I am finishing up my bachelors degree, they accepted most of my classes from my Associates Degree. Because i have taken so many courses already, I was forced to take classes that I did not want to take, because of this my GPA will slip. I am a mom of two and work full time, I do like that I can just interact with a quiz, or submit an assignment instead of being in a live class.

Unsatisfactory

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I attended NPC in 2014 - **** for an Associate degree. The instructors are phenomenal, however, this school is more like a baby law school rather than a paralegal program.

When compared to programs my peers attended which gave them practical courses like accounting, law office management, small business management, and report writing which are all critical when learning basic ins and outs of the law firm or corporate world. It was a struggle to find a firm that was willing to train a paralegal with a certification who didn't know basic procedures.

My advice to this school would be to focus on paralegal skills and not lawyer skills. Mix up the instructors, have Senior paralegals teach some courses.

Were you not able to see a list of required courses, before you paid your money? Did you really have no clue as to what courses were going to be taught?

This is not my opinion this is a fact of what I actually endured at National Paralegal College if things were not bad enough I spoke to LLCC about transferring credits and was told that National Paralegal College credits would not transfer to LLCC because National Paralegal College had the same accreditation as ITT Tech so if you graduate from National Paralegal College you have to redo the same classes all over again they will not be transferred to a legit college and a good job will not hire you with National Paralegal College credits so anyone attending National Paralegal College will not get a good job or degree making it a bogus degree

It was a great experience. Now I can cite the law regarding taxation. Only two professors were out of synchro. But the world in not perfect. Some black/white specks in the milk. I recommend this college to the max. People are going to have problems in their journey to their achievements, that is fact in life. But they should concentrate in the positive of reaching their goal. If a wall is in front of you, get help, and that is what they did. they helped me. Now I have a Magna *** Laude categorization from them. Thanks.

Discriminative, Horrible Graders, Some horrible Teachers fail you because they don't like you, Unprofessional

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I am a student @ National Paralegal & I'm debating on whether to stay Or not because of everything, I put in to leave a couple of months ago, Because of one of the professors Dede Sandler, they discriminated Against my blind husband with Kidney Failure, then told me on several occasions that if I didn't like there policy I can leave I was nice I overlooked it, They've tried to drop me several times saying I didn't do My assignments before 2 weeks, I couldn't because my husband was In the hospital when I was in Dede Sandler's class & in all the Assignments even those that are not supposed to require you to do an IRAC Essay for your classes require them, & I researched how to do Them in Jeremy's class I did OK I asked her Dede Sandler to make Sure I was doing them right & Dede said yes that's how you do them then She did not have a grader & still failed the class after she said I did it Right, Then I reached out several times to my mentor & several times no Response & when she did respond it was about 6 weeks later how Can she help me when she's not available by email to take that back a Couple times I emailed her & she wrote back a couple of minutes later Saying she was unavailable & would contact me later as of today she Still has not, My husband was my tutor & my husband's a very good Paralegal/Lawyer got a standing recommendation to Law school By Judge Magistrate Sue Myerscoff, & he helped me & Dede still failed Me. Then any other school they have books & FAFSA Covers them here you don't have books you pay out of pocket if you Need a book this is the only college that does this, Heck even closed Down ITT TECH had books & they were stealing money & shut down By the Federal Government for it.

I would know unfortunately, I was one of them scammed by them. You are not allowed to be a notetaker From Study Soup or course hero using your own work, not anyone else's your own work. They claim this to be Plagiarism But how is it Plagiarism if you're not using anyone else's work your Using your own & giving student's permission to use your work. Then Dede even told me that she was intimidated of how smart my Husband is & that's why she failed me when she failed me immediately before dropping out I wrote Jeremy Rovinski & told him What was going on with Dede Sandler & even told in class & so did Others tell what Dede was doing to us & he said he'd talk to her & I told him I wanted to appeal the decision to fail me as it was extremely biased & as of today they have not appealed this yet.

If Dede Sandler cannot teach a class then why is she still working for National Paralegal & I'm not the only one that Dede did this to I heard several people complain about Dede's unfair practices this at Least is extremely unprofessional, This school is the only school I Know that starts you doing IRAC Essays without no type of English Class you take the law classes 1st & then English how do they think With no English Composition class until at the end your going to Even remotely know anything about an IRAC Essay. I had to ask my Husband as I didn't even know they had an IRAC Essay or what it Was?

Then when I complained about Dede to Admissions & Financial Aid on the phone was told if I didn't like the way National Paralegal Did stuff to leave so I got tired of it & put in to FAFSA to quit the School at the end of Legal Ethics & Professional Responsibility then I tried to work it out & stay @ National Paralegal & again spoke to Admissions & was told I had to pay out of pocket, when I had Financial Aid & National Paralegal failed me on purpose, I was told They didn't send the money back to Financial Aid that they kept it, Then dropped me, If Dede wouldn't have failed me on Purpose I'd still be getting Financial Aid but I got a job @ McDonald's And I was willing to give them one more chance even though I got To pay because of there false negative unethical actions I'm Receiving a grant from my work from McDonald's/Archways & they'd Pay 3400 a year, & now that I'm working I can afford to pay Up to 200 a month I sent Jeremy Rovinski an email last night Explaining this then I got an email from Financial Aid threatening to Drop me & I wrote her back & said I took a test & the same information, then I got an email from the dean reminding me that My class is over in 3 days & I told him the same thing & still have yet To hear anything from any of those 3, If they spend less time Failing Me on purpose & teaching me more than just the fundamentals I'd Do ten times better, I've tried to work with National Paralegal Several times, I had to wait 6 weeks to get my 1st loan disbursement That's unethical even right there. I have proof of everything I'm Saying.

Fraud

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

A month prior to upcoming classes, I was signed up for classes and my fasfa was completed. I was told that I needed to make an unnecessary change to my fasfa.

On the day that classes were starting, I was told my that my aid award would not be ready on time, although it was already submitted. After making SEVERAL attempts to still start classes, even offering to pay for the classes needed until my aid was awarded, I was told I still would not be able to start. A baby sitter was also hired for my daughter so I could focus on live lecture dates. Laura Levin (the admissions associate) should be put in training so she can learn how to properly communicate with students.

After telling me I would be unable to attend course THE DAY OF THE START DATE, she then gave me the option of either attending courses a month from now, or to get my deactivated.

But after researching the school, they aren't ABA approved. Luckily, I was given the run around prior to starting to work on the degree.

Don't waste money on a Paralegal program that is not ABA approved. Attorneys want paralegals who have completed ABA approved schools. The person who said only law schools are ABA approved is an obvious dummy.

This is a paralegal college. Only law schools are ABA approved. The master of taxation is if you are already an attorney or if you want to be an enrolled agent with the IRS otherwise this is a parlegal college and paralegal colleges are not ABA approved.

Paralegal programs, such as the one I attended at Georgetown University, can be ABA approved. If you are interested in an ABA approved list of programs, go to the American Bar Association website, click on Paralegals under Topics and Resources and scroll down to Directory of ABA Approved Paralegal Programs. It's not cool to disseminate incorrect information.

To be fair, I will add that most of the instructors are very good and I have enjoyed most of the classes. But I have had too many problems, such as the ones mentioned, classes that they had accepted transfer credits for suddenly being "unfulfilled ", and issues with the financial aid department

Original review Apr 07, 2019
Just in the past month, i have been locked out of my classes, because even though i was currently enrolled in 2 classes and still had to do a final for a third they insisted that i sign up for more classes or be dropped. I had wanted to take a short break (which would have me out of class for about a month until the new financial aid year started) but was told i would be unenrolled from the school if i did that even though i have now taken 16 classes consecutively without any type of break at this school (i have 4 to go). Now i am in my business ethics class...go to start the assignments and realize that i dont have what i need to do them because the links they provided to buy the books in the syllabus leads to the wrong edition. I wasted money on a nonreturnable textbook they provided the link for and now have to buy a second textbook for the same class. I cant wait to finish and be done with the headache.

Never a problem left unresolved

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I have been attending NPC for more than 2 years and have never had an issue involving anything from financial aid to grading policy which was not immediately addressed and resolved; often by the Director of Ed. himself. My Student Ledger is religiously reconciled w/in 14 days of disbursement. The grading policy is more than liberal, and course content never less than entirely comprehensive. I was designated an experienced "mentor" within my 1st week of attendance and can access her to this day. This is a school largely staffed by attorneys; absolutely nothing below board here. It is really a matter of what one makes with it!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Hi everyone. I currently am almost finished with the Paralegal Certificate. I've had some draw backs that made it longer for me to finish however, I'm almost there! I like the flexibility of this school. It's extremely hard to go to classes at 4pm then classes at 5pm while you work in an office from 9-5 five days a week. However, you have the choice to do an interaction quiz during the class or you can just do an interaction question. The mentors are great! However, I'd prefer a skype or facetime session. While emails are great, it's hard to get in detail and if you have questions it takes a bit for them to get back to you. However, it is a great school. :) Definitely recommend!

A little bit of phone conversation can go a long way. I received a phone call from the dean of the graduate program the exact day my grievance was received at NPC.

I'm positive he called within hours of receiving it (fedex!). Once we finally spoke, he offered his personal assistance. He conveyed care and understanding that humanized remote distant learning. Thankfully, we were able to come to an agreement that supports my education goal.

He attentively put my worries at ease. It was in that moment, I felt supported. I've decided to continue with the program and trust in his assistance moving forward. Its important to understand that without non-verbal cues such as vocal tone and body language; emails are left ambiguous to interpretation.

Word choice, syntax, opening and closing set the "tone" of an email. Thus, making it strategic to convey critism and motivation in an effective manner. I don't feel that my experience is equal for everyone at NPC.

If you have a disagreement with one individual, it's best to be proactive and seek resolution that will benefit you in a positive way. Im grateful, the dean provided me with a more positive solution than I could have expected.

Original review Oct 21, 2017
My concern has zero to do with money or financial aid. I was told by a Director that i was "lucky" to have received the grades i did yet this Directors mishandling of my schedule which caused the issue. Im positive there is an internal employee code of conduct. But it seems that this does not apply to them. I was emailed at work, by a Director who scolded me like i was 5 years old for getting a B and using extension. At no point was my gpa under 3.0 during her scoldings. Who allows student to be treated like this? NPC obviously. At the end of the day most of these students are adults with jobs and family. Theres no excuses for such behavior and incompetence. I really feel the material was great and my instructors were great. Haas is great. I learned a lot! And they do teach you the fundamentals neccessary however if a Director who has the power over your schedule, financial aid, etc, is incompetent and in her eyes above the law then definitely do not attend. You will get emails at your job with her spilling whatever she deems necessary. Even more sad is she blamed errors of my schedule on the poor sweet admissions reps. As a Director, take responsibility of errors, as a whole, of NPC. The use of "discretion" has gone way too far. Then again this Director spent most of her career in the IT field, while holding a J.D. , sad. How she was ever put in her position at NPC is beyond logic. Her social skills are less than qualified. I was treated like i was lucky to be there, yet they received 50,000 dollars for my attendance. So why am i going to attend, pay with interest as a consumer to a school that allows this? Absolutely no way, im not. We have to trust the handling of our education, when its not in our hands. I have zero trust from my experience. Im a consumer, and my rights are governed under contractual law. I learned a lot, and i will apply what i learned. My complaint is faculty misconduct. And unfortunately it was allowed. Disappointing.

Thank you for the feedback and we are sorry that you were disappointed with our communications. All communications should be sensitive and respectful and we apologize if we fell short of that standard in your case.

Part of the job of the person who communicated with you is to do her best to ensure that students do not run into academic problems and she tries to be as proactive as possible on that score. There's a fine line between aggressively trying to head off potential problems before they arise and being too pushy.

It sounds like that line may have been crossed in your case; but please be sure that the intent was to try to ensure that potential problems never arose. We will seek to ensure that this does not happen again.

We hope that you will continue your education at NPC and give us a chance to rectify any problems that may have arisen, but we wish you good luck regardless of your ultimate decision.

The grading practices at the college

Updated by user Jul 26, 2017

For those who read the first post and thought, that must be some disgruntal student who is flunking to the the contray. In my first class, I made I perfect score on the exam and the assignment.

On the last two exams, I missed those by 4 points total. So, I take prise in my grades. But, I want to earn them. I want a challenge.

And if I fail, I want to fail. NOT because I was never taught the material or it was not in the material that at the time was not in the reading material either. I should not know about your spouse's job situation, children in the background, etc. That's too personal and unprofessional.

I have one hour of your time, no office hours, or no other means offered to me. So let's keep it on topic. It got so bad I could no longer stomach the lectures that I paid for beacuse other less mature students took class time and were asking irrelevant questions. Questions according to the syllabus you were not supposed to ASK or answer.

SO my review is helpful. Some teachers don't grade.

They give an opinion because they don't teach the material. And your grade suffers because of it.

Original review Jul 24, 2017
I am a student at National Paralegal College. I have been since May. I am not fond of the grading practices at the college. You are not really graded on the material as much as you ae graded on your opinion and how well you can present your argument. I know this is about law. But law is based on facts and before we are out in the world we should be tested on whether are not we know the facts. I woud like to see a more well rounded mixture of objective and subjective questions. Without having a good foundation any house will fall. And this school they skips the foundation and go straight to painting. Terminology is overlooked. Especially in one class I am taking. I know more about the instrucor's life than I do the law but he/she gave an unflattering grade on an assignment. Before you hand out grades, at least do your part. And took two week to do that. Students want to know how they are doing, before they hand in something else. But, the school is not all bad. The grading system is just unfair. You cant't fight somene's opinion. But you can fight a definition, true- false, or fil in the blank. And could it get back and know your progress faster. Thus hand in more work faster. Because you know if you are on the right track.

This College is so wonderful! The staff is amazing and so are the student mentors. This school is like one big family! Everybody is so willing to help each other and being a new student I was so nervous. Every issue I've had the staff was quick to help me solve it and really made me feel confident about my ability to graduate. They offer study halls and numerous resources for extra practice. The students are so nice and if anybody is struggling all students are there to offer help and support anyway they can.Amazing support everybody wants to help you succeed. I couldn't have been happier in my choice to attend NPC. Stephen Hass the Dean takes a firsthand approach in answering questions and a phenomenal dean. Every class I've taken is fun and fulfilling at same time. I am very satisfied with NPC.

National Paralegal college, financial aid and staff

I Graduated at the end of September of 2016 with my Associated in Paralegal Studies. I never once had a problem with financial aid. All my money went to the classes that I took and anything extra they returned to me (this was a choice you can check off when you enroll). If you live off of financial aid then I understand the frustration. I worked full time and took classes full time. It was not easy. Every single person I spoke with from day one at the school was quick to answer my questions and get back to me with any of my concerns. I only had one problem at the end of the program where I had to email the dean of the school. He replied back to me promptly and the issue was taken care of. I enrolled in other schools to continue with my BA and took the free one or 2 week course and nothing compared to NPC. I had issues with enrolment at these other schools right away, they would not get back to me as quick as the staff at NPC did. I finally decided to re-enroll to NPC and now going for my BS in Legal Studies. I know others that attend 2 different online schools, both are unhappy with the way financial aid is handles and both are unhappy with the way courses are thought. Its not easy, and its not supposed to be easy so a lot of the complaints I read are irrelevant. You have to work hard to get where you want to be... and no matter what school you choose, financial aid will always take time but as long as you read the small print of what you signed up for, you will know what to expect.

I love this school, the instructors are insightful and extremely knowledgeable, especially Stephen and Dede. The Financial Aid department has been extremely frustrating.

In my experience it has been very difficult to get consistent information when calling. When you rely on financial aid there should be an easier transition especially when all the necessary requirements have been met on your part.

In this case, I wasn't given the opportunity to speak with the Dean. This post allowed him to reach out.

He has made an effort to help me. I am appreciative and will bring the review up to a positive standing.

I had to withdraw from this school. Here is why. I was part-time. Had always been part-time. (Single mom raising 3 kids on her own without child support, and working full-time). I would call and they would help me pick my classes, etc. No problem. Somehow, the last time I picked my classes, I was switched to full-time without knowing it. I was in the middle of a class and then another started. So I thought it was an overlap, which happens sometimes. Then another started. So I had 3 classes all at once. I tried calling and it took days to get a hold of anyone. By that time it was too late to drop the extra classes and I found out that I HAD to take them. I failed all 3. This was THEIR mistake. So I had to withdraw completely. It ruined my GPA, my motivation, everything. THEN, they billed me for the classes I was in the middle of that THEY threw me into full-time. Not at all professional. They wouldn't even attempt to make it right. Everything was perfect up until this problem occurred. I had good grades. This career path has ruined me financially.

National Paralegal College - Program Review from Stow, Ohio

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I attended NPC for a year, had none of the issues people are complaining about, and graduated on my own schedule. Everything about this school is prompt and attentive, every email or phone call was answered faster than I expected and the Dean even emailed me on a Sunday morning when I had a very frustrating technical experience with the testing system late on a Saturday night, if thats not prompt attention, Im not sure what is!

I see a lot of frustration over financial aid but Id imagine anyone trying to 'live' off of student loans would be in a frustrating position anyway and comparing NPC to other schools and how fast 'you get your checks' may have more to do with the schools course schedule then them trying to be lazy or rip anyone off. Most universities hold semesters, at NPC a new class can start every 4 weeks and classes only last 8 weeks, point is the school is on a different schedule than most others and quite frankly thats part of what I preferred about it, it helped keep my attention by giving you all the material in 8 weeks rather than drag it out for 5 months! I also read a comment about the school not teaching you anything youd need to work in the legal profession and laughed! Because its a national school, they do not focus on state laws, etc.

But they intend, and are very successful at, teaching students the basic skills youll need going into the legal profession while also providing the skills and resources to find out what you dont know on your own. Because of NPC I was recently hired at a law firm with no previous legal experience and the entire office is impressed by how much I do know, or can figure out, just from my education, quite frankly they find it hard to believe this is my first job in the legal field.

If you want to be a paralegal or attend NPC, do it. Dont listen to the people who write bad things because theyre butthurt that their rent was late over student loans, the education and experience far exceeds any bad reviews Ive read here!

They have a 51% graduation rate. I went to Paralegal school years ago IN PERSON with instructors who were real, practicing attorneys.

My graduating class had a 100% success rate.

The market is already glutted with Paralegals and the last people to be hired are those that use those "long-distance, learn at home at your own pace" schools. ABA certified Paralegals are what attorneys seek.

Guest

I can't imagine what law firm would hire you, based on the extremely poor writing you have demonstrated here. Did you proofread what you wrote before submitting? If I were NPC, I would be horrified that someone with such poor writing skills was speaking on behalf of the school!

I graduated in 2013 and was too poorly equipped for the field. I paid $25,000 for an education that was sub-par. I did not know proper legal formatting, court room procedures, etc. upon graduation. While these things are taught it is so brief, and yet a very large part of the field. I feel scammed.

The legal field is constantly changing. Forms and laws change all the time.

Formatting is often at the discretion of the attorney or judge. All they can do is show the basics of legal theory and terms and the rest is all learn as you go.

This is the same for actual law school. Lawyers don't come out of law school knowing anything about how the actual courts/forms/etc work.
