Verified ReviewerSloppy and deficient work
I cant begin to tell you the nightmare I experienced by hiring Nova One Construction to remodel a bathroom. Everything that could have been done wrong was.
The owner of this business is Steve Bonder, who is a highly unethical and untrustworthy person. He and his workers have zero competence in bathroom remodeling. The first lie told to me was that Nova One is located in Mahwah, NJ. Nova One Construction lists its business address at 115 Franklin Turnpike, but when you visit that location you see that it a strip mall with no business named Nova One Construction.
It is against the law to misrepresent your business location. Next, Nova Ones Limited Liability Company status was suspended in New Jersey while it performed work on my bathroom and therefore it was not permitted by law to perform any work in New Jersey. Next, the contract presented to me was filled with consumer fraud violations including using a fake business address, no proper three day right of rescission, no telephone number for the NJ Dept. of Community Affairs, no start and end date and other violations.
Nova one performed electrical work that required that required a licensed NJ electrician, but the work was done by an inexperienced and unlicensed person. As a result, there are code violations that will cost money to correct. It also presents a potentially dangerous situation when non-electricians install new wiring. Also, permits were not obtained from the town prior to the electrical work being done which is highly illegal.
Same thing happened with plumbing work. A licensed plumber was required, but Nova One had an inexperienced person do the work. Permits were also not obtained from the town for the plumbing work. Highly illegal and will cost me money to correct.
The tile work was horrible. Tiles are crooked and there is excessive lippage everywhere. Walls are out of square, out of plum and very crooked. This made it impossible to install the vanity correctly.
I hired a construction expert who said the entire bathroom must be ripped out and replaced to correct all the deficiencies. The floor tile was installed with very inconsistent tile spacing which is an eyesore. The cement board installed in the shower walls did not have the seams taped and sealed as required by the cement board manufacturer. Not all of the shower walls have cement board behind them ordinary sheetrock is behind some tiles which will definitely cause problems in the near future.
Moisture resistant sheetrock was not used in any part of the bathroom. The towel holders installed on the tile walls were installed with flimsy plastic ribbed sheetrock anchors which is stupid and caused one of the towel holders to fall off the wall. The wood trim and moldings installed by Nova One are a joke. The fit and finish are horrific.
It looks like a blind man did the work. Even the bathroom door does not close correctly. They installed new baseboard water heater covers that were not attached properly and were bent in some areas. The old rotted plywood subfloor was not replaced and new tile was installed over it.
This is just plain stupid. The incompetence of Nova Ones workers is astonishing. Another illegal act I discovered was that Steve Bonder insisted checks be made payable to himself instead of Nova One Construction, LLC.
Then the checks were not deposited into a business account instead they were cashed. This is likely part of a tax fraud scheme.
