If you value your money and want to keep it. DO NOT give it to MemberOne!
I moved here and needed a local bank account and MemberOne was close to me so I opened an account. My mistake for not looking doing my research. I have never seen such poor reviews. You think you can trust Financial Institutions to keep your money safe.
Most of the time you can, but not with MemberOne.
They are a disgrace to all the hard working nice people here in the NRV. I think they must of came here from the DC swamp.
- Yes they are cons
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Boycott MemberOne

The worst ever! They let frauds steal your money from them and then they refuse to give it back or hold it for ransom. I will never do business with them again.
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Go elsewhere.
Closing debit card without warning
I have had several issues with Member One throughout the years; mostly involving them cancelling or blocking my debit account due to fraudulent charges. I do totally understand why they would do this, however, NONE of the times this has happened have I been contacted to let me know what was going on.
Today I went to use this card to buy dinner and groceries and discovered that my card was blocked. I contacted card services and tried to verify these charges with someone the first time; one of which I was not sure of because they could not tell me the amount. So the lady cancelled my card and informed me I would have to call or go to a branch to get a new card THIS IS ALL UNDERSTANDABLE. I was throughly confused after my first call and decided to call back.
This time I got Lynn. I explained calmly what happened and told her I was confused and would like to go back over those transactions with her to better understand why this was happening because I have no access to money until MONDAY when the branched open. Lynn was so condescending, rude, and belittling the entire call. I finally got fed up with how she was talking to me, asked for her name, and told her I will go to a branch and close my account with member one SOLELY because she was so rude.
Ive dealt with other rude employees throughout the years but after this frustrating encounter, I AM DONE. Dont bank with them, it is wayyyyy more trouble than its worth.
User's recommendation: DO NOT USE
I want my money back
The credit union owes me money and stole my car and refuse to fix my credit or pay me the money they owe me!
- Steal your money
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN
I want my money back
Embezzled my money for a year refuses to give my money back or answer the line. Went through BBB but they didn't help because she was being bribed by the credit union.
- Remove s money with out permission
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: Use it at own risk
Be aware!
Be aware! It is the policy of this credit union to allow any owner of an account close the account without the other owners knowledge.
This happened to me. The other owner closed the account taking every dollar out of it.
The bank account justified the allowance of these actions stating that any owner can make adjustments or close the account without the knowledge of any other owner of the same account. Tread carefully with this financial institution!
Preferred solution: Let the company propose a solution
User's recommendation: Tread carefully!

Avoid at all costs! I needed to move money over to pay for gas and food because of lock-down and they charged me $30 for NSF saying they don't transfer money to other banks!
I only have a saving account because the NEAREST branch is an HOUR away, my job uses this bank so I have no other choice!
NOW they're refusing to refund any all fees! THIEVES!!
- Direct deposit
- Atm fees
- 5 charge to transfer money out of bank
- 7 to 10 days for deposits to clear
Preferred solution: Full refund
Run and get a another bank
I totaled my car 11/12/19. Gieco paid MOFCU over $12000 on the car loan.
I contacted this bank and let them know I have GAP insurance. I was told to hold off on the payment. Next thin I know I am getting notices that my late payment will go against my credit & they TOOK the payment out of my account. I called and reminded them I had GAP insurance and was told not to make payments.
The woman on the phone was extremely rude when I told her I have an attorney and I would let him know MOFCU took money without permission. She reversed that payment and in a snide tone said "I'm still reporting this as a late payment to the credit bureau and late fees will be added and GAP won't pay for that." I reported this to BBB and I plan on reporting this branch to the board of directors of MOFCU, the CEO and Department of Consumer affairs. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS BANK THEY ARE CROOKS.
I tried not giving any stars but they make it mandatory to give at least one. I plan on blasting my social media accounts with this customer service 6 thousand people will be aware of this with one post.
- Removes money from accounts without notification or permission
Preferred solution: Wait for the GAP payment as agreed. Reverse negative credit and remove late fees
Never get a car loan with member one
My mother has a car loan with member one since 2014 there were at times when she fell a month behind but got it caught up and current the next month. At 1 time she was actually paid ahead 2 months.
When those 2 months were up she was now current. So she makes her payments but somehow member one says she is 2 months behind. So in February 2018 she made a double payment because she had a little extra money. March she made her payment april she made her payment may and june as well.
She gets a letter in the mail stating she 42 days past due. How is that even possible with all the payments and extra payments she made. So my mom calls customer service and is talking to Miranda who tells her she owes for June and now July. The next customer service person Taylor a supervisor of sorts tells her no she owes for may jun and now july and she had to make at least 1 pmt by August 1 and then the other 2 by the 3rd of August.
So she called the consumer protection agency and explained what was going on they told her they broke several of the consumer debt law. Oh and they still have her dead husband on the loan as the main person even though he passed away in 2015. When she called in tbe 1st to make her pmt Miranda refused to accept the pmt she said they all had to be made at the same time . My mon told her that is not what Taylor told me she said welk i don't know what to tell you.
So my mother called back to the consumer protection agency and they did a conference call with the agency that over sees credit unions and they got her a lawyer. The lawyer told her they can not refuse to take a payment. So she called back on the 3rd to make the payment they again Miranda refused to take her payment that was the full amount. The lawyer told her by law she only had 2 make 2 payments not 3.
She told the lawyer they refused her payment again and said they were going to start repossession procedure. However the consumer protection law says that a bank can not refuse a payment and repossess the car it also states if they accepted late payments before they also could not repossess the car. So they have violated several of the banking laws along with the consumer protection laws. When my mom told Miranda that she has an attorney and told her how she got him and the name her response was you will be hearing from our attorneys today.
So my mom called her lawyer and told him he said good give them my name and number needless to sat no one called her. But now she is worried that her car will get repossessed and she will lose her job..
I have heard this same type of story from several people. My advice never deal with Member One..
Check hold
Needed money so I took out a loan from my 401K plan.. They could not direct deposit the funds into Member One Federal Credit Union because of MOFCU not being part of a fraud protection program.
1st red flag.. Finally get the paper check. Take and deposit it. Only to be told MOFCU put 10 business day hold on it..
In this time of Electronic transactions they will have the money within 24 hours. But still hold it from me.. When I ask customer service why they got to use my money for 10 days I was informed of they don't use your money.. What a lie.
Once my check clears it will be withdrawn and the account closed..
Never again will I use these people. Customer service is just rude..
MEMBER ONE FCU FROZE MY ACCOUNT
Totally agree. The same thing happened to me.
I had never had a problem with them before, all of a sudden they started freezing my accounts so I had no access to my money. I could not log into my account on line, I could not use my debit card, I could not withdraw my money from the Branch office. They demanded money I pay 2 months on a loan that I was only 1 month behind on before they would unfreeze my account. I was one month behind because I had been paying the loan on line and checking minimum payment.
The minimum payment IS NOT THE ACTUAL correct amount. It was 68 cents less than the actual amount so they had been charging me $25.00 late payment fee every month. Customer service told me "Well you are suppose to round up.
When making a payment." Worst experience ever! Complaining how rude and unhelpful these people were, would take a book...
Member One Federal Credit Union Auto Financing Review from Salem, Virginia
Purchased new vehicle from dealership, Nissan. Sales person called my insurance company (I already had 1st car insured) to Add New Vehicle.
Member One was also called before leaving the dealership. After two months Member One started sending me letters stating I needed to verify insurance, I called them and faxed a copy to the number provided in the letter sent to me. A month later I had to have my insurance agent fax verification, not once but two different times. Meantime, Member One has charged over 4,000 for lack of insurance.
I thought it was the insurance company's fault. I'm thinking, this can't be real. I switched Insurance Co. After 6 months, Member One Continuously sent letters to me stating I needed insurance.
After a year and a half they finally said "no further information needed" After receiving five faxes of my insurance verification, emails from myself and insurance agent! Member One has refused to reimburse any of the money they fraudulently took from me, hasn't been deducted from my loan.
I'm not the only one either, I've seen letters, from co workers, that this same thing has happened to! Be Aware!

Letter I sent member one explains everything for future consumers! Read below!
I'm notifying you that I am writing a formal complaint via e-mail, mail and any and every website that will allow me to post a complaint. My bank account ending in 46 was overdrawn due to a fraud situation. As I am unable to prove the fraud and I was also using the card number as I had it memorized - I realize I am responsible for the debts on this account. I was working to set up a payment plan and had sent payments on the account as well. All of a sudden I noticed a payment of $25 coming out of my account ending in 42 to pay the debt to the 46 account. Less than two weeks later another payment of $50 came out of my 42 account to pay the 46 account. I was never made aware of the charge that would occur to my account. I called on 3 different occasions to set-up a payment plan only to reach the voicemail of Linda Oliver. I work 12 hour shifts in the ER so 1. It's impossible to reach me during YOUR business hours and 2. It's impossible to reach me in the ER as I'm obviously working with patients.
I called my final time this week to ask why the $50 was being taken out of my account without my permission. I was told since I had funds that any amount at any time could be withdrawn to take care of a debt. I said fine, I would withdraw all my funds until a could set up a payment plan. I had $490.00 in the bank at that time. On 3/22 Memberone took all my funds except for $76.00. I called in and was transferred to Linda Oliver - finally a live person! However, it was too late, all my money was gone to pay the account in debt and I was told since I told "Brittany" I was going to withdraw the money from my account that they went ahead and took all my funds to pay the negative account.
Let me just ask how much sense this makes? If I obviously did not have bills coming out of my other account I would have paid the negative balance. However, I had been sending payments via Paypal as well as Memberone taking my funds from my account to pay for the negative balance. So it apparently it makes perfect sense to you to debt the account were the bills are coming from and make that account go into debt to take care of another debt??? Seriously??? And why was I not contacted via phone by someone to set up a payment arrangement? I received mail and replied to the mail via phone and attempted to set up a payment plan.
I was referred to Memberone by 7 different people that lived in Lynchburg, VA. I was told this was an EXCELLET credit union. I was with a bank and wanted to experience a credit union - WHAT A HORRIBLE IDEA THAT WAS. Now the Memberone credit union in Virginia Beach is closing and almost every single person I work with states what horrid customer service the Beach Branch had and how many miserable situations they've had with Memberone. This is my 6th problem with Memberone so far. I won't go into each and every issue as some of them were misunderstandings between the branch and I.. which obviously could happen when a particular teller felt it more important to be on their cell phone than assist me in my transactions. I hated going into your Virginia Beach Branch of that very reason. The only teller in that place that had customer service and common sense was Krystal.
Just know this is the WORST experience I've ever had and now my 42 account is in the basic same, if not more, debt that the other account was in.
OH and I was sent to a collection agency without any phone calls from you asking to set up a payment plan as well.
