Bad stories

I have an important case about bad stories in Kumon. Hello,I have 9 years and I am from 3 years in Kumon in the English programme and the Maths programme and I had many bad stories in the English programme.

There are hundreds of good stories which can be a substitute to these bad stories. Learning the English programme, I had many bad stories which they had not builded in me nothing good, and even me frightened. We can learn English without these bad stories.

My advice to parents: Do not be happy just by the method itself, also pay attention to the content of every story. Regards, Jakub Drozd

We had our son in kumon who completed secondary school level at age of 9 which helped him a lot in school.

With this experience we had our daughter in different kumon centre as previous centre teacher retired. This centre in Preston opens whenever the instructor could, usually once in 2 weeks with no prior notice or until we ask.

Not responsible for teaching students and poor communication, doesn't update on website. We had pullout at the end

It’s all about luck when choosing a centre for your child

Don't believe everything you read about Kumon. The self-learning, confidence, speed and accuracy all sounds too good to be true.

Unless you have been recommend by a real friend you trust, choosing a 'perfect' centre for your child requires a lot of luck. The truth is, Kumon is a franchise, being a franchise means that the quality of the intructors will vary from centre to centre.

My child had 3 different Kumon instructors. One was pretty good, helping my child to progress quickly to higher level, but the centre is already closed down; one was terrible, starting my child way below 'just right' level, giving out exercises in random on purpose to avoid being suspected to repeating the materials;

The last one was 'honest' about repeating, stating it is 'necessary' procedure to repeat Kumon worksheets to master speed and accuracy, but insisting repeating the whole level when my child has almost finished the level and could have passing the level achievement test without repeating Kumon worksheet. The instructor could have asked my child to repeat the area not very good at, but insisted to repeat from the very beginning.

The truth is, none of the Kumon instructors have provided enough observations during Kumon class and rarely provided any guidance when students struggle at the difficult Kumon problems. When doing advanced level of works, the examples used in Kumon do not help students doing complicated problems, this is mainly because the examples being used are way too simple, not covering the depth of the material. None of the instructors have taught skills about self-learning to students. In fact, for an average students, it is unlikely to self learn difficult task with poorly written examples. More often, students may lose confidence and get confused, and frustrated when doing over repetition on worksheet.

The main reason why instructors starting low level and insisting repititon is about money. They all knew the skills required to master higher level is extremely high, and the material would put off student enjoying high level Kumon. That's why they put students starting at easy level, so that students can enjoy doing it while instructors receiving the money.
