Lebanon Small Animal Clinic Will Take Advantage of You

My dog had diarrhea and severe fever over the holidays. I went to a vet in Mason who I did not think was taking this illness seriously so I tried Lebanon Small Animal Clinic or LSAC in Lebanon, Ohio which is closer to my home. I was impressed with the nice waiting area. The first vet I saw was a man and he was kind and took blood work. He could not figure out what was wrong so he put her on a diarrhea medicine and we would see how that went. It did not work and my dog became listless. I took her on an emergency run to the LSAC who saw me right away. The last visit was 300.00 so I was worried about this one. I made is clear to this new female vet that I did not have much money though when you love your dog you will do anything for them. She saw my desperation. She tried to do expensive blood work AGAIN and I should have known at that moment that she was the devil. She did test after test showing me how the money was racking up. She then did an x ray. At that moment the bill was 600.00. I was hysterical because she STILL could not figure out what was wrong with my dog. Then she wanted to do a barium test that cost almost 500.00. I lost it. I refused, paid my bill, and took my dog to the Mason Animal Hospital who saved her life. First they told me that a barium test at their office is only 180.00. Then they said they were going to treat this as a bacterial infection which is what is appeared to be to them. And guess what? It was and my dog started to get better. They gave her food supplements, fever medicine, and worm treatment for possible hard to see worm infection. Their bill for saving my dog's life was a little over 100.00 and they said she did not need any of the tests done at LSAC. Thanks to the money LSAC ripped off of me I cannot put down a car payment this year and may lose my job because of it. They have ruined my life and I hope LSAC burns to the ground. THEY ARE OVERPRICED AND WILL TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU.

We are glad that your dog is feeling better. It is always difficult to see our little furry loved ones suffering. The veterinarians at Mason Animal Hospital are very good people. You were definitely in good hands.

There are many different ways of treating and approaching certain conditions in veterinary medicine, especially when routine blood tests do not reveal abnormalities. In regards to cost, sometimes veterinarians have to make an educated guess or treat symptomatically rather than give an actual diagnosis. The tests that were suggested and performed at Lebanon Small Animal Clinic were meant to find a diagnosis rather than treat for a suspect infection.

Our policy is to show clients their bills throughout the treatment process so they are aware of potential expenses. This empowers the client to make informed decisions, as well as provide us with information if we need to adjust treatment protocol to accommodate financial considerations.

I am sorry to hear of your financial situation especially in these trying times. It is sometimes difficult to make decisions regarding our pets when putting food on our own table and paying bills becomes a restriction. Best wishes for you and your pet’s health.
