Beware Ocean Reef Resorts - Destin, FL
Just recently had our first and last experience with Ocean Reef. We stayed in unit 1402 at Gulfside at Hidden Dunes. They had the carpet deep-cleaned our the day of our arrival. We arrived two hours after check-in and the carpet was SOAKED. I didn't realize it was wet until I stepped onto the tile floor in the living room and nearly busted my butt! The unit seemed dirty. There was sand on the floor under the dining table and couches. I think the cleaning staff got a little lazy. They even left linens in the dryer. The dishes looked dirty and there was dish detergent hardened in the dishwasher. We had to wash all of the dishes before we used them and we have never had to do that before. The TV in the master bedroom didn't work, either. They sent someone to fix it the next day, but honestly, these things should be checked when units are cleaned.
Here's the killer: A few days into our vacation, Ocean Reef called and asked if we would be willing to check-out early because the owner of the unit wanted to come stay. Seriously? It was outrageous. Our vacation was paid for and they called to ask if we would leave early? The appropriate thing to do in this situation would have been to tell the owner that his unit was rented and therefor unavailable. Ocean Reef never should have called us. Tacky and unprofessional.
After we got home I wrote a negative review on their Facebook page. A few days later, I noticed they had deleted my comment and banned me from the page. They didn't address the issue or even offer an apology.
Be aware that they apparently only want positive reviews to be visible to the public. They'll get rid of the negative ones ASAP.
