I'm just trying to buy something and it keeps getting kicked back. It's not my credit card, it's on Nestor Liquor's side.

I've ordered from them before without a glitch, but this time it's not working.

Probably because a coupon has been added, and they don't want to honor it. That's my guess.

I had thought that I was looking at a real good deal when I made the mistake of ordering from these folks. It appeared to be a great deal at first, 750 ml Organic Vodka, normally $26.99 a bottle , on sale for $13 a bottle.

Great, I thought, perfect for 2 matching gifts for Christmas. Somehow, what seemed to be a perfect, in reality, wasnt . If this isnt a clear illustration of let the buyer beware I dont know what would be. First, the 2 $13 bottles, which I added as being $26, somehow became $33.98, on to this was added SHIPPING of $36.81, with an additional insurance(?) charge on shipping of $1.50, so in the end , these two bottles resulted in a charge of $72.29!!!

Imagine my shock at this, but being Christmas, and just wanting to finish with my gifts, I let this go, even though I was not happy and thought the shipping excessive for just 2 fifths of vodka. Next, I get a notice, that , sorry, they only have one bottle, and I would receive a refund of $22.80. This got my attention immediately, because it blew my gift idea, and somehow, and maybe they learned different mathematics than I did, IF I am getting only one , shouldnt my refund be HALF of the total, more like $36 instead? I contacted them, expressing my anger at the fact that they did not inform me FIRST about the change of my order, and just how did they think I would feel about paying $50 for a $13 ( on sale) bottle of vodka.

Their explanation? I was told, they are in California, and , in not so many words, thats just how it is. I basically said, refund at least half of the amount charged or I would do just as I am doing now, posting this for others to see, indicated that I would dispute the charges, and report them to the BBB. Instead of issuing the refund they should have, they instead stopped & recalled the bottle shipped, and did issue a full refund.

Funny, while this was transpiring, I checked, and found that you could ship a case of wine from California for almost the same price as I was charged for these two bottles! $13 a bottle seemed to be too good to be true, and it was. The only reason I was ordering on-line was due to foot surgery and the fact that I cannot drive at this time due to this. I was stunned stupid when I saw that $26 worth of vodka would cost $72.29 , or I should have never ordered this at all, and thats on me.

Just as a note, ordered a gift basket containing 2 bottles of California wine? Guess what? Only shipping charge added was $6. As I stated this is a clear case of caveat emptor, and sometimes a sale really isnt .

I will never be this complacent again, and certainly never order from any company charging such inexplicable shipping charges. As it stands, I will go to my local liquor store, and buy top shelf vodka and not spend $72. Sometimes a bargain is not really a bargain after all, and a company shouldnt charge your credit card a full price until the order is confirmed & shipped. In this case it appeared that there was no problem with stock, no indication, on ordering , that there was a shortage in inventory.

I suppose , since Im just a hick from Ohio, what do I know about sophisticated California shipping prices? They sure were quick to scrap my whole order and issue the refund, to get rid of me quickly, rather than make it right and adjust the $22.80 refund amount. Do the math, if shipping on 2 bottles is $36.81, then , logically, the refund should have been ( in my mind) $ 22 ( actual cost of the $13 bottle in the end, dont know how that was calculated?) plus $18.40 of the Shipping charges, with a refund total at least half the invoice total of $72.29, No matter how you do this math, it just dont add up. Ultimately, when is a $13 bottle not a bargain?

When it ends up as a $50 pig in a poke purchase! Never again, folks, never again.

Pros:
  • Selection
  • Issued a full refund quickly on complaint
Cons:
  • Excessive shipping charges
  • Failure to notify you of shortages before charging the full price

Preferred solution: Nothing. They issued a full refund, just wanted to let others know to be wary of sales and bargains that are not when shipping erases that savings all together.

User's recommendation: Watch out for sales & bargains that are erased by shipping and handling charges that are way over what they should be.
