To prevent other potential customers from making the same mistake we did.

Midwest Pool Builders and Stonecrafters - To prevent other potential customers from making the same mistake we did.
Midwest Pool Builders and Stonecrafters - To prevent other potential customers from making the same mistake we did.
Last spring 2021, we contracted with them for a pool. When the pool arrived, it was dumped on our front lawn, because the crane operator could not bring it down between our house and trees, etc. As we watched the crane operator tear up our lawn and the road in front of our lawn, in a futile attempt, Terry Harr had one comment: "If I had seen this layout, I would have never sold you a pool" It was his wife, a couple months earlier that sold us the pool! Later, Terry lied and said they weren't wrong to hire the crane. Yet 3 weeks later, when it was finally moved, they brought more people power and a small front loader and moved it to the hole they had dug. There it sat, in *** of mud, for the next 4 months, as they ignored us with excuses, after having received over $60,000. By the end of October, we had enough lies, we disengaged them, and hired Custom Pool LLC out of Belleville, IL, who were life savers - completed the job, including all surrounding concrete work before winter weather. We'll never reclaim the money we lost, but at least we can warn others. Terry, his wife and daughter are the "team", and they act like they're trapped in a hopeless business. They are mean spirited and seem dysfunctional. After walking away with our money, they sent me an attorney's letter to sign, to agree that we would never speak negatively about them. I didn't sign it. I hope they survive by finding employment elsewhere.

Cons:
  • Horrible customer relations and service and poor workmanship
  • Poor business practices

Preferred solution: The satisfaction of being a force for good so that no one else makes the mistake of hiring them. Out of the 60K we paid them, we did get a pool that by itself cost around $30,000.

User's recommendation: Run, do not walk, from any contract with Midwest Pool Bldrs and Stonecrafters

Terrible shoddy concrete work!

After a 5 month wait Midwest Pool Builders and Stonecrafters finally did the cement work around my pool. It is awful and totally unacceptable. I would be so embarrased to have done this bad of a job. When I told them I was unhappy with the concrete work I was called INSANE and told to quit complaining and enjoy my pool. They are now telling me there is nothing they can do to fix it. I would NEVER EVER recomend this pool co.

Warning Scam Owner

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Hello, This complaint is regarding shoddy installation and work performed by Midwest Pool Builders & Stonecrafters located at 3467 Summerlyn Dr St. Louis MO 63129 and owned/work performed by Terry Harr. I am seeking restitution for $38,780 or work performed to be completed correctly! This dollar amount comes from pricing out the corrective actions needing to fix the situation including custom concrete, leveling pool, fixing broken pipelines, and labor to make the install complete and correct. I am a patient person, never complained once while it took over 8 months to complete what was promised to be a 2-3-month job but I am now frustrated beyond belief. The install of the pool is even as the water is unlevel to the side by 1inch+. I also have severe leakage on part of the install located by tanning bed. The final grievance is that I had Terry Harr, the owner himself, winterize the pool which was not done properly and now have broken underground pipes. Terry himself said he would make it right and do the corrective work which required busting up and replacing concrete to make things level, non-leaking, and pipes operational, but that was in April 2018 and this is June 2019. Midwest/Terry will not return my phone calls and has been avoiding me. As previously stated, I am seeking what was promised and paid for or the moneys returned to me so I can have the work done properly by a reputable company. I have been swindled not only out of the memories with my family due to the dysfunctional pool install, but also monetarily out of tens of thousands of dollars of money already paid to Midwest/Terry. Sincerely, John J. Hogan
