Skeptic turned customer
I was so skeptical when I received a call from them. It seemed like a scam and these reviews did not help.
I had my son call them who is a lawyer and confirm they were not out to scam me.
Good company. Helped me out.
Supposedly entitled to more cash from reverse mortgage-NO!
Thank you for this review. I was cold-called today and have received numerous letters from various places regarding the same scam..
I may be a senior lol but I am surely not stupid, so I told the person on the phone that I would do my research and get back to her if I was interested. First thing I had asked her was "ok, what's this going to cost me?" and of course, she said it would cost me nothing-that's a flat out lie lol I hope she calls me back so I can tell her she's a liar ;) Or maybe I will call her back just so I can let her know we aren't all that simple minded.
Great Experience with Nationwide Equities
I couldn't say enough great things about Nationwide Equities! They helped my husband and I with our first mortgage after we went through a NIGHTMARE with another mortgage company in the area.
I wish I found them first! Everyone was so nice and attentive. I was able to speak to someone right away when I had a question AND the turn around time was so fast.
They got the loan done in less than a month when the other mortgage company I used (I won't say their name) had my file for FIVE MONTHS!
If you are looking for a mortgage done the right way - GO TO NATIONWIDE EQUITIES!! THANK YOU!!!

Most helpful out of all reverse companies
I spoke with about four different mortgage lenders when I tried to get my reverse mortgage and many of them were not genuine at all and tried to pressure me into getting the mortgage. Chris at Nationwide was the only one who took the time to explain everything to me and was very patient.
I can't attest to the other people's comments on this website, but it's not nice to bash an entire company for maybe one bad person.
Chris was fantastic and I feel like I've made a friend in addition to a loan officer. I recommended Nationwide to some of my friends and they have had positive experiences with the company and Chris as well.

Very deceptive and proven scam worthy
We were cold called, we are medically handicapped, elderly people. Who desperately needed the suggested amount to repair our roof before and after the hurricane.
Months passed and re-requesting s.s. award letters and that had been supplied already again. After nearly 4 months and numerous advised handymen and contractors being told would come and never have. We decided to announce termination of this entire useless process.
The agent David Brown was upset. I was asked to spend money we didn't have to repair the little things about the house myself?! That was the purpose for the reverse mortgage process. Without authorization nor any signed contract, our homeowners insurance helped us finally with roof but this agent placed his companies name as our mortgage, of which Nationwide Equities is NOT!
And placed a roofing contractor company indicating we have a signed contract for the roof to be replaced!?!?
We never signed anything and now the check to pay the present roofing company cannot pay them because two unauthorized business names are upon the given insurance checks!!! This is and wrong!

Preferred solution: complete termination of business arrangements
Nationwide equities misleading verification letter
With our reverse mortgage we routinely receive requests for verification of occupancy, insurance, etc. I received letter from assigned officer Brandon Hooper requesting "verification of occupancy" for our reverse mortgage, which did not appear right.
--not very officail looking and did not have the name of our mortgage holder. This a sales letter to refinance with Nationwide Equities. It also has the email address "www.nmlsconsumeracccess.org" which sounds official-- like government access.
The NMLS merely acknowledges that nationwide equities is a licensed financial planner and in which states, and DOES NOT ENDORSE. Seniors (of which I am one) are among the most vulnerable and are probably most worried about living our llives in comfort and financial security.
Nationwide Equities uses deceptive business practices.
Out of the blue, starting in January of 2017, Nationwide Equities began cold-calling me. I have recorded about a dozen calls, all of which are violating the DO NOT CALL registry.
They left messages a few times, after I had reported their prior infractions to the DO NOT CALL number. One stated there was a discrepancy in my reverse mortgage, implying they were calling from my reverse mortgage company, which they ARE NOT, and further insinuating that there was some sort of legal irregularity with my mortgage, WHICH THERE IS NOT. The so-called 'discrepancy' is a deceptive term for the fact that my home value has risen--this is public information. This is a ploy to get me to refinance with them.
Note to N.E.: NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. GIVE IT UP. Another in the category of deceptive business practices from Nationwide Equities is, among the flurry of fake-check letters I received, demanding that I contact them immediately, is a letter insisting I contact them this instant to prove to them that I still live in my home--and thus, implying they are acting on behalf of HUD and my mortgage company.
In addition, none of their increasingly shrill letters has a letter head nor clear identification of who they are, nor a return address, nor anything but a toll-free number, which captures the number of the caller. So, of course, I would NEVER do business with such an unbusiness-like entity, but I will promise to continue reporting them to any and all proper authorities.

Misleading statements in mailer
Received the GLOWING information that I was automatically entitled to a $20, 800 cash out from their new Reverse Mortgage, based on current home value and current Rev Mtge being refinanced. Being the skeptic I am, I researched their website for additional info and utilizing the calculator provided therein realized they intended to collect $15,000 in closing fees and doc fees, leaving me a cash out of $5,000 and a lot of hassle to boot.
As an older citizen, living on Social Security alone, paying serious dollars monthly for medical expense not previously covered by insurance, the letter/ mailer seemed a fabulous opportunity to pay off these debts and clear my mind.
NOT SO MUCH WHEN RESEARCH WAS COMPLETE. Glad to have research skill to discover this blatant lie and of the opportunity to express through this forum the facts as discovered.

BLATANT MISADVERTIZING
We received an unsolicited "official" US looking notice from Nationwide Equities Corp. We are elderly and nearly fell for this repulsive scam. It should be illegal to send out such documents to unsuspecting home owners!
There is an image of the Statue of Liberty on the cover, also stating"This notice was prepared and sent by a government approved lending institution..."
Inside there is a threat if 5 years imprisonment or a
$2000 fine or both for tampering with or obstructing the delivery of the notice. There is a contact number 800-861-****. It is repeated with a processing number and makes everything look official as if one MUST call. I am mortified!
Preferred solution: Government should BAN that type of mailing out to elderly personal property owners.
I never received my check
I closed a reverse mortgage with Nationwide Equities on December 11, 2015. I received my check for $3617 from HUD within a week of closing.
I never received the check from Nationwide which according to the paper work should be $3210. WHERE'S MY CHECK? My agent Joe Webb will not return my phone calls. I have been waiting over a month for this check.
When I finally did get through to Mr. Webb,
2 weeks ago he said he would have to see if the check had gone out and been cashed by someone else. Early last week he verified that the check had not been sent out, and that I would be getting it.
I have yet to receive it. I have called and left voicemails and texts for him this week but as yet he hasn't seen fit to respond to me.
Please cal me at (916) 402-**** Cheryl Nichols.
Peck Holdings forged my check
We hired Shawn Peck of Peck Holdings LLC & Nationwide Equities, to help modify our mortgage. In November 07, I paid him $750 which was required up front. He almost immediately said he had reached a agreement with my mortgage company and promised the settlement papers would arrive for us to sign.
I called and emailed him constantly. Each time there was some excuse or he would claim to have spoken to them and it would be a couple of days. He even told me it would be ok not to pay the mortgage and that it would all be added into the new loan. I finally got tired and called my mortgage company. They had never heard of him. While they had some papers they could not proceed without my filing something. Shawn Peck insisted that he had indeed been speaking with them.
By this point I had not paid the mortgage and am in trouble. The next thing I knew Shawn Peck had taken $550 from my bank account. I called him and told him it was fraud. He mentioned the agreement I signed which only states that I owe more money at the end of his service. What it actually says is that I would owe another $500 and then an additional $500,when everything was done The remedy per the contract if I didn't pay, was to put a lien on my property. He claims that he was allowed to draft my account which he was not. I filed all the necessary papers at the bank and filed a police report. Now I find he has taken another $1000!!! My bank says it takes 90 days to give me the money back. This person is a thief!

Need good advice NOW ! Today I started the process of supposedly lowering my interest rates on a reverse mortgage which I got early last year.
They will also give me a line of credit which will only be charged interest if I take out money from it. Guy was thorough and helpful, I thought. Interest rates have come down. Seeking opinions on what I should do.
Please help.
Thanks. Iris
Have you checked to see if they planned on crediting all of your closing costs/settlement charges? Or maybe the agent on the phone was suggesting that the workup or application process to see if you are eligible was free?I dont know the answers but it was something I thought of while readig your review.Best of luck!
