Media Breakaway Scam
A few months back, I had been charged for $9.99 on my T-Mobile phone marked as '30879MediaBkwy_866616****'. This is a scam by a company called Media Breakaway - I never signed up for any service, but they got my number from somewhere (or just random tries), and charged it. To make a long story short, I received my money back. But interestingly, the scamming company has an 'A-' rating from Better Business Bureau, which is a pretty good rating. How is it possible that a scamming company gets such a good rating? This is how:
Anybody who asks for a refund gets it. Anybody who does not notice it, they get charged. Simple - isn't it? Since they refund the money to people who ask for it, they have a good rating, while scamming the rest. Since the people who noticed the extra charges got their refunds, they cannot sue the company either. I cannot imagine a more perfect scam.
