My experience with NeilMed Sinus Spray

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Updated by user Mar 26, 2021

NeilMed have denied that their Sinus Rinse could have any bad effect on me. I now know that I reacted to the Sodium Chloride as that was confirmed recently when I was prescribed Potassium Chloride pills.

On the second day of taking only one half of the prescribed dose my throat started swelling up again. I have told NeilMed this but they just suggested that I see a doctor. There is no point in pursuing this any further as they do not want to know their Sinus Rinse could cause any ill effects at all.

I guess for most people this is true, I just happen to be one of the unfortunate people who do have bad reactions to many medicines. Thank you for your continued interest.....Doris Hooton

I was prescribed NeilMed last year in July because I seemed to have a post nasal drip. After three days I had to stop because my throat was sore and swollen and I couldnt swallow food.

I lived on ensure for the next three days for sustenance. My throat eventually eased somewhat and I was able to eat food again. Now after nearly 8 months my throat has still not healed properly. Im left with a croaky voice, and I cannot carry a tune, (I used to sing reasonably well).

I definitely speak quieter now and when I have to repeat myself, which is quite often, its an effort and makes my throat sore. My ENT doctor says it couldnt have happened because of NeilMed but when I researched the side effects I realized that NeilMed was definitely the cause. I probably had a reaction to sodium Cloride but up till then I hadnt known that I suffered a reaction to that. At the time I used NeilMed nothing else had changed.

I hadnt had and didnt have a cold or anything else that could account for these problems. But now it seems that Im left with permanent problems.

You asked me to keep you posted - here's the result

Hi there: I did as you suggested and notified NeilMed of the problems I have had after using their Sinus Rinse.

Someone by the name of Roy called me today and insisted that the NeilMed couldnt cause all these problems as it was only salt. I told him that I had eventually googled the side effects of Sodium Chloride, which is an ingredient in NeilMed and found out that my problems could indeed, and probably, were caused by it.

He was very defensive and wants me to get some advice from a different doctor to see if there is any infection in my throat. My ENT doctor has already said that my problem wouldnt be caused by NeilMed as it is only salt, but it obviously was. The ENT guy also told me that there was nothing wrong with my vocal chords but there obviously is as my voice is constantly croaky now. It never was before.

I have, previously, taught Tai Chi classes for years and certainly could not teach at present with my voice as it is.

You asked me to let you know how I fared. Not very well as you can see.

I will be seeing my family doctor shortly but doubt if he will be happy referring me to another ENT doctor as I have been with Dr. Mendelsohn for years now.

My reaction to Sodium Chloride in NeilMed

NeilMed have denied the possibility of any reaction to Sodium Chloride in NeilMed but since then I have taken Potassium Chloride, prescribed by a doctor, I ony took half the dose precribed but had the start of the same reaction . I stopped taking it at once.

It's impossible to get to see a doctor in a reasonable time after starting the reaction so I don't know what I can do.

I definitely do have a reaction and I still have some of the problems remaining which the first reaction caused. I still maintain that I had that reaction and will tell anyone who's interested about it.

Rebate scam

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Over the past year I have sent in twice for a rebate. I’ve never received anything back.

I’ve sent a complaint email to the company but never received a response. I suspect they fraudulently offer a free bottle to get marketing information.

I will never buy this company product again. And I’m advising all my friends and colleagues at our retirement home association to do the same.

Do not fret, their nasal spray dispenser does not work, no hole in nozzle. I have two unusable bottles. They do not care a twit.

NeilMed rebates are a rip off!

NeilMed has been offering lots of rebates and coupons. Well do not be fooled.

They really don't intend to pay you any rebate money. April 5 I submitted for a full rebate and as of June 13 I still don't have. Each time I call I have been told a new reason - and I have called 3 times. The last time I was told that they don't have enough checks and were waiting for them!

BUT the person assured me (Dominique at customer service 877-477-****) that it was really mailed and I would have it before or no later than June 12. I give up NeilMed. Not calling again. You win.

You got me to buy one more naso spray that I didn't need at the time. But now you have lost me as a customer forever. Hope it was what you wanted. I am fighting tonsil cancer so this helped but money is a real issue too.

Good luck!

May others figure you out! Not fair.

Ive sent in several rebates, never had a problem

I second the sentiment that neilmed rebates are a ripoff! We sent in over 200 (rebate at $3 each) and rec'd a check for $45 only. Not exactly what we expected
