Disaster Tile

Initial complaint

this is what happened. It saddens me to have to write this but I would not want what happened to me and my family to happen to ANYONE else. Manuel Galvan’s Style Tile and More is not a good company to do business with. A 30 day project took 98 days. He missed every deadline that was set. He had personal issues. He asked for money outside the agreed times despite him not being on time. He did not have help and he wrote the contract to whereas we felt locked in. He NEVER offered a discount. Very disappointed. On 29 April 2012, we hired Manuel Galvan after meeting him while he was working on a display at Floor and Decor. We met with him on a few occasions and discussed our downstairs, backsplashes on the tub, stove, bar area and baseboards get tiled, the master shower rebuilt/extended and tiled and the door leading to the master bath be reversed. Manuel said he did decks too so we discussed 3 pergolas, two decks and a concrete slab. We specifically asked how long these would take as we entertain quite often and had made plans for the summer. He said one Month total. He told us he d have help. We had talked to other contractors (Lowes, Home Depot and a few other private contractors who said they could do the tile in 1 week. Manuel requested another week since he was rebuilding the shower. He requested two weeks for the deck. It took him 3 weeks on the shower. On 20 May, we reminded him that we would be entertaining on Memorial Day weekend. He wasn t done. We had plans to have our son s 13th Bday party at the house on 3 Jun, he wasn t done. We reminded him that we were going out of town on 13 Jun, he promised to get help and at least be done with the inside. He did not get done. He started asking for more money before he was done. He asked if I would allow him to work on the inside while we were out of town (5 days) and he promised he d get done before we returned. He was not done when we returned on 17 Jun. He finally finished the inside on 20 June. He used my household broom and ruined it. He did not have a shopvac and used my household vac. We purchased the wood on 5 May as requested by Manuel. The wood laid on my lawn until he started on 20 June. We planned a 4th of July BBQ, I discussed with Manuel and he promised he d only take 10 days for the deck, and then he changed it to 2 Jul, then 3 Jul, then 5 or 6 July. He didn’t have a ladder high enough to build the pergola that we agreed on so we loan him our ladder. He apologized quite often. He finally finished the deck on 7 August. Manuel needed help. Had we known that he was not going to have help, he would have never have been hired. He said he’d have help and he didn’t. In the end, I paid Manuel. I was going to make him take me to court, then I thought I’d pay him over the course of 98 days, then I thought I’d pay him partially with the gift cards that we got from taking stuff back. Manuel does great work and he is a great person, he just isn’t a business man at all. Manuel needs to take classes in how to conduct business. How to satisfy the customer’s needs. How to meet deadlines. How to communicate with the customer. He is not good at handling the business aspect of his company. He does not understand the inconveniences that he creates and he doesn’t deduct a dime for the inconveniences and or delays. He did not build the third pergola as it was stated in our contract and when I asked about a discount, he refused stating that he reversed the bathroom door and he sealed my floors. This entire project caused so much stress, frustration and havoc in my house that we were just ready for him to go. Regardless of the quality of his work, I would NEVER hire Manuel to do another job at my house and I would not recommend him.

I cannot give anything higher than a 1. I got a recommendation from them for a tiler. The tiler said the tile was the worst tile he d ever worked with but nonetheless, this is what happened. Follow up 6 months later

Six months later and there are cracks and holes in the grout all over my house. Paid over $6000 only to have to pay someone else to come back and fix the grout for a second time. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH MANUEL. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND DON'T BE FOOLED BY HIS INITIAL NICE PERSONALITY. The work looks good but it's *** quality. I have pictures. If you want to see them email me.

He did our deck too- that wasn't the greatest either. Bad cuts in the wood.

Here we are almost 2 years later having to have work done on the deck and have also had to have people come in an redo tile that was done poorly. The wood was left around the concrete slabs.

finally had the wood taken off only to see that the concrete is only 2 inches thick which explains why it cracked within 1 year.

Having to pay over a $2000 to get it done right. The tile and the grout that was layed has cracked on numerous occasions.....

Manual, its been 3 months since you completed the tile and the deck out our home. There are several noticeable cracks in our grout.

Some are holes.

Along the baseboards, you missed alot of caulking. We also just recently realized that you didn't fill not one but two areas around the deckpost with cement.
