Threatened Court proceedings

Learning People - Threatened Court proceedings

So, I got to the UK for my Masters in Data science in February 2022 and because I had no previous coding background but desire to become a Data scientist. I was looking for assistance in helping my transition.

I dont know what evil led me to one of the sales rep. from Leaning People.

At the time, my husband was working to clear my sch outstanding and feeding the family and as an immigrant in the UK, with no recourse to public funds, I thought I was on a journey to better my life but rather its been a total meltdown.

So, as a novice in the UK, the sales rep cross-sold the Learning People Data Science package for £4000 and talked about other career services that I will receive and I really was excited and thought I was becoming my dream. So I registered for the course in April and started in May. On June 12, 2022.

I lost my immedate younger brother and the pain was so deep that I fell ill. During this bereavement sickness, I also realised I was pregnant. So my life took an entirely different turn and I mean messed up.

I then called the advisor that I wanted to cancel the course because I was pregnant, and sick this guy talked me into not cancelling, saying that I shouldnt kill my dream right there, he said even if I couldnt do the course during the pregnancy, I can always be considered to do it much later, so I didnt cancel.

Fast forward to after child birth, I realised the course had expired, as it was only for one year and they gave me 6months extension, I was a nursing mother and I just was struggling with everything and I couldnt carry on well and of course; for a course that was estimated to be done over a year even if I didnt have a new born. Meanwhile, 3months after childbirth, I suddenly realised that my little one couldnt see which led to an emergency escalation and was discovered she had cataract in her both eyes.

the first 6months extensions finished and I was still unable to continue and gave another 6months after which no more extension was considered and payment has always been requested.

All along, I was keeping in touch and informing Learning People of my child's health issues . We had surgery over surgery and treatment here and there and another struggle of my life started which literally put a pause to my life and more pressure on my husband.

Due to the pressure on my husband's earnings, I defaulted payment a few time and picked back up and life been any rossy.

Had to take a customer service job along the line as we were terribly struggling as a family and we are not entitled to any form of benefit, small as it may and life kept on throwing us shades.

However, I couldnt sustain the job because my frequent hospital visit for my daughter, could no longer be taken as a day off...I updated learning people with evidence of my circumstance, every step of the way but guess what! The response was always appalling and about continuous payment. I had written a review about this on some platforms where I saw some paid reviews that can never be true about Learning People.

After resigning from the job, I realised I had paid over £2500 from the £4000 and wrote to them pleading for a waiver of the balance on compassionate grounds for my situation and the fact that I didnt even do the course.

If I ever was active on the course it was only for a month.

This is a course package consisting of 4 tracks each consisting of atleast 7 topics all consisting of subtopics with atleast atleast 12 videos and I was only on the Track 1, Topic 1 and subtopic 2 completing about 6 videos . But the waiver was refused and the tone of the email made me cry my life realising the effect of one bad choice in life.

Learning People has since then been threatening and chasing me with debt recovery solicitors. Yes, my daughter's condition has gone a long way improving even though, we are still battling some developmental delays but I am sure grateful so far.

Also, I have gone back to read the agreement which I didnt read from the beginning; I literally just believed the sales guy and the package subscription he gave me and signed. But guess what I found out!

Nothing speaks to the course content or exceptional circumstance support and the agreement even says they can choose not to offer career services, which was one of the catch the guy had sold to me... I was unbelievably stupid, new in a country and was so jumpy, and I am having to pay for it with my state of mind.

Still, my painpoint here is, I didnt do the course or acquire any knowledge to become anything close to a data scientist. The CV review, LinkedIn and other employment service offered was not done. No form of compassion or empathy from this team and I have been very scared of this country like!...is this how it works around here!

I am pained to my bones and feel exploited!!!

Does that mean that once a contract is signed even in cases like this in this country, one must pay for it?

The solicitor already said they are going ahead with court proceedings, and I should expect what's next and I cannot but cry yet again asking myself what I have to show for this pain.

I will please appreciate if anyone knows how I can fight this?

The agreement was so constructed that you can tell they have always been about the money and nothing else and I happen to fall prey!

I dont want to die in silence please... I need help, please!! I have never owe a dime not even in my country, and I have never been in court my whole life, only to find myself here.

I have attached the course package sold to me, please look at all that was promised.

I didnt even do 1 track of it! Lord have mercy!!!

While most people on a personal level would express empathy, business-wise that means nothing. You need to look at it like this.

No employer can ask/comment to you about bereavement, illness, pregnancy, home life or finances.

As such, those same issues cannot be your basis to get out of a business contract. Your best bet is to work out some extension where you make one-third monthly payments over a longer period.

Hi, Thanks a lot for your message. Even considering the fact that the service was not utilised?

I didn’t get to do the course and I have paid over £2500 so far. The current outstanding is £1446 and they refused a waiver, is it business contract standards to pay in full even if the service is not used?

And is that to say there can’t be empathy in businesses for any exceptional circumstances? Please educate me.

Not entirely resolved. I couldn’t get my refund. They offered to sign me up on another course instead. Not really the outcome I was looking for.Consumers beware before signing their contract and locking you in.

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!

I signed up for the Comptia Cyber Securty Course @ $5,610. It was a terrible decision and a big waste of money.

I found the course material to be outdated, the videos were created several years ago. I complained but they didnt get back to me till months later.

I was told I cant cancel or get a refund because Im locked into a contract.

This company has no conscience!!
