Kitchen Magic Will Not Work for Single Women

Kitchen Magic in Nazareth, PA would not take my kitchen remodel on be cause I am a single woman. I own my own home, and my name only is on the deed of the house.

KM said that they would not keep the appointment if my husband was not present. I explained that I am not married, and I would be the only person at the appointment. They refused to keep the appointment. I am very disappointed with Kitchen Magic.

They lost a customer and perhaps many more.

I believe that this business practice is sexist and so far off the mark. I could have expected this 50 years ago, but it should never happen now.

Kitchen Magic Refacers, Inc only provides services in Maryland, Virginian & D.C.

I totally agree with you. That is ridiculous

still happening today---

This is not Kitchen Magic Refacers, Inc. but a New Jersey based company called Kitchen Magic, Inc.

Neither company is a franchise or in nay way related.

Kitchen Magic Refacers, Inc. only works in Maryland, DC and Virginia.

Did same to my wife. She made appointment yet when they called her cell to confirm they asked for me.

She explained that this was her phone, that she was the one who called, she is the one who made appointment, she will be one home and she will be taking quote in our behalf. They didn't say any problems with that. Few days later called her cell again, and again asked for me. This time I was home and wondering why do they keep asking for me?!?!.

Wife again advised this appointment made by her, she is who will be home and getting quote. Again they said nothing about that. They finally come yesterday and said won't give her quote without husband present. One of excuses they gave to her was "the husband handles the finance" !!?!?!?

This is not true in our household as I'm true it's not in others. We do things EQUALLY. I called to basically yell at them about this sexist comment and policy and they told me reason husband needs to be there is 'because out quotes are a bit complicated, and we show samples, it's a lot to it' AND?!?! My wife has a masters degree, meaning she has a higher education than I do with my bachelors....

Pretty sure she can handle a *** cabinet quote. But they said that reasoning at least three times on call before I simply hung up in disgust. Empire Flooring is similar in that they come over, measure, show samples, give quotes...

And they all did that without me present. I am shocked Kitchen Magic can have this stance and still be in business

I very been in sales and marketing for 20 years. This is typical for any company.

The are providing a free, no obligation quote. In exchange they are asking all homeowners to be present. Honestly, a company needs to generate revenue. They do this by making sales.

I'm sure your spouse is capable of making the decision but would she without you? Most likely the answer is no. What will usually happens is the person seeing everything will love it. Then this response will happen 9 out of 10 times, "I need to discuss it with my spouse".

Often things are forgotten or lost .

Even when they are not, the consultant will usually have to come a second time, free of charge, to again she the same thing again. When a company offers a free consultation it is normal to have criteria regarding what the company expects of the client receiving the free service.

Horrible Customer Service and Unprofessional Practice

We recently contacted Kitchen Magic Refacers for a kitchen reface cost estimate. My wife spoke on the telephone with the senior designer, Ric Gottschalk. I later found that he is also listed as President of the company. Ric mentioned that an average remodel is $30-50k. My wife articulated that since we were in the process of moving and selling our property, we wanted a quote for the most cost effective way to reface the cabinets and replace the countertop. The treatment my wife received from Ric Gottschalk was unprofessional and offensive. He stated, "if you just want to put *** in then we aren't the people for you". My wife asked him to please refrain from rude language, as she was just explaining that they are comparing options to determine the cost effective measure to upgrade our kitchen. He replied, "Well I'm just calling it what it is, it's ***." She thanked him for calling, but advised that they needed to end the call as she was extremely uncomfortable with his tone and language. I also called Kitchen Magic Refacers in order to obtain Ric's last name and I spoke to Ken Gottschalk who claimed to be the manager of the company. I calmly requested his last name and Ric's last name in order to file a service complaint and he in turn hung up the telephone on me. I do not know the quality of work that Kitchen Magic Refacers provides, but I do know my experience with their personnel was sub-standard at best. Kitchen Magic Refacers has been in business since 1984 but it is clear that they have learned nothing about professionalism or customer service in the past 25 years.

Horrible experience. The rep for what was supposed to be a quote stayed at our place for 4 hours!!!

On a week day! He would not take no for an answer and fought till the very end. Ever been to a time-share seminar? This is exactly what this was like.

He stayed very late and was getting rude as he realized we weren't going to budge.

So sad and ridiculous. For that reason alone I would NEVER do business with them.

Nazareth one is the sexist one...

I worked for these people at one time. Super *** They offer your kid a balloon, get you to fill out a "Contest" slip in the mall for a "Free kitchen".

Too bad there is nothing worthwhile for free. No "free kitchen" for you!

All you will get is a dozen phone calls a week from them. Hope they go out of business.

I too work for this company. I am not family but have been there for more than 20 years.

They have ALWAYS done right by our customers and since day one their motto has been "the customer is always right".

We do have REAL contest winners. I see the names drawn and speak with the people who have won every time.

Perhaps you are just a disgrunted prior employee.

We strive to only keep the best employees here at Kitchen Magic.

do not let these people near your kitchen. after waiting 5 weeks with our kitchen torn up because the wrong doors were ordered, the handles have been installed out of plumb and not level.

The kitchen looks like ***. Do not let these people work on you kitchen.

Do not let these people do work on your kitchen.

After waiting 5 weeks with our kitchen torn up because the wrong doors were ordered the handles have been installed out of plumb and not level with other handles. The kitchen looks like ***. Keep these people away from your kitchen if you dont want it to look worse then before they started.

I have had the same experience with Kitchen Magic, refusing to come to my house to give me an estimate on work unless my husband is home. I would never use them.
