Biggest Scam Out There...Stay Away for your own good

So basically the first thing you need to know is I am now a working actress and model in the entertainment industry. JRP is a scam, one of the biggest scams out there! In the entertainment industry you do not pay and agency to work for them, they work for you because when you book a job they get a 10-20% of your gross income. JRP makes you pay for unprofessional acting classes , wasting your money. They bribe you into spending your money by stating that Brenda Song is one of their clients. FALSE!!Brenda Song went to ONE open casting call with them and then saw they were a scam so got accepted by a real agency who got her where she is. JRP noticed she was successful and took credit for meeting her onetime. They are not even affiliated with the unions and are always last or not even on the list of agents to call for auditions. They are unloyal and if you were to book a job, maybe one every 3 years...Maybe if your lucky then they would yak a 75% of your gross earnings for them self and leave you a leftover 15% that would need to be put into a Coogan Trust Account...i don't even know if they offer those because they are very unprofessional and probably wouldn't want to give away that they are a scam by letting you realize you were only making 15% percent of your gross earnings. They tell you that they have meetings with Seventeen Magazine and Disney Channel. I hate to break it to you but you don't just walk into a building and get cast on Disney Channel. Getting cast for major principal roles and networks takes many years of training and experience. I can give you advice to submit to union affiliated agencies and see if they have interest in representing you or meeting for an interview! But JRP is not they way to go If you even want a shot at becoming an actor or model. Hope this helps and learn not to believe lies.!!!

Please don't think I'm stupid, cause I'm not. My daughter just went in and was told she was very good and they were excited - now Eden (my daughter) is excited and I'm not sure if this is real or not real.

Don't want Eden to get her heart broken. She wants to go into broadcasting. Is there another route to go for her dream that we aren't aware of?

Thanks for your help. Sarah Vander Zee sarahvz@***.net

My daughter is interested in modeling and acting. Where and how is the best way to get her started?

Anyone with any ideas? Ive been to John Robert Powers, have heard bad things about them, and just not sure.

Guest

I was accepted into jrp. It's such a scam.

I was accepted in one minute. $9000 later, I was nowhere. Please don't fall for this company. It's terrible.

I had to write down everything I ate when I modeled, and was looked down upon because I wasn't a size zero.

Some girls would eat 500 calories a day, and the teacher would applaud how food they are doing... Don't be fooled by them!!!

Guest

I took my children to their event!! the president of the organization audition my children an said they qualify in 1 minute!!

i talk to the sacammer!! he said needed money!!to start!! made me an apointment for next day!!! bing up front cash!!!

full!!no instalments!!and the picture resume is aditional $500.00 bucks!! also if called to a convention!!

i had to pay my family expenses!! but like lots of this type of looking for talent scams we have been to, i know what their r up to!!!...so i put his # on my cell blocked and *** him about calling me or scaming!!

JRP- ripoff

I SAW right through JRP-they pressure you to pay upfront $600-and give you NO CLASS SCHEDULE, NOTHING ABOUT THE TEACHERS, YOU CANT GET ANYONE ON THE PHONE..I read this from ACTIVE STUDIO CHICAGO!! THEY ONLY CHARGE $350 FOR 4HR SESSIONS 6 WKS #1 AVOID "AUDITIONS" THAT ARE ADVERTISED - on the Radio or in the Newspaper The "Modeling/Acting" Agencies advertise "auditions," employ phony talent scouts and typically "call back" everyone who auditions. The "talent" is then told that they are beautiful or marketable or talented, and then high pressure sales tactics are used to get the "talent" to commit to exorbitantly priced classes, not taught by professional acting teachers. A school for modeling is one of the biggest scams, period! When you get picked up by a LEGIT modeling agency like Ford or Elite, they will guide you. They're not going to reject your resume because you don't have any modeling classes. These expensive modeling/acting classes range from $2000 -$3000, and often break down to about $50/hour. A reputable professional acting school/studio typically charges between $275 - $400 per 8 week class; breaking down to $12-$20 /hour.

What is Active Studio Chicago? Sounds like a gym.

What do they teach about acting? Do they teach you how to act in exercise videos?

Guest

Why is it disappointing that so many agencies participate in their events Kelly? Doesn't that speak to their credibility and reputation in the industry that they want to be involved? If they didn't present quality talent why would the agents come?

Guest

I've sent my kids to the jrp in las Vegas which is now owned by ms. Murphy my children have become more well rounded for the entertainment industry they were provided a class schedule as well as info about each teacher and my boys love to go each week they offer an amazing after school program I just love it!!

Guest

I am confused because you say it isn't a scam but how can you say it isn't ehy do you have to pay up front? If it is an audition it should be free and then after if an agent likes you they book you a job if not say hey better luck next time.

Guest

I remember looking up John Robert Powers before I started working for them, and I was skeptical about it at first. But after my first weekend coaching, I fell in love with it.

If parents look at this as a sport, it is worth it. I have been a professional actor, model, and vocalist for 10 years with 2 years coaching. The confidence and change of lifestyle that occur within each child's life after my classes should be worth it to ANY parent or guardian. Most parents don't believe in their children, and the classes that I teach change parents minds about these reviews.

Plus...JOHN ROBERT POWERS is not a scam, but some franchises might be. Each JRP is independently owned and operated.

Guest

Agree, it is a shame that this company is allowed to continue playing on children's dreams. What is so disappointing is that there are so many agencies that participate in JRP events (such as ipop or audition extravaganza).

John Robert Powers is a TOTAL Scam Stay away from KJ

We signed up our daughter for John Robert Powers in Chicago, after an "audition" where they basically accepted everyone. We saw all the bad reviews, but decided to move forward anyway. BIG MISTAKE. They leverage the kids against their parents, telling them that they are going to be "noticed" by major Hollywood and New York agents, etc., After $2400 and several lessons, most of the kids looked WORSE than their auditions. So, we got out. Then, today, they charged another $200 against our credit card, saying that we still had to pay for more "consultations".... total ***! THIS IS IN ADDITION TO THE $400 WE PAID FOR SESSIONS WE NEVER GOT. Stay away from JRP and the black lady who works there... KJ is her name. She got our credit card and is using it WITHOUT our authorization!!!

Lol @ kj posting on this. Trying to say her and the company's reputation.

Why don't you guys take that time and energy and teach our kids how to act and model?

Isn't that what we pay you for?? With you people its....*screw the kids save the company!!* one day all you losers will get what's coming to you...remember KARMA sucks!!!

Guest

Wow, what a racist and ignorant post. Perhaps you should read your paperwork and contract instead of spouting off bigoted, defamatory, and *** comments under the anonymity of the internet. If what you're saying is true why not call the police?

Guest

Having been a student at JRP I know for a fact that you sign paperwork authorizing them to charge your card for payments due. If you never cancelled your contract she's supposed to still charge your card.

It's also very unprofessional to call someone out like this when she's just doing her job. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Guest

Thank you for posting your experiences. Is a clear view on what type of people you will be dealing with.

No better way to stop abusers than this.

Why to waste time calling the police, when you are truthful and correct, go ahead, and let people know. Karma is real.

mia c Vei

rather than posting it here, why don't you just talked to your bank or your lawyer about it ? do you think posting it here will solve it?

oh my... look, putting other people's name and such is the BIG MISTAKE because it's their credibility you're ruining.

you could have just talked to her or something like that. think first before you act and posts stuff like this.

Guest

I've known KJ for months now and she would never just charge someone's credit card without contractual consent. This whole accusation sounds to me like you didn't read the contract you signed. Like KJ already stated if she DID in fact run your card without permission why haven't you contacted the police?

Guest

If this was true, why haven't you called the police??? instead of "complaining" on a website.

The fact is, you have authorized the charges, and have a contract. You have not cancelled the contract.

That being said, i know who you are and this is Defamation, which is illegal and chargeable. You will be hearing from my lawyer.

The owner Michael is questionable and hostile

Everyone who worked for JRP in Baltimore and had wages withheld by him, Did NOT receive a W-2 for taxes which meant he pocketed the money and had his own taxes done. He isn't honest about the business nor the talent. Its greed, greed, and more greed!!!!! IRS should pursue him! He is known to harass and intimidate you into getting what he wants and will go to great lengths to make it very difficult to get things done right. He is confused on the ethics and the talent suffers greatly. No real representation when it comes to getting feedback from agents whom are invited to the auditions when you are show casing your talent. Its as if the process isn't completed to the fullest extent that would help benefit the company and the talent so that it continues to grow and be what the Legend John Robert Powers intended it to be before he passed away. The Lengendary John Robert Powers would be very disappointed if he knew what was going on with his company as different people franchise his name, the business for their own selfish gain! Not good at all. What an awful experience it has been for so many honest people who really have a passion to be in the entertainment industry and get discovered! Dreams can still come true!!

they even warn u of predators like JRP Active stuido director says...

#1 AVOID “AUDITIONS” THAT ARE ADVERTISED - on the Radio or in the Newspaper hese expensive modeling/acting classes range from $2000 -$3000, and often break down to about $50/hour. They are a scam because they wouldn't return your phone calls? Maybe the did not want to work with you.

Look at your incoherent childish rant. At some point, you need to take responsibility for yourself, your actions, your writing for certain, and don't expect for everyone else to pay for your childs hobbies.

John robert Powers New York

I have no idea what these people are talking about! Every single JRP is individulally owned.

My daughter attends the JRP in Manhattan on 33rd st. She was trying to get into the business for so long. We went to all those so called marketing companies that say they send out your pictures or make you maintain a website. NOTHING came of any or it!!!!!!

When we went to audition for JRP NY we were skeptical. When I met with the talent director Debbie she was very honest with us. She didn't pretend or guarantee anything other than the best training and the opportunity to meet the top agents in NYC 2xs a month. I signed my daughter up for the least expensive program and Debbie didn't push us to do more.

Well 3 months later my daughter is signed with Abrams Artists, one of the best agencies in the country!!!! Thank You Debbie and JRP NY!!!!!!

JRP is a total scam. I worked for a few weeks as a "talent scout" for them at an office in orange county, CA. Talent agent means salesperson. I had never acted or modeled or had any idea what it took to do either. Every person who came in were "auditioned" which involved "videotaping" them and having them read lines etc. Then the next day every person who came in was called and told they had what it took but that there were only a few available spots left in the "division" they were in (ex. Asian children 8-10 yrs etc.). They got a call the next day from the "head talent scout" who was the sales manager who would tell them they had to come in the next day if they wanted to get into one of the final spots. The rest of the salespeople would sit around and laugh at all the B.S. the sales manager was saying to the people. When they came in the next day the salespeople sold them on classes/photoshoots etc. and earned commision on what they sold.

Nobody reviewed those videotapes . .in fact for several weeks the video tape machine wasn't even working and we would just push a button for the "audition" pretending they were being videotaped when in fact the thing wasn't even on. The whole thing was totally sad and I left after only a few weeks cause I couldn't stomach how sick the whole thing was.

I have many other stories/instances which illistrate what a complete and total scam this deal is but I don't want to type forever

My mother had me attend john robert powers as a kid. Every single thing you stated above is exactly what happened to me & my friend.

Lets just say $2000 later and several trips to LA did absolutely nothing for my acting or singing career. Other than being an extra for the show "Touched by an angel" . Total scan artists and it's so sad that they get children to believe they really have a chance to be stars. Some of the people that I attended classes with had absolutely no talent and couldn't even speak proper English.

My modeling teacher told me I had to be a size 00 to even think I could model.

Only to find out the skinny *** was never even a model herself. John Robert powers is incredible & will scam anyone who walks in.

Guest

haha, you got owned.

To the lady that posted this, congrats on Abrams Artists, they are top notch. I wish I had an agency that good, but I don't.

A Big Scheme

John Robert Powers School out of Memphis (Cardova), Tenn, is not what it's cracked up to be, big promises, nasty attitudes and no delivery. It's a money scheme. Parents if your kid has talent seek an agent and not John Robert Powers. it's amazing that they think children are wonderful until the money is paid ang then it's nothing all children are group in one big room with one person doing the same things It's crazy but funny so I guess the joke is on the parents. John Robert Powers does not need to be in business.

John Robert Powers Canada CLOSING

The John Robert Powers schools (JRP) are apparently now bankrupt and will be closing at the end of April. The Montreal school closed in February, the Vancouver and Calgary schools are in the process of closing and Toronto is expected to close within a few months. This closure leaves hundreds of families without the services they paid thousands of dollars for. In addition, there are numerous families that registered for classes, paid in full, cancelled their contracts and are currently awaiting reimbursement. These people will never receive a refund from the company, despite never receiving service.

However, the owners of those schools have now opened Rock Star Academy (www.rsaacademy.com), located at 475 Granville Street. This is a talent school, similar to that of the aforementioned John Robert Powers. The kicker is that they have done lots of work developing a scripted-reality TV show, of the same name. The school is using as bait to lure families in to their open auditions, as they are told they are auditioning for the TV show, but are then sold acting and singing packages costing thousands of dollars.

They also have been traveling to smaller cities, selling classes under the names of the Youth Film Academy (located in Vienna, VA) and are selling attendance at the International Presentation of Performers (iPOP) talent convention in Los Angeles.

I can tell you that their only concern is lining their pockets. There is no concern for the creative development of their clients.

I was a teacher working in Toronto, and can assure you they are scam artists.

I was a teacher at JRP for almost a year. Yes they are a scam in terms of how they run their business etc which is why I left..

however a few of the instructors including myself when I worked there really are good and they do care and give quality classes.. that being said not all of them are on that level and the cost of the courses are too high unless you are a privileged income family which many were but ultimately the company lacks proper screening of talent coach's as well as students.. they will accept any student who is willing to pay the price.. Also for those who know little abot the business it doesnt guarantee anything..

you can have all of the training in the world but if that training isnt up to standard or costs you all of your money there is no point because being an actor is like owning a business.. yes you need to invest money to better yourself and for brand image but ultimately regardless of training its about the individuals willingness to sacrifice and dedicate themselves to the craft.. believe me I know I'm a professional working in the industry as an actor and in the audition room alot of those things dont mean anything..

what matters is having the basic training you can learn yourself or through various smaller scale workshop classes or theatre class in high school which is free and having the confidence in yourself to be comfortable in your own skin.. after that you learn thru experience of being in the industry and each audition is a learning experience if you pay attention.

Guest

I went to JRP Toronto when I was in high school (about 5 years ago) and I did the one year program and also went to iPOP Los Angeles in 2007 I believe. I didn't really get anywhere from the process but I also say that because I didn't actively look for representation afterwards because I wanted to focus on school.

I have one friend who became quite successful but I highly doubt he will attribute it to JRP. (Raymond Ablack is his name, he is on Degrassi, etc.)

Guest

Does anyone know the trustee for John Robert Powers

I think you should google search mime eddy, and how many different names she has sold classes under, google search george caceras lawsuit, bankruptcy, etc.

Guest

I called Rockstar Academy and spoke with Mimi myself. She informed me that this was not a scam and challenged me to go online and find someone that has gone through with Rockstar Academy, and felt in anyway ripped off.

She offered me $1,000,000 if I am able to find one person.

Please only contact me if you have seriously gone through the program and have been truly ripped off. E-mail - bstarr714@***.com

So I was just invited to join classes at RSA. Is this for sure a scam?

Cause the prices do seem quite outrageous. I will calling them and discussing the reviews I have read.

Thank you all

Guest

George Caceras at the RockStar Academy in Vancouver. He was the owner of JRP Canada. He is a really nice guy, I am sure he would be able to help with refunds or coaching for all of the Canadian clients whose JRP office closed.

Guest

That sounds like a fantastic plan, and you are just the one to do it.

why you are posting something about Barbizon on a JRP thread.

Sounds like you got screwed, that is too bad.

Guest

This is how it went!

Approached in a mall and given an invitation card. Went to the place and had to watch a boring vidoe and it kept talking about investment! My child had to go do a practice runway and then stood in a long long for an inteview. I was told to be quiet and my child was not even 10!

So, we waited for a call back to see if my child was accepted for Barbizon. The calls were not supposed to be any later than 7. We waited and no call. So, we went on doing our own thing and I checked my messages and they called. So we called back but said sorry since you didnt answer we went to the next perosn! WTF??? So, I argued about how that is not fair! So, they let my child in and we were NOT given the option for a payment plan! So, we paid the $2,000 right then and there. Barbizon is just a school and had a blast! Except they got NO experience for fashion shows or anything! They did NOT even give the make up kits like promised in the contract! Also we found out that you can't go to any Barbizon if you move! We had such a hard time for them to let us go to redo (make up classes for the ones missed).

Garduation day came and that day the make up artist never showed! They hired so lady to do the hair and the photographer was very late! So, everything had to be done backwards and it was a HOT MESS!

The photogragper was not dressed very decent either (holey shirt and etc.) They each only had 2 mins of picture time. Then, they had the graduation (your own clothing) and following was the interview my some talent agent. The interview was the slate, runway, and commercial.

After that you were handed a lot of papers and had to scedule a one on one interview with the agent. (every one got that)

Well, we went and my time was taken up by the person before me. My time was cut short to only 15 mins, and it was supposed to be an hr! Also that 15 mins was interupted by calls she said she had to take because it was another parent! She gave the computer to me to scroll through the pictures on my own!

Was picked for high fashion.

So then the process began and it went to *** very fast!

The instrutors try to force acting on you, they are rude, they yell at the children, get in their faces, and etc.

You are told about things at the very last minute. We had to find outfits that fit their list to the exact in 1 week! Plus the potos were $550 if you bought that day and $900 if you wanted a payment plan.

They they complained if the attire was not what they wanted but yet they only gave you actually less than a week. (6 days) SO, they had to deal with the best I could get!

You are not allowed to watch not even 5 mins like you were told you could as a parent!

Oh and there is more! We were told we could not talk or ask the instrutors questions and if you did you were a stage parent!

We were not all owed to talk and emails were being deleted with out being read! I have proof of everything!

We were told we had to pay the full amount of $10,000 by that next Friday (for June 2011 IPAS) Yet the contract had another date on it! We were also not told it had to be paid in full before attending. They violated contracts!

They told ones they could no longer go to classes like they said we could. Their excuss for us is that we were not paying payments but WE WERE the entire time! I also have proof of this!

DO NOT DO IT RUN AWAY

John Robert Powers... Take it for what it is!

I just have to say something positive about JRP. There is all the negative things about JRP and John Casablancas, etc.... I actually have worked at all of them. All over the US. I am an experienced model and actor and I got my start from one of these schools. If I had NEVER gone, I would not be the success I am today. I have been in this industry for 15 years now and have traveled all over the world and for this I am grateful for a modeling school! Now, I have to say that these are schools!!! yes! They are not a talent agency but from actually working there as an instructor I can say they do have legit auditions! This is the way I was ablel to step into this industry. Many years back I was going to one of these schools and the best model agency at that time in milan came to scout! I ended up leaving a few weeks later and going to Milan and that was the beginning of a very very long and extremely successful career that is still going on to this day. The schools I have taught at might be just the very few that are really really good. There are some however that I have heard about that don't have experienced instructors or just maybe do not care. But I must proudly say that the few I have been involved in thru out the years have all had very well educated and experienced instructors and photographers, etc. They are about money, this is true. BUT like many other jobs and careers, wouldn't you want to know a little bit more about what this career is like before jumping 100% into it? I enjoyed my job so much at these schools. I had many of my students send me the sweetest letters and make a point to tell me how much their lives have changed since coming to the classes. The most thrilling feeling was when the parents told me how much their kids have changed. Mainly with self esteem and manners. So what I used to tell the parents is that these classes, courses, whatever you may call them.... use them as a fun way of letting your child grow into themselves... For example. .learning to audition... learning commercials and having to memorize them and say them in front of your peers really helps you prepare for the real world, etc. I have actually seen quite a few of the students get invloved in the modeling and acting world after they complete or during the classes. Ive seen some go all over the world and if it was not for the courses they took (and also maybe having a great coach) they would not have even been able to do this or have the confindence to continue or even audition for an agency, etc. I am no longer invloved with any of these schools. So this is not to try to get anyone to sign up, etc. There are some schools that are def big scams but if you can afford to and you research the particular school you are interested in and it sounds like a great learning experience for your child, or even for you as an adult, I think its a great thing! I just hate seeing all this bad stuff about all these schools. I felt like I needed to say something positive. Just know what you are getting yourself into. Know it is not an agency and that yes, it will cost you money. No, it is NOT a guarantee. But its def a great experience, and you never know what could come of it! If anyone has any further questions about this or anything in the acting and modeling industry I'd be more than happy to answer.

I went to JRP Long Island in Westbury for years. I went to the iPOP event for acting and singing and ended up leaving with 6 contracts in total for these two things and an additional MODELING contract!!!!

It was amazing and the memories I have from the beginning are too. I've been in commercials, on the radio, modeled in 5 fashion week events including coach and dolce & gabbana...

my agents still encourage me to take classes from time to time to touch up on my skills, and its great because even though I am in college now the flexible schedule that JRP has makes it easy to do things like that. best choice ever

Guest

Having had two children who have been in theatre all their lives, I am impressed with the thourghness of the audition my son participated in. It has achieved an ojective we were hoping for.

For our son to finally chase his dreams. I am impressed that the classes are on the weekend which helps with his work schedule. There will always be complaints and naysayers. I have read the complaints and praises.

I have also investigated the company through the better businesses websites for each state. Just as there are good schools and poor schools, each must be investigated.

So we will see what this brings forth. Keeping the blinders off and looking closely.

Guest

You worked at ALL of them ? Really ?

I found over 75 different offices ! Another one that's full of *** !

This marketing technique is similar to the fish bowls you find in business that say "Win a free month gym membership!" When in reality every name in the bowl gets "selected". The radio ad insinuates that they are screening for talent when they're really screening for checkbooks.

They build these aspiring kids up and make them feel glamorous and then hit the parents up for 2 grand. My 11 year old daughter came home practicing signing her autograph. She is now talking about selling things in her room to help fund this. Now how do I go to my little daddy's girl and tell her I simply don't have two thousand dollars to fund this bogus crock of ***?

It's a malicious way to do business and I honestly don't know how to tell her. She's an extraordinary little girl.

Now for some of you spineless commenters that want to say things like "maybe your child sucks": I would love for you to make such comments to my face.

You are such a sell-out loser internet bully. I guarantee you have a financial interest in this facade and I guarantee you would never make such a comment to my face lest you end up with a hillbilly nose-job.

I have worked with JRP for years (not for them), and some franchises were fantastic, some were a bit of a joke. I have found Long Island to be one of the better ones, and since they are in New York, that is the reason they can have so many agency auditions. I wish I could vouch for all the JRP's, but some I visited I knew I would never go back, but the owner's of the worst ones seem to have closed up shop, and only the decent to good offices are still open.

Guest

Do you have any idea about the John Powers School in Westbury Long Island? They made it seem like they only chose children that they feel haev a chance and that are unlike other children in their category.Additionally, are the audition twoce a month REAL???

Guest

My daughter has been excepted as a career, but I am having a hard time coming up with the money. I didn't realize it would be so much. Do you think it really is worth pushing for, and getting the money together.

Guest

I am sickened by you negative people..doubtful one you poor thing..maybe your child just sucks and has no talent and u just want someone else to blame it on.. The only reason your child or selves did not make it big time is because you gave up..I was a student at one of the jrp schools and met a lot of parents like u..just get over the fact your either too lazy to be consistant with your child or maybe your childs heart really isn't in it and your one of those forcing them to go..

Either way NO ONE has gotten famous off of one audition.. But in my experience jrp has opened a lot of doors but only bc of my consistency.

Acting, modeling, dancing all come with heart and every parent is pissed when OMG its been a month and my child still hasn't caught a big break..no *** sherlock. Welcome to the real world of the talent world..if it was THAT easy we'd all be famous

Guest

You "know" several people who make a living putting up phony comments? Are you one of them?

Because that is obviously a lie.

You are just another snide little coward feeling like a big shot because you are trying to sound knowledgeable on a meaningless website. People like you are pathetic.

Guest

Ha. No.

Was not paid to post my comment.

Just was trying to say at least one positive thing about JRP. It's been quite a few years since I was involved so it could have all changed.

It's obvious you are the same person responding to all the complaints. Hhmmm could you be an owner? I have noticed that you do not have a real response to these complaints. All you do is rag on their punctuation, imply they are poor, and tell them they are bad parents. If the company was legitimate you would not need to resort to trying to make them feel like fools in defense. You would have a real defense. But you don't.

PS it's "you're the adult" not "your the adult."

So your defense tacticts are laughable too.

Haha!

Guest

Look at how you rant incoherently. Lord help your child that she grows up with some sort of normalcy, and ability to type, write, and communicate effectively.

Take some responsibility for yourself, and quit blaming your failures on a company that sells acting classes. If you cant afford it, big deal. Your the adult, you are the Mother, you are responsible, life's rewards do not fall from the sky, nor bestowed upon by some random company. Get.

John Robert Powers -- complete scam!!!

They are a complete scam. They want you to shell out ten thousand dollars to START the program!

Oh and you have two days to make the decision. I didn't go to the call back on Sunday and "Jeff" texted me on monday morning telling me that today was his last day in town and was still signing kids up for the showcase. I told him that I had reservations about spending all that money and that we really couldn't afford it without some type of scholarship, tuition waiver, something. All of the sudden he sends me a text saying that her spot was already filled and that there was no need to move forward with me because of my "bad communication" Are you kidding me?????

All I said was that I didn't think we could afford it. That shows you what kind of company they are right there. If you don't want to shell out THOUSANDS of dollars right away with two days to make the decision they kick you to the curb. An company like that that pushes you to make HUGE, life changing decisions is either sleazy or a scam.

He then proceeds to text me for the rest of the day saying that I am a "momager", immature, etc. Then in the end he tells me that he would never work with me and it was a shame because he has a few families that were income eligible to do it for free?!?!!?!?! That was all I asked about in the beginning!!! I was not rude, mean, anything!

I was very polite and was treated TERRIBLY! They try to take advantage of people and try to get little girls hopes up by saying they work for Disney, Twilight, Nickelodeon, etc. so they guilt their parents into it, in addition to their guilt.

Also, I don't know if it's true but I have read in several places that Disney, Nickelodeon and Twilight are all suing them for using their names, etc. I would not recommend them to my enemy!!!

Hi Mr. Sievers,

It was a very rewarding experience to get the chance to work with someone as professional as your company.

CJ has aspired to be an actor since he was 4 years old. You have put that shine of brightness back into his eyes. You have touched his creative energy to continue his dream of becoming the next Denzel Washington!!

CJ lost his spirit of life when he lost his father a few years ago.

You have given him hope and rekindled his creative side his father fostered inside of him. I can never thank you enough. You were a God sent. We love you and will never forget what your company has done for our lives.

Thank you for giving my son hope and redefining his faith in himself.

JRP (John Robert Powers) and IGT Talent showcase was exceptionally instrumental in providing my daughter an opportunity of a lifetime in positioning her at the next level in fulfilling her dreams as a new young actress.  My daughter was initially scouted out as a talent worthy of succeeding in Hollywood by IGT/ JRP and through success in their program she has won the opportunity to compete in iPOP showcase where she got the chance to meet some of the best agents, casting directors and managers in the industry.  This all happen through IGT/ JRP under the auspices of Jeff Sievers and his wonderful staff.  Truly grateful for your guidance, support and leadership throughout the process

This is Jeff Sievers and I am posting this because I want to address the negative posts that were posted a couple years ago in the hope of clearing up some of the misleading information. First let me start by saying that my heart and passion have always been to give kids and young people a positive experience that would motivate and inspire them even more to continue in the performing arts or entertainment business.

I enjoy educating and guiding anyone that has a desire or dream to be in the arts. Up until my daughter passed away in 2012 I had absolutely zero negativity. When I made the decision to leave and not partner with certain individuals in the business because I did not agree with some of their business practices they chose to use my “dead daughter” as platform to destroy me and eliminate me as a possible competitor or threat. They also pulled back any funding in order to pay any staff or agents that helped or attended.

Which fell on my shoulders and I do apologize to anyone and everyone that has felt they were a victim from all of this. It states that I was “fired” from IPOP and JRP because of so many complaints. I was never fired, I made the decision to leave because of the issues that came up after my daughter passed that I did not agree with. I then went on to launch my own company Shine Competition in an attempt to continue to help kids and give them a positive experience in the business while at the same time spreading my daughters message that she shared with me before she passed.

Yes, my event did cost money like any of the other conventions or workshops out there. However, if you happened to be sitting in the seminar when I spoke during Shine Competition I showed a video of my daughter and shared her message and made it very clear that weather or not you decided to participate that my prayer was you walked away inspired by her message. In no way shape or form would I or have I used her passing to make money. She is my daughter and I will always be proud of her.

She had a message that she asked me to share so she felt a sense of purpose and so I did. I do not regret or will not apologize for that. Unfortunately we can not control the internet and what people say or post. It is an open forum for free speech even if its a competitor using false names to defame someone.

That posting was posted under a fake name “Vera” by someone that has worked with me and obviously felt threatened when I came into their “territory, “ Canada. On the other site “pissed consumer” the complaint under my name is not even me its another Jeff that was in the business and I would never treat someone terribly or call them names because they can’t afford something. On the contrary I would try my best to help work it out or on many occasions I would give a free workshop or something so they didn’t walk away empty handed. I am including letters from parents and children hospital that I received during the same time the negativity was posted.

I apologize to anyone that has felt victimized by this industry in any way shape or form especially to the families that have felt that way if you attended any program I was involved in. I want everyone from kids to parents to always have a positive experience that motivates them more to continue the pursuit of their dream.

What Are People Saying –

Your showcases are an amazing way for talent of all ages to express themselves in a way that caters to each one’s strong points. It provides a safe and creative environment for kids to express themselves and share their God given gifts and abilities with a very lucky audience – Courtney Prince BMG Global

The decision we made to join with JRP was fraught with a tremendous amount of negative publicity and skepticism on behalf of others. However, your opening remarks that embraced strong family values and work ethic won us over.

You and your dad spent the time with us and answered all of our questions. You both exemplify true professionals in this business. And this carries forward in your selection of the coaches and photographer in Akron. They are top notch!

We appreciate the opportunity of working with JRP Atlanta. Again, thank you both for selecting Jordan and Brooklyn and giving them the opportunity to showcase their talents, and taking the time to guide us in our future efforts. – Harold & Laura Graves Akron, OH

My experience at the Charleston showcase was amazing. The kid’s put on a show that was not only entertaining but I was able to see them perform in a very relaxed atmosphere.

This is a great way to find new talent for our roster and I look forward to the next event. - Julia Martin CLICK MODELS & J Pervis Talent LETTER FROM A PARENT- We heard the advertisement on the radio and decided to make the call. We really didn't know what to expect at a regional talent scouting call out, and we were shocked at the number of people who attended the auditions! It was overwhelming!

The entire process can be confusing and shocking and the initial outlay of expenses can be scary. However, once we got beyond those hurdles, and we made the decision to participate in the showcase after being selected, we were very excited! The instructors were top notch. My daughter's experience was fun and exciting and gave her the opportunity to learn about her area of interest but also the opportunity to perform.

The regional showcase landed her a spot as new talent with a Regional Agency in Ohio and KY. If you are a skeptic, I would highly encourage you to listen closely to what these directors have to say. The talent selected to attend IPOP from our region was top notch. The Directors ability to scout talent after years in this industry is spot on.

Attending the IGT/JRP regional showcase and IPOP was the best decision we made. We felt very blessed with the amount of exposure we received from the industry people who attended, but even if we hadn't been quite so fortunate, the cost of attending is well worth it. As a parent, you are paying to educate yourself about the industry and paying for your child to experience the industry. It was crazy exciting but also downright fun!

I was amazed with the spirit of the event- all those beautiful and talented kids, each and every one with the same goal, but yet supportive of each other and forging friendships that will last beyond that moment. The IGT/JRP & IPOP Directors and Administrators were wonderful and run a stellar event. They were friendly, helpful, always available, and genuinely concerned about the children always "having fun and displaying your talent to your potential." My advice to any parent new to the IGT & JRP Showcase experience is this: As a parent you need to do your job- talk with your child, educate yourself, be willing to invest in the experience, know your responsibilities, and when it's time, let the directors and industry folks do their jobs instructing your kids so they can live their dream. Diane Anglen Daughter of Sarah Anglen, Age 13, IPOP LA #2602 Top Teen Model of the Year Hi Jeff, just want to drop you a few lines regarding the Birmingham talent showcase.

We just got home a couple of hours ago and we are still in awh of the entire experience! Words that readily come to mind are: Wow, Grace, Mercy, Obedience, Perserverance, Patience, Passion, Prayer, Ambition, Determination, Meaningful, Organized....and the list could go on and on. Being a part of a small talent group gave the participants a chance to be known for who they were. It allowed their individual personalities to shine.

It gave them an opportunity to be known as a "person" and not just be a "number" amongst hundreds. They were not just pushed through like cattle rather they were coached by people in the industry which made their performances today be all the more great. I want to personally thank JRP International for the opportunity of a life time for my son Eric!!!!! His reviews by the agents were great, they loved him.

The IPOP representative's critique was encouraging and honest. He did receive and invitation to the IPOP convention this Summer in California, and we are soooo poud of him!! The entire experience from start to finish has been just awesome!!! Keep doing what you do, making a difference in people's lives, situations and their circumstances :-) Again, thank you!!

– Sophia Brown – Daughter Journee Tabitha and Jeff I just wanted to thank both of you for everything you have done for us. Jenny and Kevin had a lot of fun at i-pop and we learned so much for that experience and I just wanted to say to you both did a wonderful job keeping everything going at the i-pop show. I realize you both had lots of responsibilities and lots of people to take care of. I thought Brandon did a fantastic job you had the right person helping you.

He was a great teacher and motivator and just a great guy. He knew how to control things when there was a problem. Jenny and Kevin enjoyed working with him also. Tabitha you did a great job also—you were working your tail off and I was impressed on how well you could remember everything and all the things that you had to do.

WOW. Hats off to you-fantastic job accomplished. Jeff you also did a wonderful job. Trying to keep everything going smoothly I was also impressed on how calm and relaxed you were and everything just fell in place.

You all did a great job and you should feel good about your selves. The i-pop show was much more than a show we gained some friends and learned a lot. I realize that Tiffany and Joseph had a lot of thing to put together for the show. They are incredible people to help these kids accomplish their dreams all in a couple of days.

Everyone there did a great job to make everything possible. What a Fun week and worth every penny we had invested. Thanks for taking time out and talking to us and helping us with our needs, this meant a lot. Thanks for everything and we hope to see you in the future.

If I Got Talent / JRP comes to Wisconsin again please let us know so we can send some more people your way…. Have a Happy Valentine’s Day and Thanks so much - Laurie Vander Heiden (Oshkosh Group) I wanted to thank you for your help and guidance during the IGT and JRP rehearsals and talent show. You were so much help and without you I certainly would not have made it as far as I did. You brought out the confidence in myself that I was unaware of and for that I am very grateful.

I wish you the best in all that you do. Thanks so much again! – Eric Taylor Columbus , OH Amy and I want to thank you again for giving Seth this opportunity. We want so badly for him to succeed and feel good about who he is and what he has accomplished.

This is truly something Seth needs/needed in his life. Honestly we went directly to church and gave thanks for you and for everything that’s happened. You have 100% of our support and will do everything humanly possible to encourage Seth’s success. – Matt Nichols Milwaukee, WI Dear Mr Sievers, Thank you for arranging to have a performance of the “I Got Talent” showcase for patients and families at the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital on February 5, 2012.

The young people who performed were all very professional and enthusiastic and that was contagious for the audience. For hospitalized children the feelings of isolation and boredom can have a negative impact on their healing. Opportunities for social interaction and fun diversional activities can make a real positive difference. I received many positive comments from families and staff that were able to attend Sunday’s performance.

They enjoyed the feeling of being in their very own reality show without the judges! Watching other young people perform can be a real encouragement to those with similar hopes and dreams. Thank you for bringing this positive energy and talent to our patients and their families.

We believe that there are definite health benefits that come through the performing arts! Sincerely, Gwen Senio, Manager Child Life Program University of Iowa Children’s Hospital 200 Hawkins Drive Iowa City, Iowa 52242

I have personally been a friend and colleague of Jeff Sievers for over 6 years and I must say that his intentions have always been the best at heart. The experience of the parents and children and integrity of the program have always been the best interest of the company and of Jeff Sievers.

It is unfortunate that other individuals at other companies who also showcase talent view Jeff as a threat and are completely attempting to defame his character.

Please be aware Jeff Sievers is now swindling under a new company name I am a Star project aka kids got talent and the big show

I used to work at JRP Calgary Montreal and Toronto and oh my god I felt dirty the whole time I was there! U r supposed to do a mini commercial and of course the best commercials go through.

Well that's not the case. It all depends on your parents occupation. We were told to not even review the tapes! If u think that's bad if both parents had low paying jobs they got thrown away!

Although u r there to think that u beat out a bunch of people over half are accepted and we were supposed to tell the parents when they called back the next day that if they had a minimum of 2000 we would accept that kid regardless. Mimi is one of the owners and she is pure ***!

My parents fought with Farinaz Farzadnia at JRP Calgary also. They had a huge screaming match at their office and then she called the police. If she had given them their money back it wouldn't have happened.

Farinaz lied and stole my parents $500!

I didn't write this.

This is obviously written by Farinaz Farzadnia.

WARNING FROM ACTIVE STUDIOS..ABOUT PREDATORS LIKE J R P!!!

Guest

both of my parents have a very low income, but they dicided to give me a scholar ship and work with what we have. they were very nice about it.and were willing to let us pay when we can and how much we could and it didnt seem like a scam at all!

Guest

Like people can't tell you work for J R. How else would you troll's know that not even said person was fired. Who's the dummy now?

Guest

Definintly a scan, had auditions yesterday. The guy said he wanted me because I was "it" and "gorgeous" and said he could tell just by looking at me that I was "talented" really?

I didnt even do my monologe or sing?

And all of a sudden I'm amazing? Ya right and then they wanted $6000 like really?

Guest

My son and I want there. He was choosen through all those auditions.

He win, they wanted him...

The thing they don't tell you though... it's that it cost 6000 $ to go to that school if they choose you...

Guest

So - calling someone scummy for being employed by a an unethical employer???Really? I guess your job has been blessed with only the best and you have never fallen into bad luck.

What the Scam Scam Scam person is saying is true about the audition process. I don't see your name listed in your comments so I guess you can anonymously bash people as well and nowhere in the Scam scam scam post do they mention being fired by any peoples.

Actually it all worth it.!!. I went to jrp and in the process if becoming the next big thing i have to agents !

Jrp virginia made it possible!

!.,jrp is NOT a agency its a ACTING ,MODELING,SINGING ,AND DANCING CLASSES to help u get an agency at a showcase yeah it cost money but thats what j should have expected because its a CLASS!,mostbof the people that arevtrying to bash them saying its a scam are the ones who disnt make it through the first cut!!!

Some people might have went to the one where they pose as jrp but all i lnow is they ate legit!! :)

Guest

I have many other stories/instances which illistrate what a complete and total scam this deal is but I don't want to type forever.

Guest

You are absolutely incorrect. Brenda Song went to the JRP in Sacramento California, and not only has not denied it, but appeared at events and in photo's with the Owner of JRP International.

Either you are too misinformed to be giving commentary, or you are lying to make a point. Neither seems to give credibility to your opinion.

Guest

If you've already shelled out the cash, then this is probably too late. First off, they did not produce Brenda Song, or half the talent they claim to have produced.

Several of the actors have denied these claims.

If you are not signed with them and want to get into acting, get proper training that is known to be credible (I'm not sure where you live so I can't provide examples) and when you have enough training get an agent, either through the referral of a coach or submission. Either way, best of luck.

Guest

Saying you never hear from them again is just plain crazy. Both of my daughters go there.

One on scholarship. Several people keep calling it an agency, this is plain wrong. They are a school. They never have promised us a thing.

Everything is up to the kid. They will get out of it what they put into it.

Find a local agent for jobs. Getting real sick of people that know nothing of the entertainment business bashing it.

Guest

Tell your friend not to waste her time. This is a rip off operation.

Guest

JRP has more success stories than Barbizon ever will. People might think it is expensive, but they have great connections, and Barbizon has zero.

niyla Olo

JRP is known for making promises they cannot keep. They have thousands of complaints on them they are a 100% scam.

Once you give them your money you will probably never hear from them again.

Do not waste your money on them, you do better going to barbizon atleast you actually learn something. :x
