:
  • Tubeless
  • Lower cost vs other therapies
  • Ease of insertion
Cons:
  • Pods fall off when body perspires
  • Pdm needs work
  • Pdm times out too quickly during pod insertion

Preferred solution: Full refund

User's recommendation: Explore other therapies, like Medtronic where the insulin can be recovered.

Used Omni pods several years back and loved them! Subsequently, pods were made smaller and when they were, insertion mechanism did not seem as forcible which resulted in shallower insertion depth...this in turn led to insulin pooling under skin, skin cracking and resultant infections....has this issue been resolved? Also, did you finally get approval for and are pods and dexcom cgm communicating together? Thank you. Dianna

Terrible Refund Policy

I purchased an ominipod pump pr my mother on October 2nd, 2020. Due to some insurance issues, I called to return the pump on October 5th, 2020.

I was told that someone would call me within 5-7 business days. NO one called. I called again on October 12th, 2020. I was told that the return kit would be mailed to me on October 15th,2020.

No return kit came. I called again on October 19th, 2020 and I was told that no paper work was initiated for the request. Omnipod has a 45-day return policy from the date the item was shipped.

I believe that they are trying to run into the 45 days so that I will not be refunded. Terrible customer support.

Yes well first of all I would not buy and spend the amount of money they want for that that’s ridiculous if they want people to try it out a lot of people they need to come way down on their price second of all they have a gluing problem that’s burning everybody they should’ve tested it before they sent it out, I would not waste my time with this product they have not developed enough enough to help you and on the three products to spend almost $1900 that’s ridiculous, John

Suggestion of my doctor

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I went to my doctor In endocrinology she has been doing this for 40 years and I use a different monitoring system that she gave me to start with it has worked perfectly for me no problems whatsoever it only monitors you have to give your own insulin but when I asked about the Omnipod she says dont even think about it I have had free samples given to me &;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; others they have complain since day one she even put one on herself to try it out and she says it is so bad anybody that buys into it is making a big mistake and should not spend their money at all and this is a renowned doctor in medicine on this subject of diabetes that is what she has been doing her whole life dont get con for this company that doesnt even call you back these are people that are just taking advantage of you through their ploys of not asking questions not sending you to the right people just doing whatever to waste time so that they can get the money because thats whats really happening there should be a huge class action lawsuit against them immediately and for you to get all your money back not just $50 $90 but all of it before its too late Iam thankful that she explained it to me before I tried it out I will never try it.

I've gotten worse on omnipod

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
It was a good idea, just poorly executed. The insulet corp needs to consult with more diabetics, type 1 diabetic before putting this crap on the market. There's always something - the adhesive never sticks, the insulin drips so slowly, doesn't hold enough insulin, the annoying beeps and this product has been around forever and the technology hasn't changed. Also, very few insurance companies work with insulet. I'm switching to something else in a few months and couldn't be happier to do so.

Preferred solution: Walking away...I dont want anyone else to get stuck with this crap for 5 years like I did

Allergic Reaction

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Wow! I thought it was just me having this issue. I was completely loving the Omnipod, but things changed. I began to notice itching after a day and burning with pain. I was placing the pod on my stomach and stopped because of the bruising/burning that the pod was causing. I then went to my back side and that wasnt any better. I then switched back and forth with the arms. I havent gotten to the point where I cannot take it anymore. I am going to try some of the suggestions posted here. I dont want to go back to injections :-(
