Unsafe Vehicle and Poor Customer Service

NEVER rent a car from this business. They are extremely unsafe vehicles and the owners are out to cheat you. We rented a car for two days that was leaking fuel from a broken fuel hose. We finally found the source of the problem on the second day. The fuel tank was full when we received the car. On the first day, we noticed that the car smelled like fuel. On the second morning, we found that the fuel tank was empty although we only drove 200 km. We filled up the tank. When we got to the Zoo, about 60 km from the marina, we had lost 15 L of fuel. We observed a small fuel puddle beneath the car, but it stopped almost immediately. Apparently this was because we were parked on an hill. We called Jumbo Car and they refused to do anything to help us. They said we had to bring the car back or they would charge us a fee. If we wanted to exchange the defective and dangerous car for a different car, there would also be a fee. We were forced to cancel our plans to go to the beach, shopping, and dinner. We spent 45 euros on fuel and materials to make temporary repairs. While making temporary repairs we noted that the fuel hose appeared to be disintegrating. It was rotten. We managed to make it back to Marin before the temporary repairs failed and the fuel leaked again. We returned the keys in the morning. The Jumbo Car employee, Nicole, insisted that we owed them the full amount for the vehicle even though it only worked for 1 day. They also insisted that we owed them to repair the vehicle even though it was obviously a mechanical fault that was not the result of an accident. The fuel hose is protected by the frame of the car in front of the rear tire, and there was no damage to the frame. We also did not drive over anything that might have caused damage. The hose was cracked, not punctured. We lodged a complaint with the Jumbo Car director and he insisted that the damage was our fault, but he stated that if the engine had broken down and the car had caught on fire that would have been their fault. It makes no logical sense to hold your customers responsible for material faults in an unsafe vehicle. This company does not care for its customer’s safety and they do not maintain their vehicles properly.
