Service gone wrong

Dealer complaint Me To gmprioritycare@***.com Today at 10:55 AM Dear General Motors, I had an experience with one of your dealerships that I think you should be aware of John Paul’s Buick GMC 3615 S 108th St Greenfield, WI 53228 On Saturday 04/19/14 I took my 2004 Pontiac Grand Am in for service. Upon pickup on Tuesday 04/22/14 not everything was working as I had expected. There were issues with the service but those were being worked out. The main reason for this email is the way I was treated by the Service Director – Jarrod. I never asked for a Service Manager or Director. Jarrod walked up to me unsolicited. After a few minutes of discussion, I got the distinct impression Jarrod had no concern for my safety at all. During the service process it seems somehow the wiper assembly inside the steering column was putting off electrical smoke. Like I said earlier, the service issues were being worked out though. When I asked Jarrod if a safety check was done he answered “Why would we? You did not tell us to do that.” I would like to think that any time an electrical part is removed from a vehicle and re-installed that it would be checked out. My car could have had an electrical fire without me knowing it if I had not seen the smoke myself. Jarrod next suggested that the dealer just disconnect the assembly. That would have left my vehicle without turn signals. Again, unsafe to drive and illegal to drive in Wisconsin. To me these safety concerns of mine were of zero importance to Jarrod. He just continued to tell me how unreasonable I was being and referenced me bringing in “a bucket of bolts” When I challenged that he called my vehicle a “bucket of bolts” and informed him that I purchased the vehicle from John Paul’s he tried to spin his statement to meaning literally I brought in a bucket of broken pieces. Only 3 parts in total were replaced and all were still on the vehicle. Jarrod then walked away from me and headed into an office. As he headed into the office, I overheard him say to someone in the office “Do you want to kick this guy out or should I?” I want you to be aware of the type of treatment I was given at this dealership. 1) I was made to feel that my safety was of zero concern and they were willing to disconnect parts and let me drive away. 2) I was made to feel that expressing my concerns over the safety could have had me ejected from the premises. 3) I was made to feel that I had done something wrong for wanting to be safe and all I was told was how unreasonable I was being. I was contacted by the owner Kathy who apologized for my experience. I got the impression that Kathy was truly apologetic for my experience but did not think the Service Director did anything wrong. I thanked her for her call back but informed her the relationship between me and her business was over. I do hope to continue to purchase GMC vehicles in the future and do hope to find a GMC dealership that has a higher concern for safety and customer’s feelings. Sincerely yours, Tim Potter
