Old American County Mutual
If you have a claim or a claim against their insured, just go ahead and file a complaint with your states insurance regulatory board. They have no working phone numbers and persistently refuse to pay claims.
Their business model seems to be to insure high risk customers and then refuse to pay claims. They seem to insure a lot of unlicensed, undocumented drivers. http://www.tdi.texas.gov/general/contactus.html There are lot of post online stating that they do not pay claims, both of their customers and against their insured Here in Harris County, and Houston, undocumented drivers are not required to register their vehicles or have drivers licenses.
They just need a Consular ID and liability insurance. This is where these flakey insurance companies make their money.
Old American County Mutual - Customer Care Review
Rude, unreliable, unethical, unprofessional, and not knowledgeable about there job. I got hung up on, I get transferred at least three times when I call.
My truck had a small hinder damage and made my door warp, they put I got tboned and won't change it. I also got yelled at by one of the personnel working there. They are not trustworthy and you are never assured of what's going to happen, you have to keep calling and bugging them to get things done. I am also active military and they would not give me a storage discount.
I had orders to go somewhere for 7 months and I couldn't take my truck with me. Every other insurance my friends had gave some kind of discount for storing your vehicle because you're in military orders.
I've seen a lot of bad reviews and thought maybe they were biased until I had to deal with them myself. Save your time and go somewhere else.

I DO NOT recommend this company. If you go to Amtex Insurance you proably have Old American County Mutual.
It took Danielle Sanchez almost 4 weeks for them to give me an estimate after i called dozens of time a day. I finally had to threaten them with a lawyer to get my car fix.
HORRIBLE COMPANY
I have never dealt with a company so horrid in my life. They promised week after week that I was going to get a check and just kept getting transferred and NO ONE returns their calls EVER!!!!
I now know why they have one of the worst insurance ratings in TX. NEVER USE THEM. I called them almost everyday for three weeks and it is 8 weeks into the fiasco and they still have not taken the steps to follow up on my claim.
They are very quick to send a vehicle to the total loss department because then they do not have to provide a rental. Several inspectors said it should be taken care of in about two weeks.
Hit by drunk driver, American County Mutual Refuses to pay
My car was rear-ended (slammed into by an American County Mutual policy holder) The investigating officer said it was quite obvious that the driver was drunk (citation pending blood-work)
I'm quite fortunate that I wasn't killed. Was life-flighted from the scene of the accident. My medical bills are already near $40,000 not even counting the value of my car which is totaled.
As soon as I received insurance information I started doing research on this company I've never heard of. They have the worst reputation in the state.
It took me nearly two weeks to get someone on the phone and when I finally did, they claimed that they had conveniently dropped the other driver's policy a week before the accident. (they have a history of conveniently doing this before accidents) The policy holder (who is going though a divorce) said she believed her husband had paid the bill on time and wasn't given proper notice of cancellation.
I live out in the country and have no money to replace my car... so I cant get around. My back is swollen and I really need an mri and some specialist treatment. However, with my medical bills already nearing $40,000 I cant justify an additional expense. I cant work and have child support to pay... but this company is refusing to pay a dime.
Do your research... this company should be shut down by the government.
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution
Insurance Expert Talks
Still fighting with this horrible excuse for an insurance company
My neighbor backed into my parked car at the first of August. (Live in a quadplex house and share a back parking area) She fully admitted she was in a hurry when she hit my car and gave me her insurance information.
As soon as I saw who it was...I immediately said "oh ***!" to myself. She had Old American County Mutual. I've seen their offices around town and they advertise..."No License- No Problem". Really...people can go get auto insurance without a Driver License??
I have been a police officer for 11 years now and have seen and dealt with a lot of insurance companies over the years (working vehicle crashes and testifying in civil trials) and know this one to be one of the bottom of the bottom feeders. I called to file a claim and was on hold forever (bad sign from the git go). When I finally got in touch with a live human being, he began to interrogate me and treated me as if I were the one who caused this accident...even after several times me telling him my car was legally parked and unattended. I was told an investigator would come out to my house in about 5 business days.
I immediately went and got three estimates on my own as soon as I hung up. All the estimates were within $50 of each other...$1500. All three repair shops said "Oh Lord...we HATE dealing with Old American County". A few days after filing the claim, I received a letter in the mail from the insurance company.
The letter told me it would probably be faster and easier to just file a claim on my insurance and they would reimburse my insurance company. You kidding me?!?! I'm not going to have my rates go up for someone else's *** behavior. On top of having to shell out my deductible out of my own pocket!
About a week and a half later this guy finally shows up to take pictures and do their own estimate. After an hour and a half, he finally provides with me with a $750 estimate (which of course I laughed at) and showed him the estimates I had gotten. He said they use aftermarket and sometimes USED parts to do repairs and gave me a list of "recommended" repair shops (none of which I had ever heard of...probably some shade tree body shops). I said no thanks and said I would take my car to one of the places I had received an estimate from (which by Texas law I can take it to any repair shop I want to).
I called the insurance company again to set up a rental car before I took my car in for repairs (which I was told would be about a week to repair). Again, on hold forever before a live human picked up. I was told that they do not pay for rental car, but they could reimburse me after I submitted all my paperwork with them...and in their words..."for consideration" - translation - "we probably won't pay your rental car claim". I called and called and called and attempted to speak with the claims adjuster who was assigned to my claim.
Every time I called, had to again wait and wait and wait for a human to pick up. Apparently she never works, because I never could get a hold of her. I left dozens of voice mails for her (and even her supervisor and supervisor's supervisor) to call me back...never once received a call back. Finally after a few weeks, I bit the bullet and took my car in for repair.
I took some vacation days so I wouldn't have to rent a car and be out any of my own money. During all of this, I did some homework on Diminished Values after wrecks. I found out my car was now worth $2900 less on trade in value due to this accident. Because a CarFax will show front end collision.
I contacted them again and of course received the major run around on this matter. But finally I was told to submit any paperwork I had and an investigator had to come back out to my house to take post repair photos. Waited and waited for a few weeks and this guy finally shows up. He takes his pictures and says give it a few days.
Several weeks later I'm still in dark. I call every couple of days and play the waiting game on hold and when someone does answer, it is "your claim is in the hands of one of our estimaters". It's now November and I'm sure if and when I receive any money from them it will be a huge slap in the face and be almost laughable. I do feel sorry for people who actually have this insurance company or have had someone with this insurance company cause an accident that involved actual major damage.
One thing I can say, and tell other people is, cut rate insurance may be cheap to get...but will ultimately end up costing you much much more in the long run (if you actually need them). If you are in an accident and the other people have Old American County Mutual...just go ahead and get you a decent lawyer!
