Verified Reviewer |Sugar, dye, aspartame, and maltodextrin across the whole line
- - Psyllium is fine; the additives are the issue.
- - Real Sugar version has 16g sugar and Yellow No. 6.
- - Sugar Free adds aspartame, Yellow 6, and maltodextrin.
The psyllium itself is fine. Everything P&G adds to it is the problem.
The Real Sugar version of Metamucil packs about 16 grams of sugar per serving plus FD&C Yellow No. 6, a petroleum derived dye, and artificial flavor. The Sugar Free version swaps in aspartame, keeps the Yellow 6, and adds maltodextrin, an ultra processed starch that spikes blood sugar, in a product that advertises supporting healthy blood sugar levels.
Even Premium Blend, the "natural" option with plant based stevia, lists maltodextrin as its second ingredient, and it tastes noticeably worse than the others. Premium price, natural marketing, same processed shortcuts.
- Psyllium fiber itself works
- Added sugar
- And artificial dyes in a basic fiber product
- Aspartame
Preferred solution: P&G should drop the sugar, aspartame, and artificial dyes from a basic fiber
User's recommendation: If you want plain psyllium, buy plain psyllium.
