Shelter refuses to transfer contact on microchip

I recently adopted a cat from King Street Cats, and when I tried to transfer the contact information with the company of the microchip, they refused to change their primary contact with mine.

Once I contacted them requesting information, I was explained that they have a policy in place (not disclosed in the adoption form). They are afraid to see cats surrendered and not being aware of it. From that point on, when I objected, they never replied to my emails.

They added me only as alternate contact, but they "forgot" to provide my contact information. How am I supposed to know about my lost pet if the company cannot contact me? Beside, I doubt that the shelter is available 24/7 to answer calls if the pet is lost. What if I move state? What if I move out of the country?

I am seeing soon a lawyer regarding this matter, and I found online that I am not alone with this issue. They refused the same request from other people.
