stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I got my puppy and was very happy with his appearence. But he has seizurs and a problem with his liver.

This was not apparente at first but the aggression was. You cannot brush this dog because he goes crazy- someone hurt him with a brush because he will not let any near him.

He was guarenteed to be 3lbs and is now over 4. Very upset!!!!!

Itsy Puppy sold me a sick puppy which died 4 days later

Itsy Puppy sold me a sick puppy which died 4 days later

My girlfriend and I wanted a micro Pomeranian, so after looking online at various breeders I contacted Itsy Puppy in late October. I somehow felt comfortable about them being in California (as I am), and largely their reviews were good (though there were a couple problematic ones, I gave them the benefit of the doubt). Rachel was kind and communicative as we chose our puppy, and paid half the $5,500 as a deposit. We made arrangements for her to deliver the puppy to my home in Beverly Hills shortly before Thanksgiving. On November 22 (a Saturday), Rachel delivered the puppy which my girlfriend named “Pebbles.” She was adorable. I paid the balance remaining to Rachel. Interestingly, Rachel was not able to give me any veterinary records, just basically told me that she had gotten her shots and “passed.” She had also told me (by email) that Pebbles weighed 1.67 pounds just 5 days earlier, on the 17th.

We took care of Pebbles exactly as instructed, feeding her the recommended Royal Canin X-Small dog food, etc. We had made an appointment with the vet in advance for that Monday, the 24th. Unfortunately, Pebbles wasn’t pooping and her abdomen was fairly distended all weekend, so we couldn’t bring a stool specimen to the vet. Pebbles weighed in at 2.2 pounds that day, and her stomach was markedly distended.

The next day we dropped off a fecal sample, and she tested positive for two gastrointestinal infections, Giardia and Coccidia. These are infections puppies can get from ingesting *** from other dogs. We live in a clean home without any other pets, and it is clear she came to us already infected. The next day, Wednesday, we took her to the vet to get two medications for these infections. That afternoon, while feeding her, my girlfriend noticed Pebbles start to foam at the mouth and stop breathing. She yelled for my help. I’m a surgeon (not a vet). I swept Pebble’s mouth to clear it of any food, tried a version of the Heimlich maneuver, then began CPR as we rushed her to the car. I drove to the hospital as my girlfriend continued CPR but Pebbles died in her arms, and Pebbles was pronounced dead at Beverly Hills Small Animal Hospital about 10 minutes later. It was heartbreaking for us to have her for only four days and for this to happen. We’re not sure if she choked, or had a seizure. But she died.

We contacted Rachel and told her what happened… and that Pebbles was not fully healthy when delivered, she had an obvious gastrointestinal problem, was “backed up,” (to the point of weighing over half a pound more within days), and had two documented GI infections that pre-existed prior to her delivery. Our contract with Rachel stated that the puppy to the best of her knowledge and effort is in good health and free of communicable diseases at the time of sale. I can only imagine that if in fact Pebbles saw a vet prior to delivery to us, they did not test for these infections. I can also imagine that many of the puppies that Rachel is selling may well be infected with these same organisms.

We asked for Rachel to replace the puppy, and she offered to replace her for $1,500 (for stud breeder fees). She acknowledged this was a lot of money in light of us having already paid $5,500 (plus lots of vet and animal hospital bills), and she said she would see what she could do to reduce it. After weeks of hearing nothing, I emailed her and she responded that she could replace Pebbles for $3,000. I told her this was not acceptable, and at this point I wanted my money back. Rachel then had the incredible nerve to imply that Pebble’s death was somehow related to my care of her… and that she was fed in a way not recommended (completely untrue).

The day after we got her (the morning of our visit to the vet), Pebbles had jumped into my pool under the watchful eye of my surprised girlfriend, who immediately scooped her out within seconds. Pebbles never submerged and was fine from that incident. Rachel had the nerve in her final email to also imply that Pebbles was “dropped into the pool.” She has NO IDEA how much Pebbles was loved and how well taken care of she was. Rachel’s final comment was the insulting “we [are] no longer comfortable with placing one of our loved ones under your care after much thought and consideration of what has happened to Pebbles.”

Maybe Rachel should give some thought and consideration into her breeding practices and the cleanliness of her kennels. Sanitation is obviously not a high priority for her. Sounds to me like Itsy Puppy is a breeding ground for protozoa and parasites, and Rachel runs a true puppy mill. I am truly suspect of what if any veterinary testing is done on their puppies. No wonder when I first called back in October and wanted to visit to see what puppies were available I was told “sorry, we don’t allow on-site visits.”

I can only recommend that anyone looking for puppies avoid Itsy Puppy like the plague. When money is involved, Rachel’s true colors came out loud and clear. She could care less about her dogs, their health, and what happens to them. She has incredibly little compassion, and once again my faith in people “doing the right thing” withers.

“sorry, we don’t allow on-site visits.”

Should have been a major red flag.

Take her to court to recover her initial cost + vet bills. Have her investigated and shut down.

Money well wasted. Rescue a dog from the pound.

Micro breeds from inhumane breeding farms are an abomination.

Many don't survive infancy and the businesses are unregulated so elite shoppers are uninformed when they purchase accessories they can feed but know nothing about. What a waste of life and money.

Itsy Puppy is a middleman puppy operation that buys puppies from all over the US and sells them for a profit. When so many puppies are housed together often puppies infect one another.

You are better off taking your chances from Craigslist for a lower price.

Operations like this should be fined with the owners jailed.

I know that Lambriar Kennels is a middleman operation that buys puppies from families and then sells them to pet stores. Probably...this is where this itsy puppy operation gets its puppies.

These prices are outrageous.

I recently rescued a puppy and he is the most adorable 9 month old ever. Do not buy from operations like this.

As a breeder family of teacup puppies, we’ve done business with many different kinds of people, and we thank you for your review of us. We enjoyed the process of helping you choose a puppy of ours and we believe that you and your girlfriend’s emotions (whom we see also wrote a review of us below yours) went from being happy to unhappy because we decided against giving you a replacement dog for Pebbles after the sad and unfortunate circumstances that happened after we delivered the puppy in person.

However, as there are two sides to every coin, we’ve decided that after much thought to write a public comment as to what happened in our perspective and why we came to the decision not to replace her although we do believe you both to have given Pebbles a lot of love during the four days you had her.

We plead you to read with an open heart and also understand where we are coming from.

First of all, your review explains that you fed Pebbles as instructed from our preparation email. However, when we looked at the medical reports after the choking incident happened, your vet had written under her current diet that you and your girlfriend had been feeding Pebbles a diet consisting of chicken, rice, and olive oil as well as our recommended dry kibbles. Chicken in sizes unknown to us certainly are not recommended to be fed to a younger puppy that has not had her teeth fully developed at 13 weeks old. Additionally, the chicken diet you wanted to feed Pebbles is usually to entice a pet that has a lack of appetite and to our knowledge through your emails, Pebbles had no problem eating until the fourth day after delivery.

Just to be clear, we’re not assuming anything, but we took that note from your vet into consideration which may have contributed to her choking incident if that was her diet. Of course, this is difficult to know whether or not you had fed Pebbles the chicken or not either, as you explain in your review that you had fed her the Royal Canin that we had recommended. However, no autopsy was performed after her death at the emergency clinic and you decided instead of finding out if dry kibbles or chicken was the cause of her choking, to cremate her immediately after she was pronounced dead. Because of this, you nor we know what she had actually choked on.

Secondly, according to animal hospitals across the nation, the two GI infections you mention are actually quite common in puppies -- up to 50-75% of puppies will have had either one or both in their puppyhood -- and are easily treatable within a few days of antibiotics. You mentioned that Pebbles had not defecated until the second day of becoming your baby in the medical reports but we would like to explain that this is most likely because she had not felt adjusted or comfortable in her new home yet. Puppies need time to become familiar with their new owners and surroundings, especially after they have left us after being with us for 3 months. This can be visibly seen with her lack of defecation, but we’re glad to have seen the report that she defecated the next morning for the fecal exam.

We understand your concern for how sanitary our facility is after the giardia and coccidia had been found, but these are parasites that happen from ingesting other puppies’ ***, either on accident or purpose and are also triggered by stress levels from adjusting in a new environment.

This could also happen from socializing your puppy with other puppies during puppy classes (and everyone would want their puppy socialized at some point) because puppies tend to lick themselves as a cleaning mechanism and even get their germs on their fur. Because this is so easy to transfer between puppies, it is also easier to transfer between people who may handle or touch them. This is especially the reason why we don’t allow outside visitors -- we’re just asking for trouble if we were to allow everyone who wants to see our puppies everyday and we don’t want to operate like a pet shop to harbor unhealthy puppies. This is our goal and purpose at Itsy Puppy and we know that deep inside, you know and agree with us because we know you both acknowledged in your emails that it was good breeding practices!

A medical report that describes an unhealthy puppy from an unsanitary kennel would have typically stated a puppy’s general appearance to be dirty, especially with watery eyes and/or ears with earmites, itchy skin, abnormal lymph nodes, cardiovascular problems, or teeth full of tartar or gingivitis. However, Pebbles was a beautiful, floppy, and quality puppy as described by your vets.

Thirdly, again we are just noting something simply from the medical report, but when it mentions that Pebbles fell into the pool, we really didn’t know what to think except to deduce that there was not much supervision for a puppy to somehow make it outside and fall into the backyard pool with no pool cover or gate. Even though you mentioned in your email that you scooped her out of the pool "after a minute", a minute in the pool for a puppy is a long time and we could only conclude unless she fell into it on her back and floated, that she may have aspirated chlorinated or saltwater (whichever your pool water consists of and neither of which is good) that may have contributed to her stress levels. Rather, your emergency clinic vet and staff at Beverly Hills Small Animal Hospital found it bizarre and shocking and they had relayed this information to us.

All of this information that you sent us was discussed with consultations from vets before we came to the conclusion that we were not obligated or responsible to replace Pebbles. Not to take away anything that you’ve mentioned when it comes to how much love you gave Pebbles, but we truly wanted to consider your replacement request as you both are wonderful people in your efforts to save Pebbles from the horrible accident. Please understand that each puppy we breed are like our children as well.

Please put yourselves in our shoes for a moment and give us some credit that we could not feel 100% comfortable giving another one of our babies after the given evidence. However, if our decision did not make sense with you, we would have really appreciated some more communication and patience from you to make something work out once we felt comfortable again.

Lesson be learned - DON'T DEAL WITH *** BREEDERS! They will charge you out the *** and never help you again.

They think they are "God." They demand that the buyer do what THEY say because they are know-it-all. Which is completely untrue. They are just lazy *** who don't know how to care for dogs and are just in it for the $, so they gather up a male and a female dog and have them breed and then they come up with outrageous prices to charge. Shelters are the way to go!

Already neutered or spayed pets for $50 adoption fees. All paperwork included.

Mostly healthy with maybe a slight case of URI here or there.

True... however if you want a specialty dog like a micro-Pomeranian you simply can't find one at a shelter, unfortunately... otherwise I would absolutely have gone that route.

Hook, line, and sinker!

I cannot utter enough warning to spare you the disappointment of buying a puppy from these people.

They are "really" friendly, and have the unique ability to make you feel like you are the "most special" buyer they've ever worked with. I even spoke with another perspective buyer shortly after I received my puppy ( at their request ) and praised them. My apologies to that buyer!!!

Then, I realized there were no papers. When I called to ask when they would arrive I was told "they don't have papers for dogs under 3 lbs"! That was obviously a lie, as I have had many dogs under 3 lbs. One was just barely 2 lbs. they all had papers. The dew claws were not removed, either.

My dog weighs almost 5 lbs. I was told she was 8 weeks old, and later found out she was 7 weeks old ( that makes a calculable adult weight difference). I read one review which said her dog probably got so large because it was a poodle. Not so, mine's a Maltese. Please read all reviews before you commit to buy from this company. I believe they count on the fact that you will love your dog 'no matter what'. Of course they are right. But, you still don't get what you pay for! I figure I paid 3 times what I should have. Sound like a good deal to you?

Itsy Puppy - Please read

I got an adorable poodle from itsypuppy. She couldn't possibly bring any more joy into my family's daily life.

super smart, she pees on the pads and rings a bell to go outside and ***. She is so playful and cuddly. Although, she was anticipated to be 2.5 pounds. when she got to 3 pounds, we were like, okay, its a dog, i mean you can't help how it will grow.

she got to 4 pounds and we were a little upset. A few months later she was 5.5 pounds. Sure we were upset, we wanted a small dog. Now, she is a 6 pound dog.

If you are looking for a very small dog, don't go with the poodle, they get big!

go with a maltese i would say. Our dog is so happy and we love her to pieces!

that is rude, as we are not idiots. She is a dog, she goes on daily walks and runs outside in our extensive backyard, playing in the snow and enjoying the pool during the summer.

Whenever she wants to go outside, she will tell us by ringing a bell.

She lives a better life than any dogs you ever have will; in a large home with a surplus of toys, collars, and beds. Therefore, we are not idiots, just educated dog owners that DO NOT need your criticism.

Take your dog outside to *** and let it be a *** dog instead of a *** accessory.

Idiots.

Your puppy is adorable. We got o out micro teacup poodle from itsy April 2015.

I wanted a teacup, I flew all the way to California from Illinois, paid $3500 for her. She was suppose to be under 3 lbs and a year later , she is very fit and thin but weighs 6.7lbs.

I love her to death, but she wasn't what I paid for.

That being said , their is no guarantee on even how big kids will get. Advice: it's not worth the money thinking you MAY get a Teacup , I could of paid $150 for a toy poodle locally.

Itsy Puppy made us SO HAPPY! - Image 2

Itsy Puppy has the best puppies! We are writing this review so that many more families can become happy as we are.

We decided to reserve Jojo after seeing how Itsy Puppy made our friends' family so happy with their teacup pomeranian puppy. Everything Itsy told us was confirmed with a contract, and the reservation for the flight was made promptly. We got Jojo November 4, 2014 safe and sound via United's Pet Program.

Our baby has become such a joy in our lives and has taught us more than we could ever know as tiny teacup puppy owners. Thank you so much and we plan on getting another one soon!

Millions of dogs are killed every year because of this site and people who use them. Buying an animal this way perpetuates puppy mills, neglect and abuse.

Do you research. You cannot say 'I love animals and then buy a puppy over the internet'. Educate yourselves!!!! Companies like this are one of the reasons we have an overpopulation of homeless, stray, abused and neglected dogs.

Anyone with half a brain knows this.......if you use this site, you are clearly not smart enough to own a dog.

Get a pet rock, because that is about all you are capable of taking care of. Make me sick

Review in Pet Stores category from Encinitas, California

my experience with rachel and itsy puppy was 100% positive. i was reluctant about buying over the internet and she answered every question (i am very picky about my dogs) and made sure i was comfortable with my decision.

my new puppy is perfect and smart. she came to me peepad trained and understanding "sit." when you read bad reviews about any teacup breeder please remember that inexperienced teacup owners may not understand some of the challenges that await them. if you want an obedient well trained teacup it takes waaaay more effort than a larger breed dog.

and these dogs have to be constantly monitored. they think they are big and tough and try things that can really hurt them.

Amazing Company, Rachel is a sweetheart

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I purchased a mini Pomeranian from Itsy Puppy and I was extremely lucky to have not only found this company but also the lady behind it all, Rachel. She is a complete sweetheart and helped me so very thoroughly from the beginning of the purchase to the end.

She guided me the utmost professional and friendly manner up until I received my gorgeous little puppy. Everything that Rachel promised in regards to my little pom was 100% correct and the pictures that were sent to me are the exact copy of what the dog looks like. There is nothing hidden, you see what you get. The puppy is healthy, happy, smart, outgoing and extremely playful.

She is an absolute dream. I cannot say enough good things about Rachel and ItsyPuppy. It is an amazing company that is completely trustworthy. I did my research prior to purchasing my tiny baby and did not feel comfortable with some of her so called "competitors".

I highly, highly recommend ItsyPuppy if you are looking for a miniature puppy from all sorts of breeds. You will not be disappointed.

Why is it that the good reviews of this Rachel person all sound like they were written by the same person??? And what company are they talking about???

Rachel was NOT perfect, or she would have told you that there is no such thing as a micro Pom (or any other breed) instead of lying about the quality of these puppies and educating prospective buyers about the breed.

My bet is that there are several "Rachels" working for the same puppy mill, cranking these little genetic nightmares as quickly as they can sell them to some *** *** enough to pay a small fortune just to be able to say that they own one of these "rare" dogs.

Shame on everyone involved, and God help the real victims here, the puppies and their sires and dams.

Guest

You should count yourself as being lucky!!!! I'm shocked that someone would even write this about Rachel because what she told me were lies what she promised me was made up and what was delivered to me was a very sick little Maltese that had no social skills just stood in a corner shaking all the time didn't want to eat, play, run around, lick you or be held.

Rachel didn't want to hear it she told me I needed to teach my puppy all the above. How insane is that. My puppy died at the age of 10 months old and Rachel could have cared less. When I called her to tell her the puppy passed away she put a southern accent on her voice and claimed Rachel no longer owned the business that she sold it and moved to another state and opened a company there and how sorry she was but didn't know the situation between Rachel me and my puppy porsha and she would have to call Rachel and talk to her as it was Rachel on the phone.

I could never forget her voice is talked to her thousands of times have over 6000 text messages to and from. She knew my puppy was sick from day 1 and didn't care. She pretends to be your friend tells you she wants to match you up with the right puppy lol she knew I am a good person and she took advantage of me. My porsha died at 10 months old and she didn't care.

I had to give critical care to porsha the short time on this earth. This is nothing but a huge puppy mill selling sick dogs that come from over seas. Stay far away do your research she needs to be shut down and in time will be.

I believe in karma and if it's the last thing I do on this earth is I'm going to get justice for porsha that's the least she deserves I don't know how people like this can sleep at night and look in the mirror. STAY FAR AWAY

Guest

This is an absolute lie... Rachel is heartless.

We got a puppy from her and it died because it was shipped to us sick, it had a fungus and a very bad cold. We could not revive the puppy after numerous vet visits and bills.

Itsy Puppy didn't give a ***..

Save yourself some heartache and don't purchase from Rachel.

Also don't go through paypal because they say your purchase is guaranteed and it is not.

Do your own research on the millions of homeless, stray, neglected and abuse because if companies like this. Why are there so many rescue centers for all breeds? Because of companies like this and the people un-educated enough to pay them.

LIAR, SCAMMER, CHEAT

Do not buy a puppy from this scam artist. Our experience with Rachel from Itsy Puppy left me extremely emotionally damaged. We put our deposit down for our puppy of $2500 expecting to give her the rest of the money when we went to go pick up the puppy. As the date got closer to when I could go pick up my new baby I asked her for more recent pictures and a video of the puppy and she refused. It was obvious at that point that she didn't have the puppy that we had put a deposit down for. I also asked for her address to go pick up the puppy and she wouldn't give it to me.

She finally responded with some absurd excuse that she had to (and I quote) "stop the vet technicians from taking the puppy to the vet's office to prepare her. We're going to make the decision not to give a puppy who is seemingly developing a temperament that is anti-social to other pups."

I told her that I have owned puppies before and I was an experienced dog owner. She had no response whatsoever.

Thankfully we made the deposit through Paypal so we got the money back.

Do not buy a puppy from this scam artist. If you want a puppy, please do your research and buy from a local AKC registered breeder. Most of these micro pups come from Korea with many health problems. Even better, go to a local shelter and rescue a puppy. They will thank you and love you for life.

I also purchased Minna from Rachel and she is absolutely amazing! We also had to choose another pup because the one we reserved originally became ill with upper respiratory issues (it was a Yorkie, which they're known for those issues anyway).

However, Rachel kept us updated at least once a day because she was more concerned about giving us a pup that may give us more medical bills down the road and asked if we were open to her other pups. I also met up with her in person and got to see about 3 of her other pups that were pups I saw on her website (!!!) because she was doing deliveries on the same day!! Amazing. She's such a hard worker and I can tell she's really passionate about what she does with a kind philanthropic heart.

Thank you Rachel!!! Keep doing what you're doing!

Hi my husband and I just purchased Viola a beautiful micro tea cup poodle from Rachel. The experience was a great , Rachel was professional hones and very caring of her puppies!

Viola is well socialized and you can tell that they have put a lot of time and effort into the care of their puppies! We would recommend this breeder to anyone who truly wants an elite micro puppy!!!!

Guest

By the way, doesn't it make it kind of unfair to call someone a liar, scammer, or cheat when they give you your money back? The last time I checked that definition, a scammer kept the money...

Guest

It sounds a little ridiculous that you are upset a breeder didn't give you a dog with a bad temperament and also gave you your money back. Sounds like you need a temperament check-up as well. Maybe consider buying a lovebird, or perhaps you might consider rescuing a dog from the shelter if you're so experienced.

Puppy fraud

i paid $3500 for a teacup maltese puppy. unfortunately the pictures provided were when she was 1/2 her age, even the supposed "recent" pics were not recent.

i was shocked to see her when i got her as i was not even sure she was the same dog. also she clearly spent her early life caged which was not disclosed. she was advertised as weepad trained but does not have a clue, to the point of a behavioral problem. she even goes to the weepads to sleep on.

i asked seller 7 days after purchase for even exchange and i would incur any extra charges. she would have nothing to do with it.

shame on her. the 1st picture is what what advertised, the second is her.

Sadly sounds like these puppies are not socialized. Small dogs need attention 24/7.

Breeders need to dedicate their lives to the lives of the puppies. I had a teacup Pomeranian and she died at age 6. The most heartbreaking 6 years of my life watching her suffer continuely.

Till she bled to death due to liver failure. The vet bills and medication was astronomically high.

I found the same photo at http://maltesekingdom.com/available-puppies.html while looking to buy one of their micro teacup maltese puppies. Since they are presumably located in Norfolk Virginia and I have to pay for the puppy by money gram I got suspicious and decided to look for other listings of maltese puppies. The first photo of your puppy is advertised at Maltese Kingdom as a male puppy available for sale.

If you're *** enough to pay 3500 bucks for a dog, you deserve to be ripped off when there are thousands that die in shelters every day.

I've been trying to "rescue" for over a month with nothing but empty promisses and two dogs have gone to other families with no reason why.... it's gets frustrating to try and do the right thing, when I can simply buy one from a breeder.

Guest

Anonymous: I purchased a puppy from Itsy a few years ago the dog is almost 7 pounds. Certainly NOT the micro teacup I was promised.

She is a regular sized dog. We love her dearly but Itsy puppy lied about her age and she clearly had never been out of a cage. Ever. They are not honest and are over priced and I belive they get family members to write good reviews.

Run away they won't even let you pick the dog up on the premises or let you see the parents. Run far and fast.

Guest

You put a *** crown on your dog.

GOD, that tells the world everything they need to know about you.

Imbecile.

Dogs are NOT status symbols, you *** ***.

People who sell micro puppies are soulless swindlers

I don't understand why people buying a dog don't do research

Rule number one

Never buy from a breeder breeding more than two breeds

Even two is pushing it but maybe they do mix like goldendoodle or the breeder is married and the spouse likes another breed

Rule number two Micro pups are low quality runts. They are not recognized by any reputable institution.

Breeding so small is unethical, because of their size their eye can pop out their joint come out. Do you know how you get really small dogs a lot of inbreeding so enjoy the health problems. Rule number three Where are the parents or at least the breeding ***? Where were they raised?

Rule number four Breeders breed because they love their dog breed and want to improve it, not for financial gain. Which means they compete their dogs. If you don't want to do your homework go to a shelter. You can find purebreeds it's just takes some time looking or give local shelters a request saying what breed you want.

Even on Craigslist you find pure Breds from people who got old or whatever reason need to re home their dog. Never never buy micro pups they are overpriced runts!

Guest

I'm very sorry that you had such a bad experience with this "breeder." That having been said, I do feel that you should have done a lot more research on the breed and breeders before making such a purchase.

You would have learned that there is no such thing as a teacup Maltese, and no breeder worth his/her salt would be selling them.

They are just taking the smallest puppies from their litters and breeding them, which usually gives them smaller puppies. Sadly, these puppies also commonly have a LOT of health problems, like heart and eye issues, structural and temperament problems, and short, expensive lives. When dogs are bred for size alone, these genetic problems are ignored, and almost always come back to haunt the new owner.

There are several breeds and mixes that are sold as "teacups," "tinies," "baby dolls," etc.

If you read the AKC Standard for the breed you're interested in, they will tell you what the approximate size and weight of the adult dog should be. NO REPUTABLE BREEDER will try to breed for one or two characteristics of a breed, (size, eye color, coat color, etc) then charge an outrageous price for these inferior puppies. I'm always amazed that someone will spend so much money on a puppy without finding out everything they can about the breed. A good breeder would have wasted no time telling you that there is no such thing as a teacup Maltese, Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Malti-Poo, ChiWeenie, etc, and would probably have been happy to either tell you where to learn more about the breed you're interested in or pointed you to someone who had some nice pet puppies.

I understand that you feel that you did not get what you paid for. But you're looking for something that does not (or should not) exist. Had you done your homework before making such a large purchase, you'd have known that. Now you're complaining because you got cheated by these people.

That's like buying a unicorn ONLINE, and being upset when you get a goat with one horn sawn off.

Research your breed. REALLY research your prospective breeder. You'll be a lot happier with both when you know what you're looking for.

And you won't be helping keep these puppy mills in business by purchasing one of their puppies.

Part of the responsibility here rests on your shoulders; these people would not be able to stay in business without customers looking for a dog that will fit in their pocket or purse, and healthy, sound puppies of that size are very rare. Smaller is rarely better.

Excuse me, the post I was initially referring to was not Angie, but Rdog, although I find Angie's response to be a little over the top as well. You who bought this puppy, you could do the right thing by the poor dogs and cats who do end up on death row, or in puppy mills, or starving to death or being abused, by shelling out to help them, even if you DON'T adopt.

Me, I completely share the opinion of "Duh!" in that it IS, sorry, crazy *** to spend that much on a dog being sold online. You must have money to burn, so help a shelter. If you don't, or won't, then I guess in my book you'd be pretty selfish and self-centered. All of this is over now, but I really hope you didn't dispense with this poor puppy just because she wasn't house trained and didn't look like the picture.

She looks pretty acceptable to me - and if you are truly looking for a push-n-play animal, the at the very least have the sense to stay away from an ONLINE PURCHASE of a living thing. And if you really can't handle any retraining, get a stuffed animal, as they'll never wee on the rug. As it is, you do sort of continue that idea that the rich are ***, venal, and self-centered.

Try making the shoe NOT fit. Help a shelter, even if it ain't about you.

Guest

I saw the same pic. I always check and double check on eveything that sounds to good to be true.

Expecially on maltesekingdom.com has 70% off on all micro maltese this month only...lol... now they want only $650. Sorry that what you got was not what you were promised. My maltese passed away from cancer two years ago.

The maltese you got you can tell he was NOT taken care of at all. His hair is all tangled and his eyes have not been cleared . His coat should be white he's already tan. Poor baby.

They are super sweet dogs. He will be with every $3600 you spent. Love him because I'm sure he's been neglected and mistreated .

I hope they catch these people FAST. good luck with the little guy .....

Guest

I purchased two maltese micro pups and I'm so amazed at how perfect they are. I couldn't deal with anyone better as a breeder.

No one else will try to keep in touch with you even AFTER you get your puppies..NO ONE!! I am so happy that they will talk to me about any sporadic weird frantic question I have.

Thank you so much! I am referring you!

Phyllis Tog

I purchased a puppy and received her June 28th. She was everything Itsy Puppy said she would be...adorable.

Our Maltese had passed away on June 4th and my daughter felt like we should contact Itsy Puppy....our new puppy has already brought us so much happiness. She is absolutely adorable and all the pictures and videos were up to date and truthful.

We do also have a rescue dog and find homes for dogs that are abandoned on our 30 acres, but our little puppy is a perfect fit for our family. Thanks Rachel.

Your $3500 could have gone to help save a multitude of animals from being euthanized at shelters. Your greed, pompous attitude and craving for false recognition is inexcusable. Save a life - adopt a shelter pet.

You have major issues!!! I hope you have a job worthy of saving shelter pets...since you condemn a person who may have spent thousands of dollars on shelter pets.

Good luck with your approach to life and making people see your point of view: POMPOUS ATTITUDE AND CRAVING FOR FALSE RECOGNITION IS INEXCUSABLE. Your words ...maybe you should self reflect.

While I find Angie's comment pretty harsh, because I know there's a HUGE amount of propaganda placed out there by the AKC and good and bad breeders regarding reasons for getting a bred pup. There are reputable breeders - they should, for example, either work with or run a breed rescue program for returned animals, so if you are insistent on a specific breed, you can still adopt an existing animal that needs a home.

Good breeders will be honest about why the animal was returned. Often it's just some appearance flaw.

Before I go any further (and it may be too late, but I have to say this), under all this discussion there's still a puppy who may not be perfect by your standards, but who is entirely blameless in all of this. I do hope that you ensure the puppy's safe return or, preferably, that you keep her.

It's easy to potty train - it just takes about two days of taking the pup to the appropriate spot every hour or so, or any time they seem restive, and praising the *** out of them when they produce. Treats are good too. Punishment does NOT work, they just get more frightened and confused - all you can do when mistakes happen is pick them up, take them to the right spot and see if they can squeeze out a bit more, and praising, praising. It helps, in my opinion, if you have a word or a phrase (or a clicker.

Clicker training is amazing, fun to teach because you learn to think like your dog, really fast, and your dog enjoys the learning process. You can clicker train anything, including cats and your pre-verbal toddler. How tos are all over the Web. Karen Pryor created it working with dolphins, so check her site first.) that the pup associates with peeing or pooping.

Later, it will help you to speed the process up if you're in a hurry for some reason (like, it's raining and you'd rather be inside, it'll remind your pup why they're there.) In training, you use it whenever you take the puppy to the pad, whether they produce or not. Then they get the idea that word=pad=pee, and eventually, word=pee. (Or ***.)

You say she's sleeping on her peepad. That's undoubtedly because she's feeling very insecure and frightened.

Dogs and cats are both extremely perceptive. Because dogs are pack animals they are deeply aware of and influenced by the mood of the alpha, which should be you. The peepad is the only familiar thing. She knows perfectly well that there's something wrong about her - your anger and frustration will be completely clear to her - and because she doesn't know what she's done, she's even more frightened.

Think how traumatic it would be to be taken from your mother at 2 or 3 years (the comparable age for a human) put in a box and placed in something loud and scary, jiggly, possibly cold, and dumped out at the other end in an utterly unfamiliar place among people who clearly don't like you or want you. I'd have behavior problems too! And so what if she's older? She was gonna get that way anyway, and I assume you weren't planning to pitch her in a river when it happened.

Give her a chance, poor thing, and have some empathy. She's not a piece of furniture you can just ship around the country without any impact, she's a frightened baby.

Also, I've had or lived with six dogs so far. The first was a wolfhound/mastiff cross adopted from a family whose dogs had bred. He was, I think, the smartest dog I've ever known, and though he was certainly a giant breed mix, he lived to be 13 because of cross-breed hardiness.

My second dog was a Great Dane that I adopted for free at 2.5 years old. She was sweet, well-mannered, and a wonderful dog, and she lived to be 11. (Most giant breeds die at 6 - 8 years.) She was a bit of a dingbat, though - as was my next dog, another Dane, that I'd obtained from a shelter simply by sending out a general word that I was looking for one and checking back with various shelters. I got him less than a month after I put the word out.

Again, a sweet fellow, beautiful, but no Einstein, and he had a number of picky little health problems, esp. early on. After that I got only crossbreeds, because I wanted that crossbreed hardiness. While my dogs had lived longer, I saw too many purebreds die so young, like the pomeranian mentioned above.

It's just a fact that the AKC has overbred many breeds while seeking certain popular or trendy appearances, often to the complete ruination of the breed's natural intelligence and health. This is why in the 80s and 90s we had so many German Shepherds built like hyenas - sloping backs - with appalling hip dysplasia as a result. That result became widespread, resulting in dogs crippled by age two or three, or living in constant pain. There are many, many other examples.

Crossbreeds, in contrast, are making new gene combos and as a result are far, far hardier. Their intelligence is usually much higher as well. All of my shelter dogs have been complete whiz kids. Of course, I could visit with them and spend a lot of time with them before I adopted, which is an option not available to someone who has either contracted for an unborn pup or has purchased one sight unseen, as above.

The main thing, though, is that we have such an overwhelming number of dogs and cats in this country that starve to death, freeze to death, go feral and pack up - which most dogs will do, although the "feral" aspect often changes rapidly if such dogs are offered human kindness.

Or they are abused, tortured, or neglected to death. It's hard to understand paying $3500 for a puppy after you have seen these starving, neglected dogs, still feebly wagging their tails and trying to lick your hand in the hope that perhaps THIS human will be kind. (Often they're yearling purebreds that the owner deliberately bred with the intention of selling them, but then discovered how expensive and time-consuming it was to care for them and train them to an adoptable age. So they're dumped on the road, or in a barn, or just kept and starved.) It's so hard to see this, and then understand why a person would spend so much money for one puppy.

It's true that such money could feed most shelters' animals for a month, or enable them to build more rooms, and find families for even more animals that are often euthanized simply because the shelters have no room for them. California alone, for instance, euthanizes over 10,000 animals a year. That's an old figure, so it's probably higher now.

I live in a rural area where people rarely think to spay or neuter their pets (if it's a conscious choice not to, it's often done with the idea that the animal WILL be bred, and become a big moneymaker. They hear that they can sell these kinds of pups or kittens for $800 or more (frankly, beyond all other concerns here, I think you were WILDLY overcharged) and because they're so often doing this based on what their cousin Bob told them, they don't bother to research it at all.

As a result, they never see all the ads in the local paper from people trying to sell the same sort of pups for $25. Papers, no papers - doesn't matter. And the pups get dumped. Sometimes in bags in dumpsters, still alive.

So. Though I can understand why people go to breeders - and there are reputable ones, certainly - this is why I grind my teeth when I hear these stories. With a bit more research and patience, you might very well find the exact pup that you wanted at a shelter. Purebreds turn up all the time, and contrary to popular opinion, shelter animals rarely have behavior problems that aren't made perfectly clear by shelter staff, who do, after all, work with and around all of these animals all the time.

And no, you will NOT get papers, even if the animal came in with them. The primary goal of ALL animal protection groups is to stop all unwanted (and irresponsible wanted) breeding, and they don't want to hand off anything that might make that easier. In fact, they will require you to "fix" your adoptee, if it hasn't already been done. (The animal will cost less and you will get a partial refund on the vet bill.) And why would you want to breed an animal, when the same sort of pups are already available at shelters for $100 or less?

You're not exactly going to make a killing in sales. You'll only likely cause some.

This is in response to whoever is, shall we say "uninformed", enough to believe in crossbred hardiness. IT IS A MYTH. If one were to breed some *** Poodle to a *** Cocker Spaniel, do you actually believe the resultant puppies would be better than their parents or a carefully-bred purebred pup?? That is just ***, and it shows how gullible the public really is.

If you want to adopt from a shelter, that's great. It is very true that purebred dogs sometimes end up there. Those that do, though, are dumped there by irresponsible owners who would have dumped a mixed-breed just as quickly. But most of the time, it's like reaching into a grab bag, hoping that you don't end up with a dog that likes to snack on small children, has any or all of a zillion other behavioral problems, or comes from a puppy mill, and has so many health issues that their owners can't afford to keep them any more. OR you could get a sweet, healthy dog that some lazy owner dumped because it outgrew it's puppy cuteness. Good luck with that.

Or you could take your time, learn about the breed you're interested in, find several breeders, and do some comparitive shopping. A good breeder will be more than happy to provide you with copies of the results of genetic tests of the sire and dam of their puppies, let you visit with the dam and the rest of the puppies as much as you like, and educate you as to what you can expect an adult to look and act like. Don't be thrown if the sire is not there; show breeders very often use a dog that can be across the country to sire a litter BECAUSE HE IS THE BEST MATCH FOR THE DAM. They will also show you a pedigree of the puppies they have, which should have MANY champions no farther than 2 generations back, and I would even want at least one parent to be a champion.

The AKC does not overbreed any dogs; the AKC is a registry only. They do not breed dogs at all. And there are no OVERbred dogs; there are BADLY bred dogs.

We have two beautiful, healthy girls here, one is a champion and the other will be by the end of the summer. There are at least six generations of champions behind both girls. That's six generations of dogs that are as close to the AKC Standard as possible, have been genetically tested whenever possible to ensure that they won't pass on any genetic problems, and come from breeders whose sole purpose when it comes to their dogs is to breed the best possible puppies for both show and pet purposes. Like most of these breeders, our puppy buyers have to sign a legally binding contract that

Guarantees the puppy to be free from any genetic problems for their first 4 years of life Requires that all pups not being shown will be spayed or neutered, at which time they will be provided with registration papers listing them as sole owners States that we will take the dog back at any time in his/her life should the owner become unwilling or unable to care properly for the dog. There is a specific clause in the contract that their puppy is NEVER to be dropped off at a shelter. We brought that puppy into the world, and take full responsibility for that puppy. Showing, testing, stud fees, shipping costs (the dam is often flown to the stud, then flown home after the breeding), the costs of raising a healthy litter, all these things are expensive. Most breeders don't even come close to making a profit on a litter. It is absolutely a labor of love. And we don't get half of $3200 for our puppies, including show prospects. So before anyone goes around bashing good breeders and spouting off ignorant things about genetics, cross-breed vigor, etc, I would suggest that they actually spend some time with a fee GOOD breeders and get their facts straight.

It is wonderful to adopt a pet from a shelter but lets face it, shelter dogs do have emotional issues and often genetic issues as well. Many shelter dogs are there because of backyard breeders and are plagued with issues like luxating patellas and hip dysplasia.

Many shelter dogs have been mistreated and have emotional issues and often over come those issues due to caring owners.

Seriously, in all fairness, consumers need to know that when adopting a pet from a shelter or breeder they can have genetic problems. My friends adopted a little pug mix came from a well known shelter and has multiple genetic problems but you deal with them because you love your pet and give them the best life possible.

Guest

Your dog is like this because you probably got a puppy that was from either a backyard breeder or a puppy mill -- all have proven to have *** dogs with loads of problems not unlike you described, plus some potentially fatal medical issues.

Adopt a pet from a shelter next time. Never trust online pet breeders if they do not have the credentials and all their dogs are papered and health-checked. And def do not trust pet stores in malls or any other shopping center.

Guest

All dogs are born with worms. It's our job as owners to continue the care and deworm them with Strongid or Drontal until they are 16 weeks.

It is always possible for a puppy to have worms still left in its *** when you get a puppy that is younger than 16 weeks old.

Also, after reading your review, it really alarms me that you purchased a puppy that was supposed to stay small and you're complaining about it. And why is she eating food off her *** pad?

Don't you have a food bowl for her? You obviously put her food there...I'm so confused by this review.
