Massage Retreat Spa - Communication/Customer Service

I called the store to inquire on cancelling my membership. They had informed me I needed to go online to submit a form.

I did submit the form for termination and took a screen shot of the confirmation. It stated the manager would contact me within 48hrs. I never heard back and they called me a month later stating the charges did not go through. I explained that I cancelled on the website however the assistant manager stated it would not be terminated until I talked with the manager.

I then told her that the manager never called me after submitting the form and then the response was that I would still have monthly payments after submitting the form of cancellation even if the manager didn't reach out to me.

Everytime I call them the manager is not in, the assistant manager keeps telling me I can't cancel without paying one month charge which initially is not my fault the manager is not meeting the needs to people who want to terminate.

I am an onyx member at lifetime fitness as well, which the fitness center service is amazing but this location they are very rude and disrespectful and unorganized. I do not want to resolve this issue with any of the staff there because they aren't willing to talk and avoid the issue even when I have the screenshot from the website that it had been submitted.

Got my year agreement but cannot accommodate

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I have made several attempts to book a massage at Plymouth massage retreat however they can never seem to accommodate. I have called several times and then asked to hold and after 8 minutes on hold today I hung up.

I called back after leaving a message for a return call from them and after 30 minutes waiting to hear from Gena I called again. I am tired of hearing the same response about being booked out and having to drive out of my way to obtain a massage. My contract is up in January but I want them to be aware their customer service is the least bit professional. The Plymouth massage & Retreat should not be in business for themselves when they claim to surpass theircustomers expectations But do not.

Gena is much too young to hold an area managers position when she can't satisfy a local customer under contract who is very unhappy with the lack of service I was an awesome tipper but for the inconvenience I will be keeping my tip money, if I choose to return to that location. When in the business to satisfy Gena you have much to learn.

I am sorry for Massage Retreat with you as their acting manager. You know nothing about customer satisfaction!

Charged for trying to reschedule an appt when they said they'd be "totally flexible" - Bait and Switch

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I was sooo excited to join and pamper myself with regular treatments since this is close to my house. I scheduled a was the appointment and woke up with a sick kid I could not send to school - so I called them at 7am to reschedule my 11:45 appointment.

They charged me $37.50 for a no show. Not cool.. The person who talked me into this appointment told me they're really flexible with scheduling since they are such short appointments. Now I'm told they started a new policy for cancellation on 3/1/17.

So scammy To make matters worse, I said i will need to cancel my massage membership as well and they said "we need 30 days advance notice.

We will be pulling charges again on April 8th and then you'll have a massage to use. Then you can cancel" RIP OFF

Horrible Customer Relations at Eden Prairie, MN Location

I gave a friend a gift card to MR for Christmas. She received her massage at the EP location.

When she was checking out, she was told that the card had a 0 balance, and she was asked to pay for it herself. I immediately called the Maple Grove location, where I had purchased the card, and the manager there stated that she could clearly see a gift card attached to the name of my friend, with a credit of $64 available for her use. The manager said she would contact the EP site and clear up the problem. I called the EP site later in the afternoon and spoke to a manager.

She said they had been unable to get a hold of my friend, but they were "willing" to credit the amount she paid back to her. I asked it there was anything else she could offer for the mix-up on their end, and she said no - they were already doing us a favor by crediting my friend's account. Had the EP staff taken even a minute to look at my friend's profile, they would have seen the gift card and handling the issue competently.

My experience with the manager provide some insight into the level of competence at the EP location. Awful customer relations.

Massage Retreat Spa - Membership Review from Chicago, Illinois

My review of #massageretreat and spa. I had been a member in 2014.

Called to cancel membership, scheduled my last appointment. Got my first call from them a month ago to remind me of my 7 available sessions. I reviewed my card statements and found charges totally over $600.

They did not process my cancellation properly, so I had been charged for $65 a month over the last 7 months for services I've not received, not wanted. When I called several times, I was ignored for 3 wks or longer.

Finally got a call back and still no credit returned to me, no email confirming anything. Not a phone call. I was told corporate will handle it last week. Still NO call or credit.

Now - I'm reporting fraud charges to dispute this. Not dealing with the company any longer.

Massage Retreat Spa Membership Review

I am very disappointed in this company! For one, every time I go here my massage is shorter.

Why do I have to pay for a full massage when I am not receiving one? I tried to cancel my membership only to find out that I am stuck and still have to pay for services that I am dissatisfied with!

I am truly upset about this and will never recommend this place to anyone!! I feel like this is a big scam.

Very hard to cancel membership!!

I had a membership at the plymouth location for over a year and decided to cancel this last May. I submitted the termination request TWICE.

I just got a phone call saying my Credit Card has declined (changed #'s) the last three months and now my account is being sent to collections! Are you *** kidding me? What is wrong with these people? Why is it so difficult to cancel a membership?

Seriously, why?

I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND SIGNING UP FOR THEIR MEMBERSHIP... THEY WILL NEVER CANCEL YOUR ACCOUNT!!

THREE MONTHS NOW SINCE I CANCELLED AND THEY ARE THREATENING ME!

UNBELIEVABLE! I WILL BE CALLING THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THE BBB!

MEMBERSHIP AND "SAVINGS PROGRAM" IS A SCAM!!

My sister and I signed up for a family "savings program" ONE membership for 12 months. First massage of the month is included in the membership, second session of the month there is a charge of 49.99 + tax.

The fee was withdrawn from my VISA card TWICE every month either on the 18th or 19th, and again on the 20th or 22nd; the initial fee of 56.99 a month became 69.58 times two!! Not only that, we were charge every month for the "second session of the month" 49.99. Front desk staff assured that the problem would be fix and never happened the overcharge continue for 15 months. Emails to corporation and managers including proof of overcharges were never answer, no managers to take a phone calls, and no mangers at the store they are always new and would promise to solve the problem and NOTHING HAS BEEN RESOLVED! I am filing a complaint with the Minnesota Attorney General, VISA Changeover, and the IRS, this business needs to be audited. I have already written a complaint with the BBB, but Massage Retreat and Spa is not registered with them, no surprises there.

It is important to report their practices at the Attorney General Office.

Massage Retreat and Spa stopped charging me, because my VISA card was compromised and canceled, a new one was re issued and I did not provide the new information to them.

Everything that has been said in previous reviews is true! DO NOT SIGN UP!!

I used to work for massage retreat and spa. Lasted just a few weeks before I couldn't stand all the (justified) complaints from customers.

You spent most of your day just apologizing for their

Bad experiences. The membership is good if you know every detail, never plan on canceling or ever having a medical issue that will bar you from getting a massage (because then it will be a ton of work to cancel), and if you plan on being VERY on point with your allotted massages.

The training process as an employee was all on sales of the memberships. Nothing on products, benefits of massage (unless we were training on how to counter customer injunctions), or who would be an ideal client for the membership.

People coming in with a gift card, never getting a massage ever before, were hard-sold on a year's commitment.

We were trained to never let them even pay for the service they took that day until we heard "no" from the customer four times about the membership.

If we couldn't sell to that customer, we were betrayed by management and sent to "retrain" at corporate.

Any employee giving the corporate number to a customer was later shamed and scolded.

I would get sick to my stomac going to work there everyday because I couldn't handle the constant dishonesty. Quitting was the best thing I ever did for myself.

Massage implies relaxation, this place is nothing but stress.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This place is an absolute joke. I don't even know where to start, in the last year I have not had one good experience here.

Upon one of my first visits I was talked into the membership program that this spa offers and it sounded very appealing. The membership program is a 12 month program in which your first massage is about $56 or so after tax, and then each addition massage after that would be $40. Well that was fine and dandy but what they don't explain to you upon signing up is that you CANNOT cancel at any time with the membership. You literally have to keep paying the monthly membership price for the full 12 months.

When I signed up, I asked if I could cancel at any time and the gal signing me up said of course. So imagine my surprise when I called to find out what I need to do to cancel and the manager plays dumb about the fact that nobody in her office would have ever told me that. Then after your year is up you would think that you would not have to continue to pay, but oh no! It goes month to month after that automatically, and wait for it...

the cherry on top is that they need a 30 day notice if you do want to cancel with them. You give less notice when you quit a job for Christ sake. I should tell you that they do allow you to "bank" your massages and use them whenever you would like if you do not end up getting in within the month that you paid for, but just wait because they find a way to *** over with this too! Twice a year they allow you to gift 2 of your massages away.

I called in July to ask when their gifting period was and the gal told me it was October so I anxiously waited for October so I could give a couple of my many banked massages away. Well October rolled around and I go in to the store and they tell me that they weren't sure who told me that but the gifting period was in September and that there was nothing they could do being that it was over. So needless to say this place was really starting to *** me off, so when my membership was up I put in my 30 day notice and only after I did that did they tell me that I only had a month to use all of my massages that I had banked over the past year or I just loose them. I was IRATE.

You’re telling the massages that I already paid for I will lose because I cancel my membership...YUP. Let me tell you that isn't even all of it. So just about any and every time I've called they ask to put me on hold and it’s not a quick hold it is anywhere from 3-15 minutes. The best part is that I've been hung up on more times by the front desk gal there than if I were a telemarketer calling.

My rant has been mostly about the EXTREMELY POOR customer service but I'll tell you about the massages. So I guess I was unaware that a 90 Minute massage is only technically 80 minutes and a 60 Minute is only 50 because you need 5 minutes on either side to change. Well I don't know about you but I usually change like my clothes are on fire because I'm usually so excited about my massage. I always assumed the clock started when you were undressed and on the table, however naive that may be.

Any-who I had an appointment one morning and had arrived about 10 minutes early (I was excited) and checked in. My massage therapist didn't come get me and bring me back until 15 minutes after my appointment time. Then we get back to the massage room and she literally massaged me until the time I should have been massaged for if she wasn't late so my massage was 35 minutes. My massage was scheduled for 60 which now I know is really only 50 minutes.

Either way her bringing me back late was not my fault, being that I was there ten minutes early... So why did she end early? Well I don't know and the front desk was a cluster *** (like always) when I went to check out so I figured I would call and speak to the manager. Well when I talked to the manager she gave me some BS about how the massage therapist should know better and that I could get a free upgrade on my next service...

The upgrades are worth $10. I was ripped off by 15 minutes by my massage, how does that compensate? This isn't even the worst part of the whole experience. The worst part is when you are paying for something and the massage therapist asks you what you want worked on and you tell them and they completely ignore you and just work on what they want.

Excuse me I paid for this, I am going to be the one tipping you and I want you to work on what I want.

I am not usually such a complainer; I used to work in a restaurant so I always tip well and know that the service industry is hard. This company is a straight joke though and they obviously do not care about their customers.

The membership is a trap that works for the company, and against you. pay attention to the fine print!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I would definitely recommend not to get caught in the Maple Grove Massage Retreat and spa trap. We signed up for a Valentines day promotion in 2014 - it required a year contract. After just a couple of months, they raised the price. A couple month later, they raised the price again... they no longer honored the promotion we signed up for, and ended up charging us $15/mo more that what we signed the contract for- siting the fact the contract had a clause that it was "subject to change". I was sent back and forth countless times between member services (corporate) and the spa management, without resolution. Each pointed to eachother for resolution, which neither were willing to do. Their customer service is absolutely terrible. I was double and even triple charged (to my credit card on file- which is a requirement) on multiple occasions, and had to spend hours going back and forth and sending them credit card statements to prove it, because they are incompetent when it comes to math and account balances. Besides all of the headache cause by account administration, their masseuses enjoyed talking through your massage because it "made it go by faster". I don't know about anyone else, but I would prefer a massage DIDN'T go by faster... except under the circumstances where the masseuses are talking your ear off.

Although I expressed on several occasions that I would not be continuing my membership after the year contract was up, and even emailed the spa manager over 30 day prior to my planned cancellation date- I didn't "technically" submit my cancellation request until 21 days prior to the contract close- because it wasn't until my last massage that they told me I needed to submit it to a specific member services email address for it to be a valid cancellation. They were not willing to make any exceptions because of this technicality, and extended my contract even past a year. They don't care at all about your, or helping you. They just want another month of dues.

You can get a really good $70 massage a lot of different places, without having to deal with the headache of a contract that works for the company (they definitely utilize "prices are subject to change") and against you. The stress caused by trying to work with customer service over-rode the stress relief and relaxation from the massage. I highly recommend AGAINST this company- especially at the Maple Grove location.

Massage Retreat Spa - Gift Certificate Review from Minneapolis, Minnesota

My daughter gave me a 125 dollar gift cert for Christmas. I tried to use it but apparently I had been there before and owed them 3 months of payments.

They said that I would only be able to get my scheduled massage after I paid the 3 months of dues I had missed, which came to 275 bucks. I told the manager that was not going to happen and she said "ok" and that was it. I left. Enough said.

I am out and cannot use my gift cert. ***, this place is ***.

No Platinum Membership Cancellation accepted for any reason!

I signed up for a monthly membership (the Platinum Membership). I requested that the monthly fee be withdrawn from my account on the 18th each month.

I made it quite clear that I did not want to sign up for the membership if the fee would be taken out before the 5th each month. The first month they took I out on the 2nd. The second month (December) they didn't take it out at all. I didn't notice this with all of the holiday spending and craziness.

The third month I received a letter on the 19th threatening me with a collection agency. At this point I decided to cancel the membership. I don't like threats or endless difficulties with billing. This membership can not be cancelled.

I have gotten several condescending emails from corporate. They have offered me the opportunity to put my membership hold several times while I get my finances in order. I can afford it or I wouldn't have signed up. I just don't want to give my money to a place like this.

The only way to cancel is via email. They do not care about their poor service or my lack of satisfaction. They just want that monthly fee. I would recommend reading every bit of fine print on anything they ask you to sign.

I had no idea this membership couldn't be cancelled especially in cases where the customer was dissatisfied with the service.

I used to work for massage retreat. That only lasted about a month and a half as I was too sick to even stomach all the (justified) complaints from this place.

My job, it turned out, was just learning how to take people's money and avoid mentioning cancellations etc.

This customer is on point with what they are saying as we were shamed and berrated if we have our corporate phone numbers to people to handle the issue.

I'm not surprised you were passed around from one to the other giving you no solution.

I quit as soon as I realized none of this company was about customer service, but all about roping people into something they couldn't get out of.

We were even encouraged to "sell hard" to those who did not speak English well as they would probably have a harder time understanding the cancellation and terms.

Guess who quit the day he/she was told that? This person!

Guest

I didn't even get phone calls back from managers when requested. I emailed the member email and NOONE contacted me back .

They also took pre paid funds from me and cancelled my account. When those funds could have been applied to the membership. I lost my wallet out of the country and could not update my account until I got home. I called to inform them but my account was on a freeze for non payment .

Sent an email as that's all they could tell me to do. I waited a month and called the spa back to be informed that a week after my call I was terminated and all money on my account was surrendered.

If I walk in there and take 400.00 in product I believe they will have me arrested. Now I have to sue the company for my money.

When you sign a contract and you are over 18, you need to fulfill the obligation of the contract. The spa was very flexible when I needed to put my membership on hold.

I found out she was no longer available and asked to have my acount frozen in september. I wasen't able to coutinue geting the service but was still billed until december. I can now e mail and understand the need for uniformity in policy.
