Verified ReviewerHeads up
You think BofA is bad and Wells Fargo is worse. You think that a local credit union will treat you better.
Think again.
I switched to Mission-Fed Credit Union after being fed up with my long time banking institution, North Island Credit Union. North Island Credit Union had been pushing, very hard, for me to switch my checking account to an on-line only account, which was not for me. Then they cut back on additional services; like an in-house investment consultant that was on premises every day, they thinned out the number of tellers at the windows, and they closed some locations.
Thinking that Mission-Fed might be better, or as good as North Island Credit Union used to be, I waited for my checks to run out and made the switch.
This is what you can expect from Mission-Fed:
If you like receiving paper statements and at some point decide to look up your account on-line, for any reason, you will be automatically dropped from the paper statement delivery and reduced to on-line access only. If you want it or not.
The only way to have paper statement delivery resume, is to travel to Mission-Fed Credit Union and ask to have the service reinstated. Yes, every single time you use the on-line service, you will have to travel and beg for reinstatement. They will not let you have access to both.
In the world of on-line banking, where you can deposit a check just by taking its picture, Mission-Fed is in the weeds. If you do not endorse your check for deposit at a Mission-Fed ATM, something that used to be necessary for banking, like, a 100 years ago, Mission-Fed will refuse your deposit in their ATM.
Yes, only their ATM. If you deposit in a non Mission-Fed ATM, there is no issue. I did not endorse 2 checks, so Mission-Fed sent copies back to me for endorsement. In the meantime, they charged me fees for overdrafting several times, that the amounts of the checks that they refused to deposit would have more than covered.
My Mission-Fed moment came when my Mission-Fed debit card was hacked 20 times, but no one noticed.
But when I tried to purchase something for several hundred dollars in a place where I do not normally shop, the card was closed under suspicion of fraud. I called to have the card reactivated a number of times.
Instead of simply denying that sale for suspicion of fraud, Mission-Fed will cut you off from access to your money until you call and identify yourself. You better have cash on hand.
If your Mission-Fed banking account is hacked, and money is stolen, Mission-Fed will charge you overdraft, even after the amounts have been reported as fraudulent and are in the process of being refunded.
Be aware.

Mission Federal Credit Union Placing 5-DAY HOLDS on CASH DEPOSITS
I stopped by Mission Federal Credit Union on Saturday May 10th, 2014 with the intention of making some financial transactions. The ATM offers the option of making a "CASH" deposit without the use of an envelope. I proceeded to make a CASH DEPOSIT, going through the prompts, until I finished my transaction.
On my transaction receipt, I noticed that I had not received "FULL CREDIT" for the "CASH" deposit I had just made and after a few minutes realized that the bank had put a "5-DAY HOLD" on over 40% my deposit. (Mind you that through the many prompts NOT ONCE was I informed of a potential "HOLD" on this deposit.) I tried to contact the bank without success because they close "EARLY" on Saturdays -- a full 3 hours before every other bank.
Today, Monday May 12th, 2014, I called the bank to inquire about the "5-DAY HOLD" on a "CASH" deposit. They informed me that this is the result of an ATM Rollout Issue BUT that once this "rollout" is finished they would begin to honor CASH deposits on the same day as IT SHOULD BE DONE... I expressed my frustration to the representative and she agreed that it was absurd the institution would hold a CASH deposit.
She proceeded to release "HALF" of MY FUNDS (NOT THEIRS) and that I would have to call back on Wednesday to see if they would do me the "FAVOR" of releasing the OTHER half... :-)
Does anyone think this is borderline THEFT by the institution regardless of company policy???
