Unreliable, very Expensive water-source heat pump system
Our complaint is with Kennedy Fuel/Desert Pump in White City, OR In 2011, we needed a new heat pump to replace our aging system. After much consultation, well testing, duct system evaluation, etc; we decided to go with a ground water (well) source heating/AC system manufactured by Bosch as the Aquarius II Premier Series and distributed by FHP Manufacturing out of Fort Lauderdale, FL. We were assured by Barry at Kennedy that our well flow was adequate for this system. We paid them $14,000 to install the system and make several changes to our duct work. That was in June. They had to make a number of adjustments to the system water flow during the summer. In October, the system failed and they made multiple attempts to get it operating correctly, finally succeeding. In December, the system again failed, and our well water level was reduced so much that we lost water to our house. They installed a new 'metering valve', and it worked- until January, 2012. At that point the system froze up and Barry recommended we spend another $2600 to have him install a secondary water tank. We hired a lawyer and threatened to sue him and he finally was able to make the system function again after spending several days working on it. Fast forward to June 2013. When we needed the AC on 100+ days, it failed. Kennedy Fuel installed a new intake valve on the water line, and it worked. Lastly, in November 2013, we experienced a cold snap with temps below 10 deg. at night. The system failed again for over a week, then suddenly started working. We have no idea why, despite having made multiple phone calls to them and relaying 'code' information displayed inside the unit. We are still waiting to hear from Kennedy Fuel regarding a possible cause and needed repair for this latest failure. Thank god we have firewood and a fireplace insert as a backup, or we would have had major problems multiple times over the last two years. The system Barry recommended and installed does not work as promised. Multiple attempts to fix it have not produced lasting results, and every part costs hundreds of dollars to replace. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!! Fair warning. We have contacted the Bosch distributor asking for a referral to another contractor who could analyze the system and provide a reasonable solution. As of today, 1/1/2014, the distributor has not provided that referral.
