Bringing home Maximus on March 30, 2025, was supposed to be a dream come true. He was a purebred Maine Coona breed Id long admiredand instantly became part of our family.

Sadly, less than four weeks later, Max passed away after being diagnosed with suspected FIP. We fought to save him with everything we had, including emergency ICU care and antiviral treatment. He was only a baby.

Max had never been exposed to any other animals outside of the kitten he was housed with at the KittensUp storefront. When we submitted our claim on May 2including all medical records, a formal letter from our vet confirming a clinical FIP diagnosis, and over $6,200 in emergency care receiptswe werent asking for a refund.

We asked for a store credit or compromise. We even offered to work things out through his GoFundMe.

Instead, the response we received was cold, contradictory, and deeply disappointing. They denied the diagnosis without waiting for our vets follow-up and cited a contract clause that voided their health guarantee due to a vaccine our vet administeredsomething standard in feline care. But what hurt most was realizing that we never received a copy of the contract in the first place.

And when we asked for it, we were ignored.

They also claimed Max was housed alone, even though we were offered his sibling at the storeproof he was not isolated, as they stated.

We did everything right. We gave Max love, immediate care, and trusted the seller when they told us he was healthy. And when tragedy struck, we tried to handle it with empathy and openness. Instead of compassion, we were met with disclaimers, silence, and blame.

Im sharing Maxs story not to start a fight, but because others deserve to know.

Behind every kitten is a family. Behind every policy should be humanity. And in this case, all we wanted was for Maxs short life to matterto be met with understanding and fairness.

We paid so much to ensure we bought a healthy kitten off a reputable breeder and they will give you a discount, even though we paid $2700 for the kitten and have lost count at over $11,000 in veterinary bills and the permanent disabilities our poor cat who is less than 2 has to live with while the owner is off living the high life not caring about who she rips off! How do we close this company down?
