AI Highlights
  • - Case opened to cancel; no reason given.
  • - Told it can't be closed; device return issue.
  • - No non-phone contact; site login link not received.

The original case was opened to cancel the account. Probably, becasue I had called to cancel service.

There is no explanation confirming the reason for the case. I keep getting calls that my device isn't activated, which of course it is not because I cancelled the service. Yesterday I spent 45 minutes on the phone being transfered and on hold. I was told my account can't be closed because I haven't returned the device and didn't pay for it originally.

I have proof that full payment was made. They have not provided me with a process to communicate with them other than by phone.

Which is repeatedly a horrible expereince and one of the many reasons why I canceled. There seems to be an option to log onto their site but there is never a receipt of a password setup link.

User's recommendation: Beware

Because they billed me when I said to cancel order

AI Highlights
  • - I did not want to renew, but they charged $700 after placing the order.
  • - They asked for postage and certified mail; I asked for a label, but did not receive it.

told them I did not what to renew, and they went ahead and placed the order and charge me $700.00. I put them in dispute with bank, and the bank said they are not responding.

then went back to co. ad they what there equipment, back, they wanted me to pay for postage and send certified. I asked for a mailing label instead, because I did not want to pay all the charges.

I still did not get the label; something is fishy. carol schulman

They are Money Grabbers

AI Highlights
  • - Mistaken call to a number similar to Amazon led to a $49.99 charge; refund promised in 48-72 hrs but not received; shows Med Alert, Norfolk VA.

The phone number is very similar to Amazon customer service number. Due to that reason I mistakenly called 188*-***-**** and was quickly transferred to some recording congratulating me on qualifying for a free Med Alert device.

Whe someone finally got on the phone they kept telling me that the device was completely free and mentioned that I will be just paying for the shipping. Once I gave my card info they immediately took $49.99 off my card. I promptly told them that I could not afford to pay that price at the moment. The representative put me on hold for a few minutes and then told me that the money would be returned to the original payment within 48-72 hrs.

That time has since passed and the money hasn't been returned yet. I have called back and have not been able to speak with a person yet. I will keep calling before I contact my bank.

The transaction shows up as Med Alert. It states that the company is based out of Norfolk VA.

User's recommendation: Please do not believe people when they tell you that something is free and make sure it is a legitimate business before you provide your payment information to them.

AI Highlights
  • - BBB claim filed; six calls before noon.
  • - Calls persisted after the corporate office; per attorney and BBB, records are being kept to pursue a lawsuit.

I have opened a claim with the better business bureau, Today alone you have called me 6 times and it is not even noon. I would never use your company for that very fact, I called your corporate office and I still get the calls. Per my attorney and the BBB, I am keeping official records now to pursue a lawsuit.

Loss:
$600
Cons:
  • Cancellation upon death lack
  • 6 months later had to closed cc account to avoid charges
  • Sucks

Preferred solution: Stop calling me.

User's recommendation: Do not use. My mother passed away and it took me 6 months to stop billing me. I had to finally cancel my CCard. Never received a refund.

Deceptive up-selling and no support

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • - Line tested; promised email info never arrived; no reply.
  • - Billing: $22.95 vs $19.95; cord missing; test mode failing.

First Medical Alert (MA) tested our phone line and it worked. MA was going to send me the info via email. I received an email but nothing was included so I emailed him back but he never responded. He did tell me they work on commission and to call him if we wanted one.

Called a week later and they tested the phone line again and it will work. We ordered a device for $19.95 month, 1 month free if we pay for 1 year advance. We also paid for expedited delivery ($219.45 + $25 for delivery).

The device was received but was missing phone cord so they gave us 1 month credit. Then I discovered that they started charging us as of the date of order, not when we got it working. Once I got the phone cord and tried it, it did not work once put in test mode (kept saying emergency) and there was no one at the service number. I asked for a return call when they open at 8am.

No one called me back. So I called and the first person I talked to did not understand what I was saying that it was not working. Called back again and we went through the setup and it is not working. She asked about cell service since I was on my cell phone. She said she would send us overnight, no charge, a cellular one. I asked about monthly fee and she said it would be the same $19.95.

They are not charging what as promised but $22.95; and every time we put it in test mode to test the device, it is not in test mode. I suggest they put a service call in and no one ever calls back. They also send the bill to the wrong address even though we were very clear where we wanted the bill sent.

Bottom line, they upcharged us when the device did not work even with 2 test working and we agreed to $19.95. Very deceptive, dishonest, and unprofessional. The device test never works as a test but as a Help call so the device is still defective. No one ever calls from service to solve the problem.

Cons:
  • Upselling
  • Not working correctly

Preferred solution: Priced as promised and test mode fixed
