Mai Tai Vacations
I received a post card from Mai Tai Vacations offering a free 8 day cruise for 2 and free airline travel. Any 8 day cruise costs at least $1500 for two. When I called, the sales person refused to say what they actually sell. Her phone headset died, so she offered to call me back. That's when I googled it and found others with issues. When she called me back and I read her what I found online, she said it must be their competitors writing lies, to try to destroy their business. When I asked her what her company actually sells, she just said they are a travel agency. I still do not understand how any legitimate business can offer to just give me and many others, thousands of dollars of cruises and airline travel. She said they just opened a new office nearby, but they want to meet me at a hotel. Why not the new office, and she could not tell me where the new office is. Stay away from this deal, it is a scam, and you will be the victim.

Provided numerous counts of intentionally misleading information
We attended a sales presentation for Mai Tai vacations. We were told we could book a 3 bedroom condo anywhere, anytime for $699 a month. We were told there were no reservation fees. We went to sign the contract, it said there was an AVERAGE charge of $699 a week for 2011 and that reservation fees for a call were $25 a week (which would be credited toward your next call if there was no availability - so you end up paying for a call that netted no reservation). The salesperson claimed this price was locked in for the duration of the membership, and the $25 was credited toward your weekly rental fee. When I mentioned this was not what the agreement stated, he insisted this is what it meant. When I continued to press for more information about the $699 "average" fee, I was told this was calculated by taking the company's lowest price weekly rental for a 1 bedroom condo and their highest price and averaging the two. I requested to view the website to get a more accurate picture of what "average" would mean for me, but was denied. As I continued to ask questions, they tore up our paperwork in front of us, quickly whisked away all of our information, including their business cards. We were very perplexed because we were only asking questions and were not at all confrontational. We were promised a free cruise (to be taken anytime in the next year) and airline tickets for 2 to anywhere in the Continental US for just attending. Upon leaving, they gave us official looking documents to send by certified mail to receive our gifts. We were asked to send cashier's checks or money orders to claim these gifts!! We also found out that the cruise had to be taken during the offseason between Sept and Dec, which gave us only 5 months to take, not the 1 year promised. We are not out anything but our time. However, I feel that others need to be warned about this company's misleading sale's tactics. Make sure you read everything VERY CAREFULLY and understand everything about how the program works (I almost missed the "average" thing. I was looking for the $699 promise in writing and found it . . . sort of.) My heart goes out to the less careful readers that signed up on the spot.
