Terrible workmanship, responsiveness, timeliness

They refused to take responsibility to come back out and blamed the problems on the fact that I live in an old house. They deliberately waited until the time frame was too late for me to file a complaint with the BBB.

I finished the work myself that I could get to without a ladder. There are still spots on the second floor siding that show signs of peeling that will need to be redone in the next year or so.

Murphy Bros took on the painting of our 25' X 28' wood frame house in October 2017. This included, according to the contract, removal of shutters and storm windows for cleaning/repainting, washing and preparing the exterior, spot scraping/caulking/ and spot priming as needed, and then two coats of paint. The house was washed and primed only before cold weather set in during November 20177, so they determined to wait until Spring of 2018 to begin the scrape, sanding, spot prime, and final coat of paint (email from them, 11/13/17). In an email dated 4/25/18, we were told that our house would be "first on the list" to be completed. The project finally was a priority for Murphy Bros in July 2018, and by August, there still were 30 items on the Final Punch List they agreed to complete. In early November 2018, when the job still was not completed, we filed a complaint with the BBB. In an email from the president dated 20 November 2018, he agreed with my opinion that the work was marred by "lack of oversight, poor communication, and unacceptable workmanship" and apologized for this. A year later, in October 2019, I sent an email to the company, noting: "just thought I would let you know that we've identified a couple of places where the paint is peeling on our house. I assume it will be Spring before you get to these, but wanted to let you know while it's still within a year of when the work was completed." I followed up with the company in May 2020, and was told they would get out to look at it. Six weeks later, when no one had come out to look at it, I sent another email asking when the peeling paint issues would be fixed. They finally emailed on 7/20/20 that the issues were not their fault, that the peeling paint was because it is an old house, and that they would not do any further work. Since that email, I have found and repaired dry rot on several porch pillars that were not properly caulked and primed by Murphy Bros. And I finally scraped and repaired the siding and trim where I could reach it without a ladder.
