Broken Promises: A Nightmarish Experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

TL;DR: Ordered a dresser expecting delivery by June 15, but faced zero communication and repeated delays. Despite promises of updates and quality restoration, the dresser arrived late and in poor condition.

A partial refund ($275) was issued, but Im left with a significant financial loss ($2,160) and an unusable piece. Mod City needs to drastically improve its communication and uphold its promises.

I recently had a truly horrible experience with Mod City Madness, and I hope my story serves as a cautionary tale for potential customers. Here's a detailed overview:

Order and Communication:

On May 17, I ordered a dresser with an expected delivery on or before June 15, as promised by Eva Goldfarb from Mod City. There was a complete lack of communication from Mod City even though the website promises: we keep you updated throughout with progress photos and communication.

Delivery Issues:

I was charged for the delivery of my dresser on June 10, but heard nothing from them until I reached out on June 17.

Despite my efforts to set a delivery date with Jason from a third-party service, I encountered a series of miscommunications, lack of responses to my texts, a late-night delivery proposal (after 11 pm), and three reschedule requests from Jason. Eventually, my dresser was handed off to another person for delivery, well beyond the promised date. However, my request for a refund seemed to expedite the process. Within an hour of sending the request, my dresser was suddenly out for delivery with an ETA of one hour.

Unfortunately, I was not home, as no prior notice had been given. After some back and forth with a new delivery person, Daniel, we managed to agree on an afternoon delivery. Daniels professionalism was a highlight amidst this ordeal, but the condition of the dresser was deeply disappointing.

Quality Concerns:

Upon inspection, the dresser did not meet the restoration standards described on Mod City's website. According to their site: When you choose the restored optionwe address imperfections such as lacquer finish failure, chips, water marks, and deep scratches.

Our team sands, stains, and seals each surface Each item is thoroughly cleaned, structurally checked, and restored with the same care and attention to detail weve built our reputation on Moreover, in an email Eva Goldfarb mentioned the integrity of their business and their pride in the work we do.

However, the dresser I received had many issues:Two large chips on the right sideVisible drips of stain on the right sideMultiple areas refinished in a different color brown with a matte finish instead of the glossy finish shown in the original picturesChips on multiple drawers and a large scratch along the top of one drawerThe dresser arrived absolutely filthy and needs intensive cleaning plus polishing

Restoration and Refund:

Despite assurances of regular updates and progress photos, communication was nonexistent until I raised concerns. No action was taken at all until I requested a refund. When I finally received a partial refund of $275, it came without explanation and was less than half of the restoration fee I paid. I am now faced with a dresser that is unusable in my home, as I will not invest in another costly restoration.

Therefore, I will have to sell it myself or through a consignment store, which will certainly result in a significant financial loss.

Final Thoughts:

While a partial refund was issued, it fell far short of addressing the full extent of the issues.

I would have rated the experience one star, but Daniels excellent service and the partial refund warranted two stars. I truly hope Mod City will significantly improve its communication and quality standards for future customers.
