Hyundai Motor Finance is profit over people

AI Highlights
  • Loyal Hyundai customer; alleges repossession despite lease extension talks; paperwork not sent.
  • Payments were made; items held at tow yard; access delayed.

I have been a loyal customer to Universal Hyundai for years. I have leased several cars from this dealership.

The employees have always been pleasant and helpful. However, I recently had a terrible experience and will no longer recommend them. On June 24, 2022 at approximately 2:15 a.m. they had my car taken from my residence.

My 3-year lease term expired in mid-March. I spoke to Hyundai representatives in regards to extending my lease. On numerous occasions, I was offered to extend my lease month-to-month, 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months. I agreed to extend my lease by 6 months.

This would mean that my lease would be extended through September. I was told that it wouldnt be extended beyond September and at that time, I would have to either purchase the car or return it. I was told by Kiana that paperwork would be sent via email. It was never sent.

In the meantime, I continued to make my monthly payments and received numerous phone calls, stating that the purpose of the call was to collect a debt, even though I continued to make my monthly payments. I tried unsuccessfully via Hyundai Motor Finance to explain that I paid and have text messages, emails, and receipts proving that I have spoken to representatives in regards to extending my lease. Hyundai even sent me an intent form via email that I completed and returned. I have a receipt showing that I completed the form.

Hyundai stated that my car was repossessed because my form wasnt processed. The definition of repossessed is when the purchaser defaults on a loan. I didnt default on any loan. As fore mentioned, I spoke to numerous representatives expressing my interest in extending my lease and continued to make payments.

When I reached out to Hyundai Motor Finance on 06/24/2022, when my car was taken, I was told that attempts were made to contact me via phone. I reiterated that I have spoken to numerous representatives in regards to the situation. At the beginning of each call, it states that the call may be monitored or recorded for quality assurance, yet each representative stated that they didnt have any data indicating that they have spoken to me. Convenient, right?

But, I do; records dont lie. Aside from saved text messages from a sales agent dating back from 11/04/2021 - 01/03/2022, I received a text message on 06/24/2022 out of the blue from Hyundai, stating that Universal Hyundai uses text messages to communicate with customers. Reply STOP to end msgs. Msg&Data rates may apply.

Msg freq varies. I had mentioned to Hyundai Motor Finance that if they had attempted to reach out via phone and werent able to reach me, why didnt they use another avenue such as snail mail or email? Al Navarro stated that they dont do that. Again, as stated above, I responded to phone calls and did my part.

So, which is it? Too many inconsistencies. I believe that I was taken advantage of because I have been a loyal customer for years and some dealerships are experiencing low car inventory at this time. I have been a consistent and reliable source of income for the company.

Therefore, by taking my car, Id be forced to get a new one. If you, the consumer do your research, the dealerships are generating more income selling used cars due to inventory being low. Another representative, Rhonda stated that the only way that I can get my car back is to purchase the car. I said that I lease cars and have no intentions on purchasing the car.

I also inquired to Al Navarro about a refund due to me just recently making a payment on 06/18/2022; his response? You drove the car, right? If you lease or purchased a vehicle, then you, the customer understand that you pay your monthly car payment for the following month. My question to you is: Am I driving the car now?

If I just made a payment on 06/18/2022, I expect a refund. Here is the icing on the cake: My personal items, including my child(ren)s car seat that is needed for safety reasons is being held hostage. It took me from 10:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

on 06/24/2022 to locate my items. When I finally located them, the employee at the tow truck company told me that I needed to make an appointment to get my items. Wait. I need to make an appointment to get my items.

Then, she told me that I could come up until 4:00 p.m. I said, it takes at least 1 hour from my residence and being that the car seat was still in my car, I would have to go to the store to purchase another one to ensure my childs safety. Then, she said that shed let me come up to 4:30 p.m. I told her that I wasnt going to rush around and risk getting in to an accident over the situation.

My children are priceless. The car on the other handwelllll. It can be replaced. The tow truck company scheduled me to come in on Monday to retrieve my personal belongings.

Now, I am left stranded all weekend as my car sits at the tow truck company. Now, my concern is that my car is out of my sight and anything can happen between 06/24/2022 - 06/27/2022. Today is 06/27/2022 and I just received the following message from the tow truck company in regards to our scheduled appointment today. Hi Im sorry but our office had an emergency this morning that was unexpected.

We need to change your apt from today to tomorrow. Please advise if the same time will work or if a different time is better for Tuesday 6/28/22. Again, another business tactic to generate more income. Al Navarro assured me that I dont have to worry because photos are taken when the car is retrieved.

Photos were taken at 2:15 a.m. when my car was taken. Really? The company captures photos during wee hours?

Id like to see them. Now, my final phone conversation was with Al Navarro on 06/24/2022 via phone stating that Id receive an invoice in the mail. It could take between 30 - 90 days. Make sure that you deduct the $77.00 worth of gasoline that was purchased the day before.

My 10 year old daughter reminded me. On 06/25/2022 at 9:00 a.m., I texted Universal Hyundai to offer one last chance to resolve the matter. It is 11:33 a.m. and I still havent received a response.

Stay tuned for pictures and a follow-up response to this post when I receive my invoice and then you can decide for yourself if youd like to do business with Hyundai.

Update: The car dealerships in our area are still experiencing low inventory. Therefore, like a bad relationship, I had to resort to purchasing another Hyundai. Throughout the years, Ive had no known problems that I was aware of with my cars. There may have been underlying issues that I wasnt aware of due to recalls.

I never received any notifications. Perhaps, they were eloquently disguised as service reminders/incentives. Fast forward to today. My young sons shirt got hooked on the rear door handle and it ripped the outer shell off.

It really makes me wonder how safe the car actually is, if this can happen. The CarPlay system in the car works intermittently. Did I mention that rain water pours in the trunk when I open it?

How disheartening. I am looking forward to when the economy is stable again, so that I can get rid of this car and I can sever my relationship with Hyundai permanently.

Delays in Receiving Title

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
AI Highlights
  • They delayed contacting me for over a month about signing the odometer statement.
  • The title went to my old address due to department miscommunication.

This organization is best described as a clown show full of world-class clowns. They waited over a month after calling me and not connecting with me to call me back about signing an odometer statement.

This is two months after buying out my lease. So after speaking to me over a month after originally calling, they sent me a digital, electronic-signature odometer statement, which I signed. Several days later they called me again asking for the odometer statement, which I had just signed and submitted with an email receipt. I re-signed and resubmitted the odometer statement again.

During this call I requested the title be mailed to my new mailing address. Three days later they mailed it to my old address. I only know this because they sent me another email asking for me to sign an odometer statement. I called them.

The ineffectual clowns on the other end of the line could do nothing but say they were mailing the title to the address they had on file. They acknowledged that I had changed my address. But the customer service department does not communicate with the title department (and apparently their systems are also somehow unconnected) so that's why they sent it to my old address. Upon speaking to a manager, I got the same scripted excuse that they can do nothing about the fact they sent it to my old address after I requested they do not.

Worthless.

This organization is worthless. I should have had my title a month ago.

Loss:
$33400

Preferred solution: Get my title to me ASAP. Not after it is sent back to you.

User's recommendation: Finance through your own bank.

I was past an agreed to extended lease due to pandemic and having COVID for 5 weeks. I was very out of it for several weeks after.

Even though I had been paying lease on time, was caught up, had been a Kia customer for 12 years, they repossessed the car. I was too weak to fight them.
