Middle Fork of the salmon river/arrogance and rudeness of the boatmen

I have had the privilege to go down the Middle Fork about 15-16 times and have never gotten off the river with such a bad taste in my mouth. On the river the commercial and private groups usually work together in a spirit of cooperation. As a private rafter I have been in a party that helped pull a sweepboat off *** rapid. The rafters were so thankful they gave us a couple of bottles of wine. The Sobek party we encountered were anything but helpful and cooperative. We got to the take out at Cache Bar and found commercial groups unloading on the left of the main ramp and on the far right ramp. The right side of the main ramp had a truck and trailer with a sweepbooat on the trailer, with no boats to load in sight. We asked Sobek to move the truck so we could load our boats. They said they were there first, although their boats did not arrive for 20-30 min.A lady in our party pointed out to the boatman,Matt Jost, that they were blocking the ramp with no boays to load.He told her "tough, deal with it.

I know sweeps move faster on the river and that's why we give them right of way.But the sweep should not be used to block the ramp when other partys are there to unload and Sobeks boats aren't even in sight.Next thing you know, with Sobeks arrogance, they will park on the ramp over night to hold a spot.

This incident was witnessed by Guy Armstrong,a surveyor for the Forest service who said he had never seen anything like it.

Perhaps Sobek should use the one finger salute their representatives gave the other partys at Cache bar upon leaving,as their company logo.

"Great Product, Hard Place To Work"

Former in Emeryville, CA – Reviewed Apr 20, 2012

Pros – The product is amazing and staff (excluding management) is incredible. Staff cares deeply about company history and works incredibly hard to preserve product and company success. Location of office in a good area with plenty of parking.

Cons – Management is not supportive. Very negative working environment. Work long hours without overtime pay. If you work here do not expect to travel on company product trips. They are used only for employees that management favors. No raises or chance for advancement.

Advice to Senior Management – Focus should be on advancement of employee morale and benefits. More positive reinforcement and environment.
