Defective Stamped Concrete Patio

We did file a claim in small claims court since the company refused to negotiate or mediate. The burden of proof was on us and proving that the concrete was incorrectly installed without spending thousands more dollars to have a concrete test performed was cost prohibitive.

Their defense was we did not maitain the concrete properly, i.e sealing every year (industry standards don\'t recomend yearly) and we didn\'t maintain our water properly. Come on folks I owned a pool previously and the conrete looked like the day it was poured 15 years later.

Concrete should not deteriorate and the entire surface flake off in less than 3 years. The company does not stand by their work.

We contracted with Norco Fiberglass Pools of Mechanicsville, MD to have a pool and stamped concrete patio installed. 2 years later the entire patio surface began to spall and flake off in large and small chips.

Pool company owner Kenneth Norleen admitted upon inspection he had never seen anything like it. Worked with him to come to an agreeement for repairs from May - August and was stalled continuously. At the end of the summer we got a legal agreement from Norco stating we "the wronged consumer" would pay $2700 to an independent contractor for repairs and he would bear no further responsibiltiy. we the consumer should not be liable for defective work and the repair estimates from legitimate concrete overlay contractors ranged from $7K to $5.4K.

Can't imagine what I was going to get and supposed to pay $2700 for but he did agree to open and close pool for one year ($600 value). Based on all research the concrete was finished improperly or not cured properly prior to sealing which caused the scaling. Ended up paying $5400 to correct the problem by having the entire concrete surface removed and resurfaced which took approximately one month to complete. Filed complaints with BBB, Maryland Attorney General, and Dept of Labor and Licensing.

Norco refused to negotiate so all the cases were closed with no resolution.

Hopefully we can prevail in small claims court. Do not do business with this company they do not stand by their work.

Yes, we did have our day in Court but the defendents unturthfully claimed that it was improper maintenace that concrete should be sealed every year which is incorrect they and industry standards recommend every several years. Ask any physical engineer.

And by the way pool owners make sure you have your water tested every two weeks and recorded becuase pool water can damage concrete if the ph is incorrect. What other BS can they come up with?

How would you like to spend over $7K orginally and another $6K to repair it in three years. Take my work not their lawyer.

The Complainants had their day in court. They failed to prove that the seal was installed incorrectly and failed to prove that they did not keep proper maintenance during the 3 years after the pool was installed. The Court dismissed the suit.
