Poor service

Had a Hybrid Fan Palm tree planted on 03/29/2021. The fronds were held together with straps to protect the heart of the tree. After 6-8 weeks the straps should be cut, releasing the fronds. I have been trying to get the straps cut since 05/06/2021, but William Finehage in customer service won't give me a schedule date which would complete this project. Moon Valley Nursery needs to follow up.

User's recommendation: Be careful when dealing with this company.

Worst General Manager and Customer Service EVER!

Update by user Aug 30, 2018

Wrote Emilio again stating there were four plants not three and wanted additional refund. No response whatsoever. Don't do business with this company at this location until he has been replaced would be my suggestion.

Original review posted by user Jul 31, 2018
Placed order with Emilio. When order was delivered it was missing two plants and two were returned because they were dead. Install crew was great. They called Emilio about the plants while they were here and told me to follow up. Forget about it. Emilio doesn't return calls, respond to texts or take care of his mistakes. I finally put a chargeback in to my credit card for the 4 plants plus a small amount of about $40.00 for the planting because I had to hire another landscaper to buy new plants and plants them for me. Somehow Emilio found the time to write the back and say I only bought 3 plants and gave me a partial refund. Bad customer service and crooks as far as I'm concerned. How he remains a general manager is far beyond me. Have never had such an awful experience with any company.

Moon Valley Nursery in Filmore - Totally non Responsive

Asked manager last year if they delivered to Santa Barbara, about 50 minutes away. She assured me they did. Went back this year sending the new manager Emilo photos of our garden area, advising we wanted to purchase several palms, a Grape Myrtle and some ground cover. Asked when we might make an appointment. Left six or eight messages without a response. These clowns advertise they are consumer friendly but my experience was the opposite. They are totally unprofessional. Look at the other negative reviews for their nursery. The reviews they show on their website are extracted from Yelp and they choose only the good ones. If you review the company, particularly from an independent review site, you see how unprofessional they are. Trust nothing they say, and beware ordering plants sight unseen.

The worst customer service

The only reason they got the 1 star it's because 0 is not an option. They took over 3 months to finally complete our yard which was not a big project by any means. After the initial purchase of plants and trees on the 7/5/2016 which was to be planted 2 weeks later, they finally sent the supervisor to only LOOK at the yard 3 weeks after purchase which he took note of what we wanted, which one VERY specific request that the landscape wasn't made flat but with mounds. They never showed up in the time frame which was suppose to be 2 weeks after they LOOKED at the yard to install the sprinkler. I called...."oh sorry we forgot to put you on the schedule". 1 more week ...OK sprinkler finally install. Then they came for the dirt and stones to shape the molding and prepare for planting ......one problem they made it flat! I called the supervisor he assured me that the issue would be corrected when they do the planting. NOT !!!!! again late for planting, they finally made it......the issue!?!? Guess what not corrected and then the passing of the buck started pointing fingers on who's job it was to shape the beds. Called the supervision inform me "I forgot to put it on the contract....it took 3 times and me calling because nobody showed up no one called inform me of delay. Finally the mounding was done 2 months 1/2 which was promised to be completed after 2 weeks. A few days later I noticed some plants were wilthering...they didn't program the sprinklers, some plant perked up after the water started. Some died. I went to Moon directly to explain the 2 shrubs dying ....they told me to choose their replacement which I did. 1 week later they were planting the new one.....they were not the one I have pick out...1 actually was already half dead....what do we have *** written on our forehead that we wouldn't notice?????. Call yet again... "oh I didn't put the plant you chose on the truck they did that themselves and picked them out" WTH. This week on Oct 13th should be hopefully the last time I have to deal with these people. The plants are guaranteed for 3 months .....a chunk of 2 months was taken away because of their *** around. The price of the sprinkler system and planting minus the trees and shrubs was suppose to be $2,000. Ended up costing us $3,900 without changing anything....shouldn't surprise you at this point obviously the left hand does know (or doesn't care) what the right does. All and all save yourself a lot of aggravation, money and time hire any other landscaping but this company. My conclusion is that they are getting too big of a company not caring for their customer, which the information gets lost easily. They are good company to purchase plants, shrubs, and trees...... salesmen.... but that's the extant of it

Resolved: They put 5 gallon fruit trees in 24 inch box containers and cheat you$$

Update by user Oct 07, 2015

So this morning they were suppose to deliver the 2 trees I went all the way to Riverside to pick out as an exchange for the tiny 2-3 year old trees they were palming off as 5-7 year trees. So the trees arrive.

They are the small ones from Chino. Not the ones I picked out in Riverside. They tried to tell me they were the trees from Riverside, but when I flipped over the tree description tag, it said Washington Navel. I picked out a Valencia.

So I ran back out to the truck and told them, these are NOT the trees I picked out. They got on the phone to Chino and said that the trees were still at Riverside that I picked out and they would have them delivered a little later. I called Riverside and spoke to a nice girl who wrote down everything I told her. That we had gone there on Saturday and picked out 2 trees, etc.

She did call me back and said that the Chino truck was there to pick up the trees and at first she couldn't find them, but I stayed on the phone with her and she finally found them. They were delivered about an hour later. The more I thought about it, the more I know Chino tried to pull a fast one. I don't know why they would do that.

But when I picked out the trees the first time, I knew I had gotten the last Valencia orange tree in the 24 inch box. So when they tried to deliver another batch of small 3 year trees, when it said Washington Navel, I knew it was from Chino and that someone told the help there to just go and pick out a orange tree and a tangerine tree.

Why would they try to do this bait and switch? I am very disappointed in Chino.

Moon Vally Nursery will price match. They say you get free planting, but actually you pay 166.00 per plant or more for them to dig the hole and plant the plant.

I would suggest if you go to them to purchase a tree that you pay to have it delivered and then go to home depot and get someone to dig the hole. The gimmick is...example. You buy 3 trees for 366.00 each, then you find it advertised from 175.00-200.00 each. Well, as long as you don't have them dig the hole, they will price match.

If they dig the whole they will tell you that the FREE planting fee is the difference between the price match and what you paid them. Example 366.00 Moon Valley price with Free planting. Sunshine nursery 200.00 no planting at all. So Moon Valley will tell you the free planting fee is 166.00 per tree.

If you pay 500.00 for a tree and Sunshine gets 200.00 for the same tree, again the Free planting fee is 300.00 per tree. Because the fine print says will price match plus services. So I would personally tell everyone to go to Sunshine Nursery, or Adam Hall Nursery and have it delivered and go to Home Depot, grab a day laborer and rent the tool to dig the hole. A lot cheaper.

Moon Valley sold me 2 plants in a 24 inch box, these 2 were smaller than 15 gallon size. How you know these were NOT 5-7 year trees as when they were planted, a normal 5-7 yr tree will keep it's shape while planting. These fell apart. Like pouring compost with a stick in it.

We spoke to the manager, who everyone is super, super nice. She agreed to replace these two plants. I asked for the price match since I was going to replant them. At first she was saying that they had already dug the hole, but finally gave me a store credit, plus told me to keep the tiny trees as they would probably die if they dug them up.

Plus she gave me 2 free fertilizers they sell. We had to drive to Riverside Moon Valley to pick out larger 24 inch box trees because the Chino location only had those tiny trees being sold as 5-7 years and no way, maybe 2-3 year. So it came close enough to satisfy me.

But I still would tell everyone, in fact I just told my friend who mentioned this nursery that will plant them for free. I told her, no, go to Sunshine in Ontario or Adam Hall in Morino Vally

I wouldn't recommend this place. We were in a hurry because the artificial grass installer wanted to finish the install, so we ran over to Moon Valley to purchase our fruit trees. The salesperson was very nice, but didn't know anything about fruit trees. We noticed that two of our trees in the 24 box size were about the size of a 5 gallon size plant, we asked when these had been planted from the 5 gallon into this 24 box container, again, deer in the headlight look, no answer. Anyway, you can tell when a plant has been recently transferred when they go to install it and all the dirt falls away during the transfer and the only compacted part is the 5 gallon or 15 gallon amount of dirt. Which is what happen with the 2 smaller plants. So even though they give you a discount if you purchase 3 fruit trees at a time. We know we were screwed big time on these two tiny trees. You can also tell, when they are being held up with a tiny metal spike rather then a big wood tree stick. Everyone is nice, those golf carts are always out of order or drive like a Disneyland ride. If I had had the time I would have gone to Adams Nursery in Morino Valley. And the 90 day warranty speaks for itself. Sad that companies run their businesses like this. I'd tell everyone to go someplace else...

I think everyone should know about the sleezy, incompetant, dishonest and lying factor about this company......... sure, they brag about how big they are...........

that catches your interest, with all the advertising! If you don't care about your money go ahead and go there. I had the misfortune of working for them for 5 years.......... I've been in the nursery business for 30 years and I've never had to go to meetings where they tell you how to act, how to feel, how to think, what to say on the phone in order to get people in the store so they can be screwed by salespeople when they come in.

I even saw a comment from the district manager of Moon Valley pretending to be a "happy customer"......... Sal Bracale..... look up his name on the comments........................ If that's not dishonesty, I don't know what is!

Buyer beware.......... do not throw your money away..........

you will be screwed in the end........ former employee.

And also, they love to hire new recruits that don't know anything about the nursery business "young kids/even managers" but try to train/ "brainwash" them into thinking that they are now part of the "nursery business"? Ask them about botanical names of plants and trees......

they just don't have a clue! Of course, they all work on commission, it's worse than the worst used car lot on the planet! Employees lined up in the parking lot waiting to pounce on you before you even enter the store...... Employees stealing sales from other employees with the help of corrupt managers!

Phone training seminars to avoid giving you accurate answers but to try to get you into the store so they can "work a number on you"! Too bad the whole company is a big "klusterphuk" and getting bigger and the honest nurseries are not well known. There are better nurseries out there with much better prices...........

believe me!

I used to work there for 5 years and I have been in the nursery business for 30 years! All I can say that it is the most greediest, untruthful, "trying to get everyone's money possible", dis-honest managers, even more dis-honest district managers who state in company meetings that "Our adds are meant to confuse the f;;ck out of everyone".

Please don't believe in "How Big They Describe Themselves"!! There are other nurseries with less than half the price of they're trees.

Please don't fall for they're B.S.! Have a nice day!
