Mountain Air Duct Cleaning

I should have read reviews before calling this company. I cannot say enough bad things about this company and I'm glad I ultimately kicked the technician out of my house and did not allow him to perform any service. I called this company because of a Val-Pak offer: $7 per vent, 10 vent minimum, returns priced at $7 per as well. Main line prices vary but was told the cost would be between $25-$99 per. This seemed like a really good value and the ad stated they are family owned and operated, no subcontractors - I liked that last point a lot. With that said, I am expecting a job total of AT MOST ~$305 + tax ($70 for vents, $35 for returns, $198 for mains).

Ok, let me get the small superficial things out of the way first...

1) The tech was supposed to call before arriving, he did not.

2) He arrived in a beat up old SUV, not a company van like one would expect that houses the necessary equipment to perform this type of job.

3) Upon entering the house he did not take his shoes off.

Because of points 1 and 2 above, I was already very leery about the quality of the work that was about to be performed - what kind of equipment could he possibly have had in the back of his small beat up SUV?

Ok, now onto why I kicked the guy out of my house..

After I showed him the house, where all the vents and returns were located and took him to see the furnace and main trunk lines I asked him for a complete estimate as I knew the price of the mains were variable.. he said he had to perform an inspection first but the price per main would be between $129-$189! I told him that's not what I was told over the phone when making the appointment, he interrupted me, and told me I must have misheard or that the girl with whom I set the appointment with must have been new and didn't know what she was talking about and he proceeded to ramble on about how the cost was going to be determined - his tone at this point was unprofessional and we got into a bit of a verbal altercation and I expressed to him that I didn't appreciate being interrupted and that I was rightfully upset that I was told one price for the mains over the phone and was now being told a very different price. He became very argumentative and the verbal altercation continued. I asked him to leave as I did not want him performing any service due to the discrepancy in price and his attitude. He called me an *** and *** as I escorted him to the front door. When we got to the door he was still arguing and verbally insulting me, I told him to get the "F" out of my house, he stood there and stared me down and did not leave, so I once again told him to get out of my house or I was calling the police, he said to go ahead and call them and then he stepped out the front door turned back towards me and told me to "go ahead and hit me, I will..." I didn't catch the last part of what he said because I had slammed the door in his face.

I immediately called the company to speak with a manager to report the incident, she ultimately apologized and said she would speak with the owner about the incident, ...whooopty doo...

Afterwards, I proceed to check out reviews of this company and there are PLENTY of horror stories out there including some from former employees that really shed some light on just what kind of company this is. Boy do I wish I had done this prior to calling them, lesson learned I guess.

Bottom line: Don't be fooled by their marketing, they are NOT a family owned and operated company. They aren't even a bricks and mortar operation, they hire local "professionals" in metro areas and make them use their own vehicles to go from job to job.

Silver lining: I kicked the guy out of the house before he performed any work and now I get to share my experience with all of you and hopefully my extraordinarily poor experience will be enough for you to go with another company. If my story isn't enough, please do yourself a favor and read reviews and watch the YouTube video from one of their former employees so you can get a sense of the true nature of this company.

I live outside of Albany NY and received an estimate of $135 for 15 vents. And was told i would get a call for the date of service.

No call, they just appeared on Wednesday of April 2016. The first thing was the price went from $7 per vent to $29 per vent because of a confusing reason. So i agreed and they had 2 men that seemed to have no experience at all. They broke a vase and seemed so shady, i asked them to leave and i called in a local company from rensselaer, NY who came in and completed the job fast and clean and was very experienced.

They charged me $25 for each vent and showed me the results along the way. Dont rely on coupons or really low prices, they are scams

This company is engaged in SHADY – POSSIBLY CRIMINAL – CONSUMER DECEIT in Arizona!

I purchased 2 “LIVINGSOCIAL” VOUCHERS for my daughter and myself for MOUNTAIN AIR DUCT SERVICES @ $39 each for whole-house air duct cleaning for unlimited vents. The Voucher stated that “Over time, dust, contaminants, and allergens naturally build up in your house's duct system. Thankfully, the pros at this cleaning company are committed to thoroughly cleaning ducts for healthier air quality and happier homes.” I had checked the Mountain Air Duct Services Website with its assurance of 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, which sounded good.

When I tried to schedule the 2 appointments, the company answering the 1-87*-289-**** number on the voucher was NOT Mountain Air Duct Services, BUT “KDM Services LLC”, alias “Air Duct Cleaning Office” ( local tel. 480 994-**** or 994-****).

I was told they were Mountain Air Duct Services “ fulfillment office”.

Our first appointment was in the beginning of August, 2015.

The technician was from yet another company called PURE AIR SERVICES. My daughter was told that the voucher was only for “regular maintenance” and therefore did not apply to her dirty ducts. The cost of the “specialized cleaning” necessary would be more than $1,200!!! Ultimately my daughter, in panic over the health impact vividly explained by the technician in case she did not get the “specialized cleaning” done right away, agreed to a “special discount” of $550!

A few days later was my own voucher appointment. Again, a representative of PURE AIR SERVICES came who, after looking at my vents, gave me the exact same “spiel”: that the voucher was worthless, and a “special cleaning procedure” was needed. I requested a quote which he wrote up for $420! Forewarned by my daughter’s experience, I asked him to do the voucher-guaranteed service instead, to which he reluctantly agreed – and did very quickly. The “before and after” photos he supposedly took upon my request were never sent to me as promised.

Whether GROUPON or LIVINGSOCIAL or any other discount company and any INDIVIDUAL CUSTOMER: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH “MOUNTAIN AIR DUCT SERVICES” or “KDM Services LLC” or “PURE AIR SERVICES” – they are working hand in hand to trick the customer!!!

3-21-15 Contractor late for appointment. How disappointing to purchase 2 vouchers and NOT have all vents cleaned.

He took a machine upstairs, ran 15-20 mins. Came down with machine & asked where the dryer was–said he would clean dryer vent from outside. -But he never turned on machine. needed an outlet to plug into and I stood there & watched him put machine in his white truck and drive off.

vouchers for 2 intakes ($169.00 voucher) was to clean unlimited vents-he never touched my vents.

Reported to Michelle 480-994-**** & Mia and sent complaint to resolve issue. Purchased thru Living Social.

I had mountain air come to my home and the tech was there between scheduled time. He did an inspection and then explained the service and was very polite.

I had a few questions about the groupon the tech explained.

Then I accepted the additional services. The price was about what I payed before for whole house cleaning.

Although I made an appointment with Mountain Air Duct Services, on 1/6/15 ( 1 87*-289-*613), two men(from Morgan's ???? in Tulsa, OK) arrived to do a whole house air duct and dryer vent cleaning. However, NO cleaning was done.

One of the men inspected the furnace and air returns and said that no cleaning was required. No vents, no dryer vent, anything was cleaned. I paid for this service as well as treating all air passage interiors with EnviroCon (15 vents @ $10 each) and Sporicidin R (15 vents @ $15 each) to eliminate and control Mold/Mildew/Fugus and Dust Mite *** which seemed to have been done in one area only.

What is going on here? IS THIS A COME-ON BAIT & SWITCH SCAM??? I WILL WAIT UNTIL 1/8/15 FOR A REPLY AFTER WHICH I WILL CONTACT THE BBB AND OTHER CONSUMER AGENCIES REGARDING YOUR SO-CALLED BUSINESS PRACTICES!

It's a scam don't buy the groupon.. Technician came and told us nothing was covered by groupon and additional charges were $200.

He supposedly cleaned the dryer vent, which was included on the Groupon. The next day when I tried to do laundry the vent was completely clogged. My husband removed two bags of lint on what he could reach, and it's still clogged. This company put my family and surrounding townhouses in danger of fire......DON'T use them....

Now I'mm afraid what he did to my vents...

Afraid to put heat on. The guy was here for 2 hours and did nothing but put our family in danger

What a rip off from Groupon. The *** that came to our house was rude, threw things around, tried to sell us hundreds and hundreds of dollars of more services, and told us that what we purchased won't do anything. He actually said maybe he should come back when we could afford more!!!

I would NEVER buy from this company again or have them do ANYTHING for me or my family/friends.

Buyer BEWARE! This was a joke, a rip off and how dare this guy spend 10 minutes in my house throwing things around with an attitude and sickened that we purchased a groupon!

I recently bought a Groupon deal for an air duct cleaning and dryer vent cleaning from Mountain Air. After them rescheduling a few times, they finally showed up.

They guy that showed up was very in-enthused and looked bored out of his mind. He then used an air hose and blew at the air vents. This just caused the dust to stir-up and dirty my carpeting. He then blew on the dryer vent. It stirred up the dust about a foot into the vent and left dust on the floor. No vacuum was every used and nothing was cleaned.

Then he just left without saying anything. This whole process took him about 5 mins. He didn't have a vacuum or anything to actually clean the air ducts and dryer vent as the groupon indicates. He did offer to charge me $75 to blow off each additional vent.

This was absolutely a ripoff. I could have done a better job by just uses a wash cloth on the vent.

It's really not right for other people to be scammed.

Don't purchase the Groupon $39 whole-house cleaning scam. After several re-schedulings, the tech showed up in a pickup truck with a shop-vac.

He explained to my wife that, for some reason, the coupon was not valid for a whole duct system cleaning (As if he could do it with a shop-vac anyways...) based on some "technicality" about a 3rd party issuing the coupon (groupon), blah blah. I took the time to RE-read the "fine print" on the groupon certificate, and found it to be very straight-forward, with no language mentioning anything that remotely resembles some 'catch' that would make the transaction more understandable to not have received the service. The tech however, to his credit, was courteous, but ultimately this is a scam.

They made off with $39 minus the cost of gas for the pickup truck and the tech's hour of pay.

Really? Three appointments were made.

No show three times even though I called and confirmed each time.

I am through with them.

Calling the BBB and Groupon.

Yelp review going up as well.

I have tried to work with company all three times and they have not returned called or emails.

This company is a complete scam.

I am begging you to run away and find another company!

It is not worth it!

There are too many other companies that do this work and won't stand you up!

They low ball the price thinking they have your money and you will be disappointed when you waste 3 hours of your day waiting for a tech who never shows. We did this three times. It truly is pathetic.

In 2012, I also use the $39 coupon and they did clean all my vents including the dryer vent but did not see the camera as stated on the coupon nor did they use any brush. It was done very quickly.

The first time, the tech spotted mold and since I just purchased the home and I was having work performed, I bought into that I needed the work. It cost me over $400. I called them again the next year (2013) and this time I spent over $700 because the tech (who by the way smelled so bad) warned me that I had mold in my furnace due to the humidifier not being turned on and the coils were all black. In addition to that, my upstairs return has mold forming.

The $700 includes a two year warranty where I call them and they come in for free to clean out the vents. I called and was given an appointment in April and they never showed up. I have another appointment scheduled for June 3rd and will see if they show up. I figured since I don't pay for this, they are now trying to play games.

This is not a reputable company. DO NOT USE THEM.

We found a coupon for $39 for air duct cleaning & carpet cleaning for 3 rooms, we should have known this price is too good to be true. They came out with 2 guys in an old junkyard looking pickup truck and got in.

Even before opening one vent, the lead salesman told me that I need to clean the furnace and other stuff I couldn't understand and it will cost me $700 otherwise the regular cleaning would do nothing. Their coupon specifically says they "clean each duct to the furnace and back with rotating brushes", how would that not help??? I declined politely and told them to get off my property.

They don't do what they advertise and they are just scamers!!! BEWARE OF MOUNTAIN AIR DUCT SERVICES!
