I have Humana Gold Plus Diabetes and Health Advantage coverage. It was effective January 1, 2025.

Every month I have had the coverage, I have had to call customer service because their summary of benefits booklets are so brief you do not know what is covered or not. Their websites for help are no different if you can log in, which I have had login issues with Humana prescription and Humana health benefits. If you call customer service, I have gotten someone in South Africa, Guatemala, Colombia, and El Salvador. Forget about getting someone in the USA.

The one I spoke with in Colombia, his English was so bad I could hardly understand a word he said. I asked to transfer me to a supervisor and I got someone in El Salvador who is not a supervisor. I asked to be transferred to a supervisor and he put me on hold, I assume, because I was on hold for 16 minutes and 38 seconds, so I hung up. They will lie to you on the phone to answer your questions because when I do get an answer and end the conversation, what they told me is hardly ever correct, causing me more time calling and getting nowhere in the end.

While what was explained to me when I purchased the policy sounded very good for my needs, it was maybe a bad decision on my part due to the worst customer service I have ever received from an insurance company. Then you have the time you need for pre-approvals on meds. For example: I am type 2 diabetic and use test strips to check my blood level. A very common thing.

I call in a prescription for test strips, and they want pre-approval from the doctor.

Hey, I have a special health plan for diabetics. They know this is standard for diabetics to check blood sugar levels, and they require pre-approval to cover the cost of test strips.
