Terrible customer service/ overall utility service
My bill increased dramatically and they basically told me tough sh%*
When I called I received zero help. If you have the option to go with any other gas provider I highly recommend you do that
Preferred solution: Price reduction
Deposit
The deposit is way to high. 200 dollars is way to much. Won’t be getting this service again.
Fees
- Service disconnected; paid full balance including a 110 fee.
- Reconnection took 24 hours; safety concerns if gas issue occurs without nearby tech.
I made a mistake had service disconnected paid balance in full whivh included a 110 fee 55 to shut off and 55 to turn on which is total bs and because there small with only 1 tech had to wait 24 hours to get the service reconnected I asked the rep what happens if I smell gas and tech not in area. Guess family in danger for 24 hours what a total joke. The promblem is no state regulation they can do what ever they want and can charge what ever they want CEO must of needed a pay raise
Knox Energy Charge Review
I have know gas and they won't turn it on and I have health problem
I am a student and the deposit is so expensive.
- Ahmad, a student in Columbus, can't afford a 200 deposit.
- He asks to reduce the deposit to 100 if possible.
Hello, good morning/good afternoon, my name is Ahmad I am a student in Columbus. My problem is about the deposit, you know some students do not have enough money. And there are some of the students do not have a good job.
Actually, i do not have much money to pay the deposit. In fact, i can pay every bill on time , but the deposit is 200 and it is hard to me . Please May you make the deposit less than 200?
really i can pay the deposit if will be 100. Thank you
Charges do not match service
- Knox Energy charges a $15 service fee plus transfer fees, turning $2 gas into $19.23.
- Billing terms like intrastate transfer fees were not explained.
Knox Energy charges ridiculous rates for their "service". For instance, this month I used $2 in gas.
However, with their "service" charge of $15 and "transfer" fees included I was charged $19.23. 89% of my actual use went to overhead! It took me 3x requesting the policy regarding billing to get it, and the the terms used on my bill with regards to charges (intrastate transfer fees) were not readily explained, and no one on the help line or on their web pages could expand. And they claim to be a local company!
Natural gas today is said to be plentiful--Knox Energy does not reflect that in their billing.
I don't like the idea of a single source supplying an area for just this reason--there is no recourse and people are left to foot the bill. As my house was already fitted with gas when I bought it I am stuck for now, but am retooling for thermal/solar.
At the rate they are charging the high end install of these systems will easily be recouped.
- Inflated charges

The phone doesnt work?!
- knox energy line disconnects; I can't contact them.
- Emergency line not working, making it hard to report emergencies or read meters.
Have made repeated attempts to contact know gas and each time the line disconnects. My phone calls everyone elses number fine but neither my nor my roommate can contact knox energy.
Not even with the emergency line. How am I supposed to have someone read the meter in order to avoid a suprise 1000$ gas bill if i cant even make contact with them? Furthermore, how would I report an emergency?! This is total bs.
This ks no way to keep business regardless of whether or not you have the whole county monopolized. Whatever happened to integrity? Or a least a *** working phone line.
Knox gas gets a thumbs down.
Knox Energy in Columbus, OH
- I moved, kept the same utilities; Knox Energy gas charged a $200 deposit.
- The deposit was described as standard for an existing, on-time customer.
I moved one street over to my new home. I kept all the same utility companies and none of them charged me another deposit except Knox Energy (gas).
I am an existing customers, keeping the same account and have always paid my bill on time in the past. Why do I have to pay another $200 deposit?! I placed a call to an unsympathetic representative at the company. She said it was "standard." This is ridiculous! That's not how you treat existing, loyal customers.
If there was another local gas company that I could switch to I would. I am just out of reach to be able to have Columbia Gas.

I have been trying to contact Knox for over a week . Either I get a busy signal or I a put on hold for hrs .
I have actually held the phone for over a hr. in my hand . I think customer service from Knox is a joke .
I have been trying to make sure the service has been terminated from one account , because the house has been sold . I guess I will never no because they don't call back even when you leave a voice mail .
