Mini Of Knoxville
Gear Shift
We bought my daughter a Mini Cooper,to drive back & forth from college, which is a 3 hour drive. The safety ratings were good, saves a lot in gas, easy to drive etc.
However the car doesn’t even have 100.000 miles on it yet & the car has been babied, very well taken care of. However the gear shift has been sticking in Park,it worked for a little while, pushing the brake in a little more firm, pressing the gear shift a little more firm,or taking the keys out, letting it sit for a minute & then retrying. The issue is not the transmission, the issue is in the gear shift. A new gear shift is $600.00 not including the labor. This is a common issue in these vehicles,I feel like this should be a factory recall .
When I spoke with the Mini dealer, which was a woman...she was very rude!!! I will never purchase another anything made by Mini or BMW! Overpriced & they fall apart, then when you have a issue, they are rude & way overpriced!!! We researched some tube videos to see if anybody else was having this issue & it was full.
Apparently there is a plastic tool that Mini installed that you are suppose to use to pick up on something, after you remove the leather cover around the gearshift. If I wanted some POS that you have to do some kind of redneck engineering, I certainly wouldn’t have went to the Mini dealership.

I dont understand the complaint. Maybe get a job so you can afford to fix your car? Nothing is free.
