A few months ago, I signed up for their "Premiere eChecking" account which said no monthly fee is charged if you make 3 BillPay payments. So I have been making 3 or more BillPay payments to my credit cards diligently every month.
But I noticed that NASA FCU did charge me the $7 the monthly fee the last couple of months of September and October. I tried to dispute this through secure messaging, multiple times, but they just wouldn't acknowledge that they're outright dishonoring what they publicized on their website "No monthly maintenance fee - With direct deposit or BillPay+ and eStatements". The original account description page has vanished mysteriously but it's still recorded on the Wayback Machine site.
I always keep screenshots for my records. They employ a very sneaky way to take money from their customers knowing some customers just won't monitor account activities carefully.

Very Disappointed
I’ve been a happy client of NASAFCU for over 10 years, but I’ve become extremely disappointed with them in the past month. Many of the world’s brightest minds are the clients of this bank, and a specific new rule that should offend any middle-school graduate’s intelligence, along with acute incompetence and rudeness of certain employees like Marissa Gabriento and Sam Keller, has many of us, formerly happy long-term clients, on the *** of switching banks. Marissa Gabriento’s rogue, unjustified actions that have no basis on any of NASAFCU’s terms and conditions, have harmed my small business, and wasted a lot of my time and caused confusion and frustration.
NASAFCU now requires that each check is endorsed with the signature, date, and that the check is supposed to be deposited at NASAFCU via remote deposit only. It’s a regulation, not a law, and banks are under no obligation to follow this, and they usually don’t. It’s supposed to be a security feature to stop people from double-depositing checks - e.g. remote-depositing them at NASAFCU and then cashing that same check somewhere else. However, it’s absolutely horrible for the relationship with the clients because they now have to write a short novel at the signature line behind every check, and even more importantly - it’s 100% ineffective for its intended purpose. There’s NOTHING that prevents an aspiring con-man from simply writing the extra sentences with a pencil or an erasable pen, or taking a picture of the back of a different check, and still double-depositing the check if they were so inclined.
I’ve been endorsing the checks in accordance with the new regulations - I’ve signed them, dated them, I’ve checked the box where it says “For remote deposit only”, and I’ve written “NASAFCU” on the back of each check I attempted to remote deposit. However, several checks have been rejected several days as “not properly endorsed”. I inquired via email about what exactly wasn’t correct about the way I endorsed them, and didn’t get an answer back except that it was incorrectly endorsed, as well as some dumb patronizing advice that I should drive 25 minutes to the bank each way to deposit each check. I have my own small business to run, and I no longer had any idea which checks had been accepted and which hadn’t, and why. It was an accounting nightmare. I specifically asked to get this resolved over email so that I would have a proper record of what’s being said, since every NASAFCU employee told me different things.
An incredibly inept and rude employee Marissa Gabriento kept not telling me what was incorrect about the way I endorsed the checks. She then closed my remote deposit account altogether without any warning because according to her, I wasn’t “cooperating” by not answering her phone calls. I responded promptly to every email she sent, and I had specifically asked to do this over the email.
I brought this up with Karen Friel, the Vice President of Operations, but she’s been unable to resolve this properly or respond because she’s going through some family emergency.
I went to the branch yesterday with some of the checks I had unsuccessfully tried to remote deposit, and I asked what exactly was wrong with how these checks were endorsed. Two out of the three workers I talked to said that they were properly endorsed.
The third person - Sam Keller, supposedly the branch manager, who was incredibly rude and combative from the start, said that the checks were obviously not properly endorsed because it didn’t have the word “via” in it, and she incorrectly insisted that it was a federal law to endorse them this way. Really??? The lack of the word “via” causes an endless stream of rejected checks, confusion on both sides, and ever-souring customer relations?? It’s so embarrassing for NASAFCU, it should offend anyone’s intelligence. It’s truly unfitting for a credit union that services people who are working on sending people to Mars.
Even though all three people I talked to had a different understanding of what constitutes a property endorsed check, all three agreed that they get a constant flow of infuriated clients who are confused and extremely unhappy with this situation. Is it really worth it?
I have completely lost track of what checks I’ve deposited and what I haven’t, and what has been rejected and what hasn’t. Sometimes identically endorsed checks get accepted and sometimes they don’t, like a monkey picking answers out of the hat, or like I’m dealing with a magic 8-ball instead of a credit union. Ironically, since I did endorse the checks properly, I’m unable to deposit these checks in any other way than Remote Deposit at NASAFCU.
NASAFCU used to be such a fantastic credit union. I’ve recommended it to many of my friends, and I’m now ashamed of it. This credit union needs to return to its mission statement and roots, it deserves brighter and perhaps more courteous minds working for it than Marissa Gabriento and Sam Keller.
I hope this embarrassing problem will be fixed promptly.
DO NOT BUY INTO THE FALSE ADVERTISING!!
DO NOT BUY INTO THE CURRENT ADVERTISEMENT THEY HAVE ABOUT THE HIGH LOAN TO VALUE REFI WITH NO MORTGAGE INSURANCE. THAT IS JUST TO GET YOU TO APPLY.
READY FOR THIS? THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED 21K TO CLOSE ON A 10K HOME EQUITY. WHEN I LAUGHED AND QUIT THE APPLICATION PROCESS, THE BANK WAS QUICK TO HAVE SOMEONE EMAIL TO HELP ME. WHAT DID HE DO?
TOLD ME THERE WAS A GLITCH, AND TOLD ME TO FURNISH THE DOCS TO COMPLETE MY APPLICATION. I ASKED HIM TO CRUNCH NUMBERS AND LET ME KNOW BEFORE i WASTED MY TIME AND HE MUST HAVE BEEN TOO BUSY FOR THAT BECAUSE ALL THEY WANTED WAS MY DOCUMENTS BEFORE THEY WOULD ANSWER HOW MUCH EQUITY WOULD THEY ALLOW ME TO TAKE AND AT WHAT COST. REALLY??? WOULD HAVE TAKEN THE MAN LESS THEN 5 MINUTES.
ALL THE INFORMATION WAS IN THE APPLICATION, JUST THE DOCS NOT ATTACHED. FRAUD.
WILL NEVER CONSIDER THIS BANK FOR ANYTHING IN THE FUTURE.
- False advertising and lazy staff
NASA federal credit union - careless, ignorant. lethargic service
Want a credit union that ignores the Customer after the Customer sends multiple e-mail requests for service over six [6] months, a credit union that takes four [4] months to process a simple application then closes your account without your permission... and keeps your money?...
...then this is the bank for you.
Forget their flashy advertisements on the radio...and fake testimony on the internet.
This credit union is a self-centered enterprise. You might as well launch a missile with your money, concerns and applications into a black hole.
Response will not occur. Concerns will fester. Applications will vanish. Nothing will occur...then your account will close after one half of a year of suspense...and your money will vanish...
...into their account.
Sounds familiar? Consider the model of the CXOs of NASAfcu.org.
This credit union is as non-responsive as the executives that operate the US Congress, and government agencies, departments, bureaus and administrations...that reside in the home-town of this credit union.
The thread is common. They are all parasites. They demand that you pay their pay-check in exchange for no value.
Simplify your life.
Forget that you ever heard of NASA Federal Credit Union.

NASA Federal Credit Union STEALS YOUR MONEY!
I received a bank statement where NASA Federal Credit Union took 5 dollars over the past two months for inactivity on my account. I have never been notified or had money taken out over the year I had my account and had NO business transactions with them. The reason I opened the account was due to a friend who indicated they had good rates and were easy to deal with. I've bought a house and car over the past year and NO their rates weren't even close to what I was easily able to obtain. I had no reason to do business since they offered higher rates than many other lending institituions. My friend who told me about this bank has also had his a line of credit dropped from them at the same time due to low rates he was receiving. Looks like they are going through every account and finding ways to get rid of you or steal money from you what a sham.
If they would have sent me a letter indicating they were starting to charge their customers (STEAL FROM CUSTOMERS) just to have an account at their bank I would have removed my money imediately. I don't get up every morning to go to work to give FREE MONEY to NASA CREDIT UNION. They are crooks take you money elsewhere.
They also lied to me, I called explaining they took my money and I wanted my account closed, they told me to write a letter explaining why I wanted my account closed and request my money be given back in full since they did not notify me that their hands were in my account each month. The Manager disapproved my request, quess he works on commission and has my money in his pocket. You don't treat customers this way any keep their money when you're at fault. I will tell everyone what a terrible credit union this is and hope I get others to go where they will be treated with respect and not with crooks!!! STAY AWAY FRONM THESE CROOKS!!!!
