Did not honor warranty

Joe Kassab Jewelers at Clackamas Town Center, Happy Valley, Oregon, does not honor their work that is "guaranteed for life". 15 to 20 years ago, my daughter gave me a pair of Diamond stud earrings for Christmas.

Not real expensive, but very sentimental. I took them to Joe Kassab Jewelers and had a custom stud and locking back put on them to insure that they would not get lost. The salesman said they were "Guaranteed for life". I did not ask, who's life?

I have found that the locking back has a spring inside that wears out. Joe Kassab Jewelers has previously replaced these backs when they have malfunctioned until today. Today, my cousin took them into Joe Kassab's for me and was informed that the new backs would cost me $50 to replace. I was called by cell phone and the sales person said they could not replace the backs because, "the price of gold has gone up" and "we only guarantee the post".

Give me a break, how *** do you think your customers are? You guaranteed a product that has a flaw before the flaw was exposed, and now they don't want to honor their warranty.

My backs had been replaced before with no questions asked. I will not be back and will warn everyone I know about your dishonest practice.

This person obiviously knows absolutely nothing about jewelry or jewelry repair. If my Mercedes breaks down they don't repair it for FREE! Wake Up!!

I see some of you just don't get it. It is about standing behind your word no matter how much time has elapsed. It is about standing behind the products that you sell and guarantee.

I take full responsibility for my jewelry no matter how old. It is about their custom add on, that they guaranteed, the custom little post with the custom little back. It is that custom little back that malfunctions.

Say you had a new hitch (that was guaranteed for life) installed on your SUV to haul your expensive new boat down to the river. Now you find out there was a flaw in one of the smaller components of the hitch, wouldn't you expect the installer to replace the smaller component or the entire hitch before disaster destroys your new boat? So ok, they replace the small component several times and then decide they are not going to replace it any more. Now it is going to cost you the entire cost of the hitch to replace the small component. It has nothing to do with the age of your SUV or the age of your boat. It is about them guaranteeing a product that was later found to have a defect.

It's kind of like furniture. About 20 years ago I purchased a chair that had a lifetime warranty and about 10 years ago I had to have a repair made to it, which the store came and picked it up and repaired it and brought it back.

At the time he commented on how much wear the chair was showing. About 5 years later I needed the same repair done and when I spoke to the repair man he said due to the amount of wear on the chair the previous time they could no longer repair it under warranty.

I could understand that because the chair did show a quite a bit of wear.

I'm sure if you know what to look for on your earrings they would show some wear too. I can also understand that because of the way the price of gold has increased that they can't repair the earrings free, as old as they are.
