Lights Designed to Fail
Purchased 3 matching light fixtures totaling $500 from LightingDirect.com. Fixtures made by Golden Lighting Company.
Within a few years one of the lamp sockets on one of the fixtures quit working. Contacted both companies with regard to getting a replacement lamp socket since could not find one locally. Complete run around with each company telling me to contact the other. Finally, Golden Lighting tells me that the lamp sockets were not designed to be replaced and will have to get whole new light fixture.
Which began a new second run around with each company saying the other responsible for warranty. Wound up throwing all 3 lights away and buying new matching fixtures from competitor. By the way, GLC still makes and LDC still sells this exact same fixture.
Replacing a lamp socket should be fairly simple. The only reason I can think of to make a lamp socket where it can't be replace is to force you to buy new light every couple of years.
