Worst law firm
I makes me sick to my stomach to think about vulnerable people being taken advantage of. Jamie Ryke and his team is absolutely horrible, I will never understand how you people sleep at night.

Verified Reviewer |Dishonest lawyer, worst experience of my life!!!!
- - A free in-person consultation was offered.
- - Quoted ten thousand, but fees ended well over seventy-five thousand; copies promised, not mailed.
My father-in-law passed away, and he did not have a will, so my mother needed a probate attorney. She was in her early stages of dementia, so I was appointed to handle her estate.
My mom put her trust in me, and I put my trust in the law firm that ripped my mom off. I could see if I did not present everything and I left things out, but I didn't. I am very organized. I just knew nothing about probate.
I called their office and spoke to Thomas J. Langan, who said we could come in and speak with him in person and have a free consultation. So my mom and I went to the office in Southfield and sat in the waiting room for about 10 minutes. Christina, his secretary, then took us into a conference room to speak with Mr.
Langan. I came prepared with a full briefcase with the title work on every property that my mom owned. I had a folder for every property labeled with completed title work because we had hired a realtor to sell the properties who ran title work. Then we found out that we had to go into probate.
Thomas J. Langan told my mom and me that it would not cost more than $10,000. We presented everything to him. There were no surprises on the properties she owned and what we needed from him, including money from a bank account that was frozen because my mom was not on the account.
He did have to do a little more work on my mom's farm property because of land contracts, but other than that, I provided all the folders and left them there at his office. Right after we spoke, he told Christina, the secretary, to make copies of everything and mail them back to me, which she never did. I had to go there and pick up my folders. He ruined my relationship with my mother because my mother thinks that I stole her money.
Mr. Langan has charged us well over $75,000. Now I could see if his quote was off by $4,000 or $5,000, but how could he be off by $65,000? I will never forget getting in the car after leaving that appointment.
Mr. Langan was in a baseball uniform leaving. I didn't know he was walking behind us; he stopped us as we were getting in the car and had this grin on his face and said, 'Oh don't worry, it won't be more than $10,000. It won't cost you more than that.' I think he had heard my mom talking to me about it on the way out.
She was very concerned about getting ripped off. I got the worst feeling with that sneaky little smirk he had on his face. I should've known better. Always follow your gut instincts!
I didn't know anything about probate; this was my first time. It's an awful feeling to trust somebody that is supposed to help your situation after your father's passing, not make it worse for me and my mom. Stressed out, my mom was thinking of her retirement, and that was all she had left. He took $20,000 from just one property that sold and was well aware of what he was going to do to us!
My realtor even mentioned to me that Langan's fees on all my mom's properties that sold/closed were really high on the settlement statements! I thought to myself, what can I do? Nothing, and he knew it! I find that very odd that Thomas Langan put me in touch with my realtor because he deals with probate estates!
Furthermore, I have been a notary for over 20 years, and I take pride in my job as a mortgage closer! I could never lie to my clients about their closing fees just to get the closing done! How some people can sleep at night, knowing that their word as a man means nothing, lies to you, and makes you feel totally taken advantage of! Thomas Langan made it worse for me and my mom.

Thomas Langan ruined my relationship with my mother, who will no longer speak to me; she thinks that I stole her money and had something to do with the attorney's office since I hired them. Langan ruined my relationship with my mother, who will no longer speak to me. I do not recommend using this office unless you want to have your money stolen from you. Thomas J.
Langan is very sneaky. He does not communicate with his clients, especially ones that do not know anything about probate, and if he does communicate with you, you will be charged a fortune.
I'm sure the office will delete this, but like I said, I was originally quoted $10,000, and that was for him to do a quiet title for us, which never happened! This was probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had to deal with, and I'm glad it's over with.

Not Safe for the Disabled
- - Hired to protect me but faced negligence.
- - Trustee of my mother's special needs trust.
- - They drafted a deed removing my name from the home.
I was introduced to Thomas Langan on September 17th, 2020. While hired to protect my interests, my experience has been one of negligence and gaslighting.
He became the trustee of my mothers special needs trust, of which I am the sole beneficiary, in November of 2020.
Mr. Langan recently claimed a wire transfer failed due to a 'bank error.' When I raised concerns, he was patronizing and condescending but assured me he had checked the documentation 'thrice.' I eventually discovered the truth through documentation. He had personally signed a bank document where he mixed up a 2 and a 5 in my account number.
Due to this error, which contained Mr. Langans electronic signature, the transfer failed.
He then authorized a second transfer without informing me, which also failed. When I asked for the bank records, he refused to provide them. Instead, he feigns ignorance or confusion regarding my very clear lines of questioning, despite stating he has received, understood, or that I was clear. To date, I have not received the information I have requested regarding this initial error.
Worst of all, the firm recently attempted to strip me of the title to my own home.
I asked for help paying my mortgage after recent abuse following 4 and a half years of homelessness and domestic violence of which the firm was aware. I purchased a home with my ex last year after the trust failed to find me adequate housing. I requested assistance in assuming my mortgage to separate from my abusive ex-partner and qualify for mortgage payment assistance. Instead of removing my ex and drafting the deed in my name, the Trustee and firm drafted a deed that removed my name entirely and transferred my house into the Trust controlled by Mr.
Langan. Had I signed this document, I would have been disqualified from state mortgage assistance programs and blocked from assuming the loan myself. This would have left me trapped on a mortgage with my abuser, with no ownership rights. They attempted to coerce me into total dependency rather than helping me achieve the independence I deserve.
I receive RSDI (like retirement, not needs-based), not SSI (needs-based), so my house isnt even an asset that counts against me.
The firm seems insistent that Im still receiving SSI, but I havent qualified since shortly after my mothers passing, and they refuse to keep themselves informed. This trust isnt protecting my benefits, their lack of knowledge has actually caused me to lose coverage at least twice. Now theyve put me in a situation that could cost me my home and trigger critical health crises.
Instead of owning these mistakes, the firm blames communication issues on my disability. They refuse reasonable accommodations and will not address my medical teams concerns that taking my autonomy will lead to serious crises.
They charge roughly $50 per email, penalizing me for asking questions to clarify administrative errors. Additionally, they require over 16 people to administer what they consider to be a trust with very minimal assets and arent administering it correctly, incurring hefty and unnecessary fees they often try to hide or justify.
To justify their behavior, they attempt to paint me as incompetent. The reality is that I am a psychology student in a national honors society. While the firm charged the trust over $80,000 in fees over 5 years, they failed to protect me from homelessness or secure housing.
In contrast, I was able to secure my own home using a MSHDA first-time homebuyer loan with down payment assistance in less than a month, relying solely on my disability income. If I could achieve this with limited resources, there is no excuse for a professional firm with vast resources to fail while draining my inheritance.
They present a kind face to the public, but behind closed doors, they isolate vulnerable clients and label valid concerns as 'instability.' If you are working with special needs individuals, this firm is not safe.

Verified ReviewerRUN AWAY, DO NOT USE THIS FIRM AT ANY TIME !!!
- - Jamie promised to handle the case but did not.
- - Seven attorneys; no substitution on record.
- - Petition denied after 28 months; $80k billed.
At the first convo Jamie promised he would handle the case, NOT True, the case went thru 7 attys, who were unprepared, had to re-explain each time, never filed a "sub of atty" so the Court had NO record of the "new" atty at each appearance...plus, no one contacted me when a "new" atty was assigned to my case ! I was charged for any trivial act.
The selfish family member hired a "fly-by-night shyster" who kept trying to "relitigate" previous judge's decisions which only baffled these 7 attys...after 28 months, my Petition was DENIED and after it all Jamie's firm still wants $80,000 !!! My dog would've done better !!!

- - Jamie promised to handle my case but did not.
- - Seven attorneys; no substitute filed, delaying the case; opposing side re-litigated and won; Jamie still seeks $80,000.
First phone convo Jamie promised me he would handle my case, did not. My case went through seven attorneys, with the re-explaining, unfamiliar and unprepared attorneys.
No 'sub of attorney' ever filed, so the court was not aware of the 'new' attorney. That slowed down things. The opposing attorney used many unethical ways to 're-litigate' previous decisions by the judge that sabotaged my case. I was never told when a 'new' attorney was on my case.
When I called, Jamie only wanted to talk money/payment!
The crooked opposing attorney won the case, and Jamie still wants $80,000! My dog would have been better at this!

- - The reviewer alleges inheritance theft by a law firm.
- - They claim deceased parents' properties, assets and a petroleum company were stolen.
Thomas Langan of Thav, Ryke & Associates stole my inheritance. They will spend time behind bars for what they did.
They stole my deceased Parents Properties, Assets and Petroleum Company. They believe they can continue to embezzle my inventory. They will end up like Oklahoma Probate Attorney Sarah C.
Stewart. Who went to Prison in 2024 for embezzlement.

Verified ReviewerResolved: Worst legal experience I have ever had!
- - Probate case cost nearly $10K; many paralegals.
- - There was poor communication and bills for calls.
- - Delinquent estate notices came with little updates.
Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with apology. The senior member of this firm reached out to me directly and did everything in his power to make things right. Thank you Andrew Thav, would recommend.
My case was passed through three or four different paralegals, who clearly didn't speak to each other at all. I had to re-explain every detail to each new paralegal every time. The estate involved one residential property, but each time I spoke with one of the paralegals, they were always trying to shove vehicles and bank accounts into this estate; vehicles and bank accounts that were already handled, and I was already the beneficiary of. I spent months receiving no communication from anyone at this firm, but frequently receiving bills.
At one point, I received a form in the mail that was a 'Notice to close delinquent estate.' Having no idea what this meant, I tried to call the firm and got sent to voicemail every time. Eventually, I started calling the firm twice a day every day for a week straight, leaving my paralegal voice mails begging her to reach out to me, to just let me know how things were progressing. She eventually called me back about a week and a half later, and basically told me to 'not worry about it'. At one point, I called just to discuss one of the bills/invoices I had received.
I was transferred to one of the paralegals and asked them right upfront 'I'm just calling to ask questions about my bill. Am I being billed for this conversation?' He told me, 'No, it would be ridiculous to bill you just for calling to discuss your bill.' I got billed for that call. Eventually, I reached out to other firms and discussed with them the issues I was having with Thav Ryke & Associates, and many of the other lawyers that I spoke with told me that it didn't sound like my case was being 'handled correctly'. Now, after months of no communication, I've received what I hope is a 'final bill/invoice', but I can't be sure because the receptionist at their firm seems relatively useless, can't tell me anything or email me copies of old invoices, just wants to transfer me to one of the lawyer/paralegals every time I call, and I don't want that because they will just charge me again for a five-minute conversation about my bills...
I don't understand how Thav Ryke & Associates has such a high Google review if this is any example of how they treat their clientele. I feel like I have been milked for every dime they could get from me, while simultaneously ignoring me as much as possible. I wonder how much of my money the paralegals wasted trying to force items into my estate that didn't need to be there. I wonder why I, or any other client, would receive notices in the mail about 'delinquent estate closing' with no communication from any of the lawyers/paralegals.
And I wonder how much more time/money this might have cost me had I not informed them I was seeking other legal advice.
In my opinion, from my experience with Thav Ryke & Associates, they are a bunch of clowns who can't coordinate with each other. A group of crooks, who will manipulate you to get every dime they can out of you, and I would not recommend them to any friends or family, for any probate services, under any circumstances.

The attorneys did a great job in handling the discovery process and making the other side look weak.
