25 years of service and I get breast cancer. I get it in remission but complications (neuropathy) left me unable to drive.
OPERS gives you the run-around and denies you disability. They even had a doctor that I have never seen say that I am able to work... I drove bus for a living so If I can still work I dare them to put their family members in my bus while I drive it with NO FEELING in my FEET!!!...
waist of time and money. "drain the swamp".
- Do not pay
Reissue of check
I dont even want to give OPERS one star. I got a letter in the mail from OPERS saying a check had not been cashed and to call them for reissue.
Two months later, 15 calls to OPERS and I still have no check.
TERRIBLE SERVICE. Still not sure how I am going to get my check unless I drive 5 hours round trip to Columbus OH.
Preferred solution: Check which was never received.
Delaying payment of MY retirement funds. No answers to their policies, even by managers.
For everyone who has been through the circular phone calls that just gives OPERS the opportunity to hold onto YOUR retirement money longer I have asked OPERS customer service employees and an OPERS manager these direct questions but couldn't answer over the phone:
What exactly is the procedure when an employee retires.
How long can they wait until they notify VOYA of your last date of service? (I had to do it for them during a conference call as OPERS refuses to give the direct phone number to VOYA)
How long can they wait until they notify VOYA of your last date of distribution?
(No answer so far)
How long can they wait until they correct their "mistake" of sending a PLOP check via snail mail instead of sending it via the contract signed application by direct deposit.
(15 to 20 business days...I can only hope)
Why OPERS can't send me their actual procedures over the phone or by email. I will get my questions answered via my account on the OPERS website.
See the trend?

OPERS keeps your pension funds
I have been trying to get my OPERS pension funds for over 6 weeks! I want it rolled into a different retirement fund where I can control my own money.
OPERS keeps making excuses as to why they have not done so. First they kept several thousand dollars from my self-directed plan (I was not 'vested'). Now they are keeping my Traditional Plan money stating they have not received my 'application' that was mailed ten days ago (from Cincinnati to Columbus would take no more than 2 days).
You have to fill out an application, it can only be mailed (not emailed), and be notarized (I have done all this). These state pension plans are absolutely unacceptable by making you jump through hoops and not transferring funds that is YOUR money!
