MGR, based on my experience, is a scam. I went in for my meeting with both the husband and wife who run this agency.

Supposedly they are SAG franchised, however, I hope SAG will reconsider allowing this agency to be SAG, based on their deceptive practices.

I am not yet SAG, which I completely understand, however they stated they do represent nonunion talent as well. When I spoke with them they said their roster was full and could not accommodate me for representation as non-union. HOWEVER... they then offered that they could indeed represent me as a non-union actor if I would pay them $150 and sign a Model/Talent representation contract.

Wait... There's no room on the roster. But... there is room once I pay $150 and sign a contract?

Here's why...

With SAG it would be illegal to directly charge money for the representation, but this is not illegal under the auspices of model representation. While it seems straightforward at first blink...

The deception is what deeply troubled me. The suggestion ghat they have no room for me, but if I pay them then they do have room cor me on the 'closed' roster.

This is not an appropriate ethical business practice.

Horrible experience

I am a SAG working actor with Representation in NY, LA, ATL, CHI, &;;;;;; TX. I was looking for an agent in NM.

I have apts or rooms that I rent in each market as well. I sent in my Info and heard from the wife half. She was happy to rep me and I told her I was in ATL filming but would be back in town the next week and would love to meet in person to sign up. She was fine with this.

Then the husband emails me and says they are not interested. I called and he said since I didn't want to sign up immediately that I was serious or professional. They only wanted to work with seriously committed actors. What he was really saying is that if I'm not willing to jump when they said yes then he figures I was still shopping.

I wasn't but that's their loss. I've heard from others who feel these two are in the wrong business.

A local SAG rep I spoke to would only recommend the O, Mitchell and associate's or Presley as good reputable agencies to apply with. This was over a year ago so that may have changed but ill stay away from MGR.

Resolved: Mgr Talent Agency - Acting Service Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I went in seeking representation as a SAG Actor... This place is run a husband/wife christian duo.

Well I shouldn't say "run by"... it's just he two of them. They very oddly made it clear to me at the beginning of the interview that their company is "God's Company"! No place for that in a professional environment, right?

I was uncomfortable with the idea of telling them I was not a christian. It was such a peculiar way to start an interview. While Mellisa Morehead read over a lunch menu for nearly the entire interview, Otis, her husband did the talking... All the stars they discovered and money they've made...

Yet, they were so vague and didn't mention any particular film or project... Just look at their very rarely updated faebook page at the vague posts https://www.facebook.com/MGR-Talent-Agency-LLC-149180****794538 They told me they discovered a girl at Macy's department store and turned her into a star! (clearly this was their pitch and not very clever or well delivered). They then pushed me for a 140 dollar fee to upload my picture to their website.

Couple that with the Christian thing, I felt like I was at some christian revival. Salvation in the acting world was mine if I gave them 140 bucks!!!! Others were waiting in the lobby and imagine otis and mellisa could clean up getting 140 bucks from several people a day! They did not ask me for my resume or experience...

They only asked my name and then asked for 140 bucks. It was so skectchy I decided not to pay and left. I'm writing this to share my experience and glad I had the sense to not join. I think it is unacceptable behavior.

I've heard of others who did join and were dropped shortly after paying them. Take heed! Better off looking ligitimate agencies in Santa Fe and ABQ...

O'Agency, Mitchell and Presley are all reasonable people. They wont make you pay any money or tell you they are starmakers or make you feel uncomfortable for not being part of their RELIGION!

This person is mad because we did not select him for our agency he was not a good fit as well as we had to release his wife for inappropriate conduct and is very bitter our company may not be a good fit for everyone. Also the facts are not completely accurate so please do your due diligence reviewing all the facts as well as for sag people the website fee is only $40 not a hundred and forty so not very truthful on his end and it's not mandatory

Haha! You two are almost comical!

You tell me in this comment I wasn't a good fit, and then your husband says below it was my choice not to join. I can tell this is melisa because of your maniacal lack of punctuation. Otis lacks it too, but is more subdued in his expression. I have my choice of agency and I'm doing just fine, thank you!

I'll only reply to this comment, because Otis is clearly milquetoast and under your thumb. You should both consider getting on the same page. Punctuation would help too.

I did have empathy for your behavior at the interview when Otis pulled us aside in the hall and asked us to forgive your despondency for you recently had a miscarriage. I am very sorry about that still and must be a terrible thing to endure...

But you still carry on and treat people poorly. Even as a non-christian I know that is not very christian.

Seriously, leave your insane religious jargon at home. Nobody cares about your religious views.

I complain because your conduct is fraudulent and I consider it my duty in an industry fraught with *** to report it.

You are part of that problem. You steal from people and have nothing to offer them. Also, I joined the union to protect me from "agencies" like yours, so I consider it essential that I share my experience. You are unworthy of SAG enfranchisement.

Yes, it was 40 dollars for my picture to be put on your actors website and then you push 100 more dollars to be on a "modeling" website. It is the same website! Telltale signs of fraud.

I'll stop now because it is apparent you are unstable and your "agency" has no wind in its sails and will soon sink.

We are the owners of mgr talent agency seems like this person completely had a misunderstanding of our interview and is totally misled about accurate information if you cannot handle professional environment with people's own views feel free to not do business with our company. like you did! to complain this type of matter is only a way of you trying to defend a certain situation where you were not mature enough to handle good luck to you and your career this is not a free ride it is an investment in people's futures we do pay for employees, buildings as well as there is no free cost of a web page that we have to pay someone to build .

Can't you pay for those things by getting them work?
