BEWARE National Merchant Alliance for your credit card processing!
I closed a retail clothing business in May 2013. I was using National Merchant Alliance of Overland Park, KS for my credit card sales. Pursuant to their own rules I sent them a letter on May 3, 2013 explaining that we would no longer need their services as the shop had closed. All inventory was gone, the premises closed and there was no further business conducted what so ever.My CPA was preparing to file the final return when she informed me that we were still being billed by National Merchant Alliance each month for approximately $33.00. I was sure that was a mistake. I contacted a manager Philip Beedle who essentially said he did not believe me and that I must produce some other evidence to "validate" my cancellation letter. I informed him that his own rules do not require some sort of additional "proof" that we cancelled with them. Even though they had billed me for 9 months ($297), in an effort to be fair I only asked that they refund $200.00. Philip Beedle became hostile, offered $98.95 and essentially said either take my offer or I will not communicate any you any further. Now he will no longer respond. I have provided a copy of my cancellation letter and the email exchange to the Better Business Bureau to try and stop this business and its shoddy practices. Really the money is not the issue here. This issue is that National Merchant Alliance condones shoddy business practices and will cheat the consumer without recourse. I would stay far far away from National Merchant Alliance if I were looking for a credit card processor. Why put your self and your business in and adversarial position with your processor when there are many others who will assist you and help your business grow. Shame on you Phillip Beedle and National Merchant Alliance.

If you read my last reply in the BBB exchange you would see how the letter, properly sent in May 2013, WAS SCANNED IN AS A PDF at the same time as I sent it to the BBB nine months later. It was NOT created on scanning software.
You need to learn a little more about tech before you open your mouth and insert $#@%. This is so typical of National Merchant Alliance and its stooges such as yourself.
Complete attempt to redirect the conversation when you are in trouble. The oldest tactics in the book.
I am sure you hate all attorneys…until you need one.
PS The BBB compliant is still online.
I need to learn a little more about 'Tech'...really? Every document that is created will leave a digital signature or creation date...you falsified the document that was submitted originally.
I am not talking about scanning software, referring to the original document...you are a SCAM artist, a fraud and a liar! To personally name an employee of a company who is following rules that are laid out by the card associations is really just sick. I think you should be reported. You definitely would know about opening your mouth and inserting $#@%!
I hate 'bad' attorneys like yourself to be clear.
Why don't you go do something constructive and stop waging this witch hunt for less than you charge for an hours worth of your time.

I am not sure that you understand the facts in this case. This is not a personal vendetta.
I am only dealing with National Merchant Alliance through their manager. He is the one who represents the company. I am glad your are investigating. After you have read the BBB complaint and the cancellation letter you can come to your own conclusion as can all other business owners.
I am glad you are happy.
Others can make up their own mind. I stand by the facts in this case.
Everything you say is completely false…I know much more now…Mr. /Ms.
Attorney. I hear through the grapevine you submitted a cancellation document that was created the day you called this company…not 9 months earlier like you say. They must not have taught you in law school that if you really know what you are doing, you can always find out when a document was created. Also, most attorney's I know send certified letters or FedEx/UPS letters so they can actually be tracked.
That probably wouldn’t have worked well for you 9 months after the fact, huh? Also, it looks like the BBB dropped your disingenuous complaint so that is false as well.
There is a TON of information that this Attorney is omitting…is he/she even connected to this business?? I am sure now he/she will cry foul and attack me, but the small business owners and consumers that use this site have certain things very much in common...they do not feel sorry for people who lie and they do not have any sympathy for attorneys.
I think I will find out where else Anonymous Attorney is posting so he/she can be exposed there as well. Case closed Anonymous!
Find someone else to cyber-bully…this site was not created for your personal gain!
FYI...BEWARE OF ATTORNEYS...THEY ARE THE REAL ENEMY!!!

Oh, did I hit a nerve? There was no scan, and I have forgotten more about technology than you will ever know.
While you were scanning...why didn't you just fax to NMA, or better yet, send a certified letter like most good attorneys...each method would have given you an actual record to stand on. You are a fraud.
I must say, you did catch me in my comment about attorneys (although nowhere do I state that I 'hate' attorneys)...I should have stated that 'bad', 'dishonest' or 'misguided' attorneys are the real enemy. I think most people visiting this site can see through your smoke.
Stooges? Classic projection...go away cyber-bully!
Seems like there is more to this story. We have a chain of hardware stores in Southwest Missouri and have done business with National Merchant Alliance for several years.
We have gone through 5 or 6 processing relationships over the years and found these guys to be very upfront and honest. They came in and saved us thousands of dollars and have always been helpful and upfront...They are the only processor I have dealt with that has a knowledgeable support staff which is easily accessible by phone and knows us on a first name basis.
Our experience has been quite the opposite of this post.

That was our experience as well during the two years we did business. It was only when we went to cancel that problems arose.
I have all the letters and emails to verify what was stated in the complaint.
I wish you better luck.
PS if you ever cancel you should send it green card signature required even though it is not in there terms of contract. Cover yourself.
I will take that into advisement...Anonymous? Their standard contract is 3 years, like most processors.
You didn't mention anything about a cancellation fee if you were only with them for 2 years. Ours was a 3 year deal with a $400 cancellation fee, I believe. If they didn't enforce that provision of the contract then it can’t be all that bad. I am assuming you had 1 account with them if the fixed cost is only $33.
My company is past our 3 year contractual commitment so we are covered. Also, I have always understood that processors need an email or letter indicating you want to close your account. We have been down that road with several other processors and it can be annoying. If a business owner is diligent and paying attention the most you would be overcharged is a month and that is usually rectified with a call.
Each time we closed an account we had to end up calling in to make sure they received our notice. Pretty common stuff in the world of processing.
We have 7 merchant accounts with them (NMA) and have worked with Philip Beedle over the last several years. I have never known him to be hostile but quite the contrary, very polite and knowledgeable.
Our own experience of course...but it does sound like I have much more experience with this particular company.
I am here to say they are much better than most processors and believe telling people on this site to 'beware' is a little over dramatic in my opinion.
Thank you for your observation. The issue in my case was the cancellation letter.
Philip Beedle never mentioned the cancellation fee until AFTER he had ceased all communication with our attempt to rectify the situation and we had moved on to the Better Business Bureau. Suddenly he was a good guy and waived the fee. This is after he had offered a small settlement in order for us to go away.
I have posted our letter an fall emails on the BBB website if you care to review.
I am glad you are diligent in managing your active accounts. You did not mention if you had closed your business or merely switched processors. In our case we completely closed the business, settled all accounts and ceased all transactions. Our CPA did note that there was no activity whatsoever on these NMA accounts from May until February when the closing return was prepared.
The closed business was not our primary living so it was not monitored every month as perhaps you did on your primary business accounts. The issue here is whether once you comply with their rules do they have the right to "add " additional terms to the cancellation process. I am glad you follow up with secondary terms to protect your business.
I still believe all others should BEWARE of this type of scam. Caveat emptor.
