AI Highlights
  • - Car totaled March 8; claims started.
  • - First check sent Mar 21; not received by Apr 15.
  • - Multiple checks issued; cancellation made the last one invalid.

On March 8th, my car was totaled in an accident. I started the claims process right away.

I received the first check to sign and forward to the finance company on the 21st. I signed and mailed it on the same day, but by April 15th they hadn't received it, so I requested that Intact issue a new check. They did that and mailed it directly to AutoCapital, but when I didn't hear anything after more than a week, I called back and found that they had issued a third check on April 22 because the last one was invalid since I terminated my policy before it could be cashed. I wasn't told that would cause an issue when I canceled, and I didn't want to pay insurance for a car I don't have anymore.

On May 3rd, there was still no check. I called again, and again they said they would mail another check. I asked that they send it priority or by courier as I've had enough of waiting, but they didn't, as it's now May 10th, and the check hasn't been received. So for 2 months, I've been paying for a car I don't have anymore, and I can't get another one until the loan is paid.

Also, except for the first 2 weeks or so, I couldn't get through to my claims adjuster. The extension I have links to the client center.
