I am kid and read my story
Not a sustainable ongoing program
The staff will also not correct the student's work. They will ask the parent to mark the work. This further demonstrates the lack of support from staff at the center.
As the levels progress, the exercises take longer to complete. The staff at the center do not explain any concepts to the child. They assume the child will know how to do a new exercise. If the child does not know how to do a new set of exercises, they say that he should go back to the previous level even though he knows how to do that level.
This is not the solution to assisting the child to do a new exercise. The solution is to explain to the child the new concept, for him to complete the exercise. So the program would be beneficial if the staff at the center explained concepts to the child before the child starts doing the exercise. The support at the center is zero.
The parent has to teach the child to make the program work. If the parent does not have the time to teach the child then, the child will not progress. The student must do exercises every day 7 days a week - no miss. The parent has to prepared to assist the child every day.
The staff make the child repeat the books if they take longer than what they believe the child should take, rather than because the child struggles with the exercise. Often my son will take a long time to do exercises because he wants to go away and play and does not want to do the work, not because he does not understand the work. He is also very slow at writing. When he is given a repeat book, he gets very upset and questions why he has to repeat something he already knows how to do.
Sometimes the staff will give him the same book multiple times and even the parents become frustrated about this. He is tired of the program and I question whether he will want to continue with the program beyond this year. The staff will tell you to reduce the pages the child completes everyday to reduce the time it takes him to finish exercises, but this means that the child will progress at a much slower pace. It is also a very expensive program $130 to $140 a month.
Essentially all you receive is material and attend the center to sit tests after the child completes each level. I would probably look for another program that offers teaching assistance, as this program is not sustainable on ongoing basis.
- Couple of months were productive
- Material became redundant and obsolete

What’s new
No consideration for parent needs and goals
Not the best place go to place for math / reading
Some benefit for a LOT of hassle
My husband thinks doing repetitive math is the way to go. Just drill them until they know it.
We are up to our third child doing this. I, personally, HATE and LOATH Kumon. I know the kids hate it too. I feel like we spend a lot of money on these worksheets.
It's the parents who spend the vast majority of time correcting them and nagging the child to do them while the Kumon tutor sees them twice a week. My kids have expressed low self-esteem because of the constant struggle with this entire program. I can say that my kids do know their multiplication tables cold, but at what cost? On top of it all, the 2 owners I've dealt with over the years are so arrogant and nasty.
I have taught my kids not to use the word hate liberally since it really is a strong word, but I can only say over and over again that I HATE Kumon. I'm far from convinced, as my husband is, that it's an effective way of teaching.

Kumon - Stay Away
Excellent program for serious parents
This is a great program for parents that take seriously their kids' education. My child attended for four and a half years the program and is now a successful graduate of medical school.
My younger child attended for five years and is doing great in the undergraduate program.
At the center my kids attended the instructor helped them a lot when they had questions.
Sometimes they will be at the center for 20 mins or less, sometimes for more than an hour.
This helped greatly my kids but I was required to grade the homework which might not be convenient for some parents.
When we went on vacations we did request the homework in advance and the homework came with us to Europe, Hawaii, etc.
- Progress my kids made
Fired for No Reason
Okay, so I was an employee at the Hazel Dell, WA location until this morning.
I was called this morning by the owner of the branch, and was told that my employment was terminated. No warnings, nothing. Why was I fired? Well, I would love to know that as well.
I was told there was apparently complaints, which I had no knowledge of prior. I worked hard to always do exactly as I was told, and I was made to feel like I was doing the best out of everyone else there. I asked what I specifically did, and the owner told me that they would not disclose that information.
What?!?! Horrible place to work with a toxic owner.

Program not what I expected
Which idiots came up with this
I hate it. I was actually doing packets that were many levels too low.
I was finishing up things like standard deviation and quadratic formulas. in Kumon, they gave the four operations with positive and negative numbers. I learned that before fourth grade. I even wrapped my head around the concept of negative numbers before that.
Kumon also jumps too quickly. On one packet, it went from converting fractions into decimals to the division of mixed numbers. WHAT?!?
It's a stupid thing that piles up stress and anxiety while also being degrading when getting packets you got from months ago because you were trying to get them in on time. I have gone through multiple nights crying my eyes out trying to do it.
I also have ADHD and because of how boring, monotone, and degrading it is, I either avoid it (which ends up wasting thousands of dollars if you do it multiple times) or trying to do it.
it is then where I just stare out a window either crying or observing how a tree sways. Yeah.
In other words, avoid it as if it was a colony of bullet ants.
Preferred solution: To not have it exist in this universe
Good for speedy solving, terrible at teaching.
Kumon is decent, but it barely teaches.
I am enrolled in both Math and English, and currently on J Levels.
The program is mind-numbing and causes frustration all around. For math, you can get exceptionally quick at small things like factorization and solving for X in basic algebra, but when learning about new subjects, they provide the smallest example with no instructions on how the steps were achieved. The math program is constant repetition of problems that are near impossible to solve and even has problems where the tutors can't solve as well. How is a child supposed to do those?
English is terrible after the basic writing and grammar levels. It does not teach anything at all. The levels are just "Read this big paragraph, then rewrite it by hand", passing it off as a summary. Then it'll ask some question like "Why did X know that Y did this?" and you just rewrite a section of the passage that says "X had walked into Y doing the action and stayed hidden."
I wouldn't recommend Kumon after your child begins to learn new concepts in math, when a textbook or other online programs can do it. Do not bother enrolling them into the reading program as well unless they are young and can't form sentences yet with proper grammar.
Kumon- you should know better
I am in the G level of Kumon. So 1st off, when I go to this Kumon, the 1st thing I hear when I get there is the instructors yelling at young kids for talking. Sure, they have an early learning program but you should at least give them, you know , a bit of time to grow up.
Also, I wrote a notice to Kumon about what they can do to help their business and actually help kids. Then they told my mom about "rude comments" when I was trying to help.
Finally, its the work. They just slam the sheet on your desk and say "Do it." When I get corrections back, they don't say a word. They just expect you to figure it out and teach yourself how to do it. When I get there it is dead silence. No communication and when I as for help they just say "Look at the example and do it yourself."
People deserve money by working hard, not slacking off! So please for all parents, don't make the same mistake.
- Couple of months were productive
- Stress built up on children
- Stress put on children during the school year
- Does not focus on problem solving skills
They are thief
- Kumon pactice
- Staffs
