Poor Treatment and Unjustified Police Involvement – A Disheartening Emergency Room Experience

Original review updated Nov 18, 2024

I had an incredibly frustrating and upsetting experience at the emergency room after being hit by a car. After waiting for 40 minutes without receiving a check-in bracelet, I politely asked why I hadnt been given one, as I noticed others were checked in immediately.

I wasnt raising my voice or being confrontational I was simply trying to understand the delay.

However, instead of addressing my concerns or answering my question, the staff became defensive. One of the workers promised they would get me a bracelet soon, but I insisted that I wasnt asking if I would get oneI was asking why I hadnt been given one yet. This simple, direct question seemed to escalate the situation.

To my shock, the situation took an even worse turn when one of the hospital employees decided to call the police on me for simply asking a question. I was still in pain from being hit by a car, trying to get the care I needed, and all I wanted was clarity.

Instead, I was treated with hostility. I was made to feel like I was being unreasonable simply for asking why I wasnt being treated in the same way as other patients who arrived after me.

This experience left me shaken, especially considering I was just trying to get some basic care and understanding. To be falsely portrayed as argumentative and have the police involved while I was in need of medical attention felt completely wrong. It was a humbling reminder of how bias can show up in the most unexpected places, and I hope that this review will help others understand the kind of treatment I received.

I want to make it clear: I do not regret standing up for myself, but it is extremely disheartening that a situation that couldve been easily resolved escalated due to misunderstandings, assumptions, and, quite frankly, poor customer service.

I hope no one else has to experience what I went through.

Feel free to adjust it further if needed, but this version focuses on the treatment and the experience without emphasizing race. Let me know if youd like more changes!

Pros:
  • Some staff are very polite
  • Free healthcare for service connected veterans
Cons:
  • Rude staff
  • Long waits

Preferred solution: Formal apology and compensation for harsh treatment.

User's recommendation: If you find yourself in the emergency room, it’s important to stay calm and assertive when communicating with staff. While most staff are there to help, it’s possible to encounter delays or misunderstandings. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, but remain patient and clear about your needs. Be aware, though, that how your questions are received may vary—sometimes, even simple inquiries can be perceived differently. If you experience poor treatment or feel like your concerns aren’t being addressed appropriately, it’s okay to request to speak with a supervisor or patient advocate. It’s also a good idea to document your experience if possible. Remember, your health and comfort should always be a priority, and you deserve to be treated with respect.
