Verified ReviewerShady People - Strange Experience with My Child
I've given myself a couple of days to put things into perspective.
I took my teen for her first set of professional braids on Tuesday, 6/21/2022.
I believe the salon is owned by Justine, one of the stylists that was there. An older woman was assigned to braid my daughter's hair, not Justine.
(I believe I heard Justine call her "Mommy" more than once). Both stylists spoke French most of the day.
This older woman seemed determined to try to make the hair braiding experience more painful than necessary (and getting braid extensions can already be painful). I was there for almost the full day (8 hours) of braiding, and her behavior amounted to tugging my teen's head more than necessary (instead of using the spinning chair that my child was sitting in), and patting my daughter's head harder than necessary during the finishing phase once the braids were all installed. This may not sound like a big deal, but anyone who's had braids knows how painful excess pressure can be on your hair and scalp with new braids.
I don't know why this person did these small spiteful things. Nothing we could have done should warrant a business to deliver a service to a child in this way. I'm sickened to think what may have happened if I'd dropped my teen off that morning and ran errands all day. (Both stylists seemed shocked when I asked for a place to sit, so that I could wait for my daughter).
This behavior was senseless, and disgusting.
I don't care about what I paid (I paid what they asked, plus a standard/customary tip).
I am concerned that this older woman's behavior suggests she's done things like this to clients before - just approaching the limits of unacceptable behavior. I do care to prevent this from happening to another mother and child.
- Borderline un-professional behavior
- Unpredictable behavior
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Avoid if you don't want to subject yourself to shady behavior.
