Poor Owner Program Experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I entered my catamaran yacht into a program with iYachtClub, run by Derek Huntsinger, but experienced questionable business practices.

I am also sharing from the yacht ownership perspective having put up my catamaran into the iYachtClub yacht management program.

When deciding, Derek forecasted profitable returns, and sent example of similar boats with cashflow, but after using my yacht for six months the reality became losing thousands of dollars.

Now, I am the 5th person I know of that has remarked on Derek Huntsingers questionable business practices. My advice is to be very careful, and probably like one person told me who did business with Derek Huntsinger years ago, RUN.

Agreed. We had a terrible experience as owners in their charter management program.

We left after Derek screwed us over repeatedly. We too were very disappointed.

Owner’s Perspective

Original review updated Dec 08, 2022

Im the owner of a yacht bought from Derek Hunsinger 2021 and placed in his IyachtClub care and fleet management.

We didnt want a bareboat situation because we wanted her (our boat) to be taken care of.

We opted for a fully crewed experience with hopes that it would be taken care of, as we were informed the boat would be better taken care of with a managed crew.

Nobody twisted our arm to put it with Derek Hunsinger. It was our own decision and below are just a few situations that came about while under their management.

Kinda quickly we saw red flags on wrong charges, misc fees, maintenance, crew, but gave Derek Hunsinger the benefit of fixing them, however even with statements of him somewhat saying that he will make this right we were let down again and again.

We incurred charge after charge of over 20k in warranty issues due to Derek Hunsinger charging us for warranty on a brand new boat.

Yet, the factory should of been charged. We are still waiting on that situation to be resolved.

We own a company and how we handle warranty is simply, we dont charge the customer. If its warranty then we will put in the claim and handle the cost ourselves so that we can then be reimbursed by the factory. Thats how warranty should of been handled.

You know it was close to the third month of ownership when we found out Derek Hunsinger with IyachtClub didnt put in claims to the factory.

Kinda felt like an open wallet to be a part of IyachtClub.

That was the feeling.

That was our feeling. Perhaps youd do better.

We let Derek Hunsinger go and have placed her with a beautiful new management company. Its a night and day difference and we are grateful to of found the new management company.

Crew took pictures of our boat on charter yet she wasnt on the books for charter. Had I not seen the Facebook posts of her sailing and Chef Simon photographing food then I wouldnt of known she went out on charter.

I texted Simon and his response was to the tune of I thought you knew or something in relation to that. Funny how everyone kept us in the dark and lack of communication sure didnt help.

Over thirty broken glasses on two charters, new items being purchased without our knowledge and those items quickly disappeared without our knowledge.

Our items traded with other boats. We wouldnt of minded except they disappeared.

To date Derek Hunsinger has not come through on statements.

This is an opinion from a yacht owners perspective who bought a boat from Derek Hunsinger and placed it in his management crewed fleet.

You may have a better chance but we did not.

Feel free to reach out to us direct if youre in the market for news on a yacht manager, yacht and crew help, guests or simply what toys to buy to keep everyone happy.

We are an open book because we want to help future yacht owners. You can even take a look at the accounts to see how it was managed.--

I too have experienced questionable business practices with iYachtClub, run by Derek Huntsinger. I am also from the yacht ownership perspective having put up my catamaran in good faith into the iYachtClub “yacht management” program.

Derek forecasted profitable returns, and sent example of similar boats, but after using my yacht for six months the reality was losing thousands of dlollars.

Now, I am the 4th person I know of that has remarked on Derek Huntsinger’s questionable business practices. Be careful and maybe like one person told me who did business with Derek Huntsinger years ago, RUN.

DO NOT DO BUSINESS OR CHARTER WITH THEM

iYachtClub - DO NOT DO BUSINESS OR CHARTER WITH THEM

After promises of our vessel making tons of money in their care we signed a contract with them only to spend an entire year of loosing money, under their care there was a fire on our boat, they owed us a bunch of money when we finally cut the cord and they never paid it. Besides for that the experience people received as customers was sub par.

They don't manage their business well at all and under deliver in every way. Whatever you are thinking about using them for look elsewhere. Derek Hunsinger and Collin Steyn are snakes.

Stay away from iyachtclub and Charterhouse at all costs. There are plenty of other operators in the virgin islands.

I unfortunately experienced the same and hope the word gets out to save others money, but also their dignity.
